  1. I've done some math when comparing the diameter (not pound test) of line to the diameter of the braid I put on a reel, so that I could come up with a semi-intelligent guess on how much backing to put on a reel compared to how much braid I wan't on that reel. As far as physics goes, I have that while fishing, too. I usually find a brushy shoreline to hide in and hang over the side of the boat and get rid of it.
  2. That's something I finally realized, this fall. I've tried just about everything the pros say. I've caught very few fish. I use to catch more than the average. I've re-arranged a couple of tackle boxes and switched some line, reels and rods around to match the way I use to catch fish. I think I'll have more fun the next time I get to fish and I will probably have a lot of lures, that the pros said I should have, to put in storage bins.
  3. Uh, no, that's not possible. When I retired I thought I would buy a second rod & reel. Didn't even know I needed it until I got it. Now, I've discovered that I need 16 rigs, along with more tackle boxes than will fit in the boat. But, it's my only hobby and it's fun. But, again no, you can never have more than you need, for something.
  4. I've seen it over and over and over. I think three times, last night.
  5. Don't know if you can find this, up north, but a popular dry rub here is Butt Rub.

  7. Thanks for the thanks and good thoughts.
  8. Jethro baits sells bags of ten or fifty.
  9. Never used my wisdom teeth to catch a fish.
  10. I really don't care. Neither one has a store close enough to me to make the trip worth while. I save a lot of money buying on line versus gas for the trip. But, I do believe that for the customer, competition is a good thing.
  11. Of course, they understand me there.
  12. For $30,000.00 I can buy a new car instead fixing the flat tire on my old one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I've gotten some really cheap plastic lures. I don't remember where they were made (don't know if I ever knew) and they did not work at all. Couldn't tune them to make them run straight. Just junk. I took the hooks off and threw the hooks away and used the lures for key chain fobs.
  14. And get your fish that's caught in some other place where the fish trawlers tear up big chunks of ocean floor to get them and they decimate entire fishing areas. And, while they are at it, kill everything else in the net that they don't want. As per usual, tear up/destroy the environment in some place other than my back yard. I believe it's better to eat fish where you have pulled them out one at a time and release what you don't want so it can be caught, again.
  15. I had DEET on my hands and found out that it destroyed mono line. A buddy and I, fishing evenings in the UP of Michigan, started having our line (mono) break seemingly for no reason at all. Washed our hands and pulled a couple of layers of mono off the spools and had no more problems.
  16. If there is water there are, alligators and water moccasins. Walking around in the swampy brush and weeds, on a shore line, can be dangerous to your health. There are fishing piers at the Rodman dam. You can fish at any of the public landings, just a good idea to stay out of the way of people launching boats.
  17. I think those charts are about like the Farmers Almanac. I read once that all of those weather predictions are simply an average of what the weather has been over a 10 year period of time. No way can the weather, down here in Florida, be accurately predicted even a week ahead of time. How can anyone believe a prediction of a year at a time, and, add into that year the time of editing and publication. I think those fishing charts based on moon phase and tide are somewhat accurate, but, local weather trumps those charts. Just about every calendar published, and available at every big box store; has the moon phase pictured on it. All that being said, I only go fishing when I get the chance. Sometimes the weather and fishing is good and sometimes, like yesterday, it is bad.
  18. A few years ago.......... Your impeller needs replacing. You leave something like that sit, that long, here in Florida and it will dry rot. Also, mud dabbers will put mud nests in any hole they can get into. That whole system may need flushing out by a mechanic.
  19. Hit a floating but submerged log (?) but at an angle so that the keel did not hit the log and protect the prop. Didn't hurt the prop but did slightly bend the shaft. Brand new 25 horse 4 stroke. I have insurance and it covered the repairs. Over $425.00. One incident like that pays for a couple of years or more insurance.
  20. I wouldn't get in it. You need a coal barge for all of that. I'm curious, what do you need five batteries for? And, what size outboard?
  21. I sure like mine enough that if my W-M put them on sale for $20.00, I'd buy them even though I don't need one right now.
  22. Squarebill 8.0. It would be almost as easy to cast and retrieve my anchor and I would catch just as much on it as I do the 8.0.
  23. Huh???????????????
  24. Gun smoke.
