  1. They were fishing a tournament out of Ashland, Wi. You can cull in Wisconsin. He went over the line into Minnesota waters.
  2. Caught an 8 lb. channel cat on a Strike King bitsy minnow and 4 lb. test line. Now that is worth going fishing for!
  3. Not me, but I sure feel for Brandon Palaniuk. There's a real possibility that that mistake cost him $100,000.00.
  4. Someone told me that a 3 blade spin bait was the best thing to use. I bought one. That thing catches so much air it seems impossible to cast it. At least I can't get any distance out of it. Best thing I found to do with it is, don't use it.
  5. Both, through the top lip and through the back are good. Depends on what you're doing. Fishing with a little jig and tube, hooking them through the lips is good. I like to troll really slow, that way. Under a bobber hooking them between the top fin and the spine is good. If the fish are hitting good the minnows won't have a chance to die.
  6. I've had a couple of lipless cranks (can't say anything bad about a sponsor) that absolutely would not tune. Bent the eyelet almost straight over and still wouldn't work. Kept the hooks and deep sixed the plug.
  7. Don't know if this was all stupid or just one of the worst days ever. Took a much needed day off to go hunting/fihsing. It was fall and a beautiful day. Loaded canoe, fishing tackle and shotgun and went to a really secluded, hard to get to, small resevoir. Put the canoe in the water, got everything loaded and went start the 1 hp motor. Watched the handle for the pull rope fall into deep water. Decide to put the motor back in the car and paddle. Swung the canoe around and wind caught it and slammed motor into shore, breaking the aluminum motor mount. Moter lays on the bank. I take a deep breath, calming myself and put the motor in the car. Paddle against the wind 'til I wear blisters. Get out to hunt and take 6 steps and stumble over pile of beer cans. To heck with it. Go fishing. Get to a good spot and reach for my rod. Grab the top end, lift rod, break rod. I have a small unltralight and use it and catch a large yellow perch. As I am putting it on the stringer, a family of otter come by. Canoe starts being jerked around and have a hard time keeping it upright. Pull up stringer, perch full of teeth marks. Went to a sandy shore on back side of a rock about 15 feet high. Climb up on the rock and look around. As usual there is no one anywhere around. I think, to heck with it, I will just pee on the whole day. Start to and a gust of wind hits the face of the rock and I get a shower. I decided that was all I could take. Went home. I know this sounds crazy but it is as true as sunrise.

    Buffs

I, too, have had a couple of chunks cut out. I will go to extremes to try and prevent more. I think there's a couple more that are going to need to be cut out. My face feels better after a day on the water, when I wear the buff, than it did with just sunscreen. Buff and gloves and sunscreen are a must for everybody.
  9. If you can, avoid that parking area. There is one on a lake, here, that I don't use anymore. Lost my trailer license plate, there. Some body else told me they don't use that place because of all the vandalism that happens.
  10. If you have wildlife that close to you and that aren't alarmed by your presence, you should feel lucky. They have found a place where they can feel safe and not threatened. Enjoy it and get some good pictures.
  11. Gallon zip locks, too. Sorted by type, i.e., stick worms, craws, curly tails, creatures, etc.
  12. Zoom trick worm, watermelon/red.
  13. There's two Gander mt. each forty miles from me, an Acadamy about 30 miles and a Dicks about 35 miles and a Wal mart 15 miles from me. Wal mart and Dicks are both bad (wal mart being by far the worst). Both Ganders have gotten much better. Acadamy is good but not as good as Gander. It's 120 miles to nearest BPS and I don't even know how far it is to Cableas. I use a Gander Mountain master card and get points to spend at Gander, so they get most of my business.
  14. Yes. I used to fish at night, in Michigan. My fihsing partner and I found our mono to be falling apart. It was good line the day before. The only thing that we knew that affected the line was the deet we sprayed on oursleves. Some had to get on our hands because we used a lot of it. When we touched the line on our reels it was just like the line had rotted. We washed our hands verywell and stripped bad line off of our reels until we couldn't pull it apart with our hands and was very careful how we used the spray the rest of the night. I did that one other time and then remembered not to do it. Sometimes it takes me a while to learn.
  15. As said before, be consistant. Don't change the rules. Make the FIRST yes and no be the ones that count. There should be no reason for more than one. Children are never too young to learn the meaning of the word NO. Another thing, don't make threats that you aren't going to carry out. If you say you will spank, then if it is warranted spank. Same with rewards. Don't promise something you can't deliver. Like telling them if they are good you will take them to Disney. If you hav no intention of taking them them don't promise it (just an example). The reward can be anything even as simple as an ice cream cone. If you said it follow through or promise it. Your own actions teach children more than anything else. If you want them to be good people, you have to be good people. I was a terrible parent and can see what should be done that wasn't done before. And above all else, love the heck out of them.
  16. Where I live we don't get Wi-Fi. We barely get phone service at all. Even Verizon (all of the people that work in the office I deal with are no better than used car dealers) told me that if I have a phone that I like at all (I hate cell phones) don't upgrade because I will get no better service than I now have and why pay for something I can't use. Let the contracte expire and pay for the plan I have month by month. That way, if something better comes along, like a new tower in the area for any company, I can switch when I want to with no early cancellation fee.
  17. I do that, too. I've already had some chunks cut out of me and I now go to, possibly, extremes to prevent more surgeries.
  18. I found them in Bass Pro, Cabelas, Gander Mountain and Academy Sports. Some call them Buffs. Look in online catalogs under fishing headgear. They are good protection from sun. Some will have protection ratings like other clothing and sun screen. When you get too warm, take it off and wet it (oh, put it back on). It will really cool you off, especially if there is a breeze.
  19. Doug Hannon's Big Bass Magic. Too bad he didn't have time to write many more.
  20. Zoom trick worm, watermelon red.
  21. I don't understand CP's problem. If the jig was really as bad as he says, anyone could have seen how bad it was while on the shelf/hangar and still in the package. Why buy one that looks that bad unless all you want is an excuse to sound off about something.
  22. T rig weightless, watermelon red. Toss it up against a log or tree at the shore line and let it set for a little bit and then just barely move it. If nothing hits it, reel in and toss a foot from the first place. I've caught more on this than everything else I own added together.
  23. 1. Yellow perch 2. Crappie 3. Bluegill 4. Northern Pike If you are concerned about the travel time from the water to home, take a half gallon plastic juice (or whatever) container, fill it with water, freeze it and put it in a cooler with your fish. That will last all day long. A lot better than bags of cubes.
