  1. Fillet the fish, off of the skeleton, but leave the skin and scales on. Rub the meat with a little olive oil, sprinkle with mediterranean basil leaves, put just a couple of rings of onion and a very little tomatoe on the fillet. Put it on a grill, on high, and close the lid. Check it once in a while and when the center of the fillet is flakey, (done) take it off. The meat will slide off of the skin and the scales/skin won't stick to the grill. You can spray the grill with Pam, first just to make sure it doesn't stick. Absolutely the best tasting fish I cook and definetly the healthiest. By the way, the onion and tomatoe is just for flavoring of the fish, not really good to eat.
  2. The other day, I hooked two bass, one on each of the two trebles on a Strike King KVD 1.5. now, should we ban more than one treble per crankbait? I think too much is made of this "A" rig by too many people with too much time on their hands and not enough of something productive to do.
  3. Catching a bass on plastic doesn't seem to stop the bite. Catch a mudfish (bowfin) on plastic and I might as well, and usually do, change it out. I have never caught a bass on a plastic that a mudfish hit.
  4. I like the watermelon red creme. Not because of the color, but because when zoom made a batch of them, they got air mixed in and that particular batch has air bubbles in it. They either float or sink very, very slowly. I bought all I could find of them. Haven't had much chance for horny toad fishing, but this is the best.
  5. There's a world of difference between overstock.com and overstockbait.com.
  6. I had some Strike King Red Eye Shad in Sexy Shad color that swelled up and would not work. I sent an e-mail to Strike King about them. I got an immediate response from Mark Copley in TN, telling me to send them to him and he would replace them. I sent 3 each 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce lures. In a week I had 4 of each delivered with a white Strike King hat. Great customer support there.
  7. I like the Strike King KVD Series 1. Only problem is that in one specific area on Rodman Resevoir, the Chain Pickerel love them. They engulf them and take them away. Lost two of them until I learned to not use that lure in that area or use a wire leader.
  8. There's an old recipe I'm surprised no else posted. Marinade a carp fillet in soy sauce and orange juice with some ground cayenne pepper and salt and brown sugar. Get some cedar and make a small board, something like a shingle, and bake that fillet, on the board in the overn at 400 degress for about 40 minutes. Take it out and throw away the fillet and eat the board.
  9. A friend and I went out on a lake, the other day, that people had been catching fish on. My second cast, I had a hit on a buzzbait, but no hookup. That was the best we did all day. We tried buzzbaits, pop-r, spinner baits, weightless worms, carolina rig, bouncing strike king square bill plug off of sunken logs. Tried a hole that Evers caught bass in during the Elite seires tournament here in Florida. Nothing. The weather had been HOT. A cold/high pressure front came through. Made the weather absolutely beautiful to be out on the lake but the catching was horrible. Still, we had a really good boat ride.
  10. I bought a Solene at WM. That was the worst baitcasting reel I've ever had in my hands. I turned the tension knob (not the drag, I know the difference)down as tight as possible, turned the mag to it's max. I could still cast a weightless fluke over 40 feet. Back off any adjustment and it was almost impossible to thumb the spool enough to prevent over runs. I learned how to baitcast in the 50's on the old knuckle busters and would much rather have on of those old reels. I took it back and bought an Abu Garcia. That's a quality reel.
  11. That is the fish catchin' thing I've ever used. I've tossed it over beds of gills and had them knock it out of the water before one grabbed it. Caught everything you all have, except smallmouth (don't have them in this part of the world) plus catfish. Had a day when the bite was bad, the wind was bad, so I was trolling with that little thing. Caught a 12 1/2 pound channel cat. That took about 20 minuts to get in. It bent one hook and knocked one eye off. Straightened the hook and still catch fish on it.
  12. Go to www.barlowstackle.com and get the materials and make you own.
  13. Tournament fishermen, mainly on practice days. My boat is older, smaller, cheaper and therefore I don't amount to much, at the landing. Many of the boys, with the newer, bigger, more expensive, overpowered boats, don't think they have to let me take my place in line either launching or coming out of the water. Often, I've had them jump in front of me with the attitude that they are better or more important. On tournament days, I don't fish where they are fishing. I find another place or time to fish.
  14. It's an A-drag used for working up loose ground. It was probably left lay where somebody quit using it and the woods grew up around it.
  15. http://i819.photobucket.com/albums/zz118/rambler1141/012.jpg This is what the "Floating" Horny Toad did for me, yesterday morning. 7 lbs.
  16. Strike King 1/8 oz. Bitsy Minnow
  17. I was putting in, on a small lake in Michigan, when three out of staters pulled up to put in. They asked about the fishing and I gave them some advice about the crappie fishing. I went out and was casting a small (1/16 oz) jig. I saw that boat load coming toward me. As I cast, the last time, they trolled across where my jig had landed and pulled in a 15-16 inche crappie. They showed it to me and asked if that was the kind I had been telling them about. I just said, "yeah" and left. I vowed then to never tell any stranger anything about the fishing in any lake I put in at. That was 25 years ago and I have never changed my attitude.
  18. I just read the recipe for MOJO. I think I'll just stick to teriyaki, on my gas grill, in Florida.
  19. Maybe a goof up when made and air got mixed in. I'll sure be looking for more of them.
  20. Before you ask, no I didn't catch anymore than one dink, but: I was throwing a Zoom Horny Toad and saw it was floating. Never had that happen before. It's a Watermelon Red Pearl. I discovered it had bubbles in it. All five, in the package, are like that. It floated a 5/0 EWG. I weighed it on my powder scale. Weighed 197.8 grains and the white ones (no bubbles) weighed 214.5 grains. Anybody else have any other color that floats? Should be deadly if I can find where the bass went. We just didn't have any luck, the other day. Bluebird day, high pressure, water temp 80 degrees.
  21. I learned this from a wonderful lady in Church. When you see a checkout clerk that is having a bad, bad day or is not feeling well. While in line, say a prayer for her and then let her know that things will get better, " because I just prayed for you. " Everyone of them has thanked me.
  22. If the fish was all it was about, you can go to the store and buy fish an awful lot cheaper than it costs to catch them. I went out the other day, on a lake I'd never fished on, and caught about a dozen dinks (little dinks) and that's all. I had a GREAT time exploring that lake and watching the birds and listening to the sand hill cranes warbling. Losing lures is just part of it. That's part of the reason I don't buy those $30 and higher priced lures. I like plastic. A bag of them costs less than a good crankbait and catches fish.
  23. 1500 calories. Eat it at a cardiovascular unit.
  24. Sounds crazy, after reading all the replies. No one can even agree on what it should or shouldn't be used for and what you can or can't show on it. I bet there would be some pretty rough criticism on there that would bleed over into the fishing forums. Would you want to really rip someone on the "open" forum and then expect a reasonable reply to your thread on one of the fishing forums? There are plenty of other places to complain about everything and everyone else and swear when you want to.
  25. Too much can kill a stream. There is a river and a smaller stream running into a lake I grew up near. On the smaller stream, a farmer fed his cattle, on the ice, all winter. He knew what he was doing to the river, the wild life people talked to him about it and his attitude was, he didn't give a d--m. He owned the property and could do what he wanted. There was no law specifically saying he couldn't do that so he kept it up. That's a lot of ammonia and nutrients to dump in a small stream. I haven't been back to fish it in years, but that stream turned to brown mud and there were no more small mouth or musky in it. The larger river has turned brown from farm runoff. Mainly fertilizer but also cattle concentrated on the sides of the river. The water (when I was a kid a long time ago) had been crystal clear. The fishing has gone bad along with the water quality. There is some education going on that wil some day do some good. :-[
