  1. I learned, a long time ago, in Wisconsin, don't dangle body parts in the water. I man landed an 18" northern pike that grabbed his fingers. When it grabbed his fingers, he jerked back (a normal reaction) and flipped the pike into the boat. Tore up his fingers pretty bad. Now that I'm in Florida I definitely don't dangle my hands in the water.
  2. My credit card points let me shop at Gander Mountain for free.
  3. Happy Thanksgiving! Turkey is in the oven full of cornbread giblet stuffing. Made two pumpkin pies, Tuesday. One is gone by now. The cranberries are cooked and the green bean casserole and candied yams will be fixed in a couple of hours. I have the greatest wife. She cleans up all the messes I make in the kitchen.
  4. Good job, that quitting tobacco. I, too, was smoking 3 packs a day. Had been smoking for 25 years. It's been about 30 years since I quit. I finally convinced myself that I really WANTED to quit. I also put it in my mind that I had to make the physical effort of picking up the pack, taking a "cig" out of the package, put it in my mouth, light it, Now just don't do that anymore. Just do not perform that series of movements. The tobacco will not make it to your mouth on its own. I know, sounds silly, but it works
  5. T-rig, weightless, trick worm, logs and overhanging brush at the shore line. You can't beat it.
  6. For me it was both a lure and a location. Not a new lure but one I just started using, a Producto Buzz Tail Shad, fished across the tops of weeds. The location was a shallow, wide cove on the St. John's river. I was told by several people it was to shallow to hold fish. I like that, nobody else fishes it. I have NEVER seen a boat in there. I went in, using that buzz tail and caught 9 bass, the biggest was 4.5 lbs. Now that was fun.
  7. I worked in real estate, for a while, here in Florida. We got into this discussion with quite a few people. There are places where the properties have been surveyed out into the water. On some small lakes the lots are pie shaped and the points of the pie pieces are in the middle of the lake. The property around the entire lake is private. A lot may be 5 acres but 3 of those acres are under water. It happens a lot. The land owner has a right to stop you form walking on that property, both out of and in the water, but they do not own the water. This sounds ridiculous but if you can be dropped in by helicopter, you can fish those bodies of water. The Florida state Fish and Wildlife Service is now setting up new management for large mouth bass fishing. One of the items they are looking at is public access to more bodies of water.
  8. I'm curious about this. I looked up the Livingston Lure and listened to the sound it makes (?). I don't really know what a feeding fish sounds like. The lure costs $11.99. A HydroWave kit costs $389.99. If the sound the lure makes will entice fish to strike, can I take the hooks off, toss it in the water and then fish around it with cheaper lures?
  9. I read reviews but I don't know why. They very rarely affect my buying. Some of the reviews are written so poorly, I don't take much stock in what they say. I get a kick out of the ones that say they haven't even used the product, yet, but it sure looks nice. I am somewhat brand loyal and that usually works good enough for me.
  10. Bandit Footloose series square bill. Runs less than a foot and great for over weeds and through lily pads.
  11. I modified/improved a dozen spinner baits that have the open line tie. I pinched the bend right behind the tie point. Then put on 4 wraps of fine wire, making sure he ends are turned in so they don't catch the line. Then I soldered the wire. Now, they all have a closed loop line tie. Hope I explained it so it could be understood.
  12. There was a woman that kept calling me, on the same subject, even after I had told her to put me on the no call list. One day, I had had all I wanted to hear. I told her, "I think prostitution is a far more honorable profession than telemarketing". She hung up and never called again. I wonder if she changed profession!
  13. I don't see the problem. This whole thread is sort of like, if you don't like the channel on TV, change the channel. If you don't like reading a repeat thread (that was important enough to someone, to post it) don't read it and stop ranting.
  14. I had arthroscopic surgery on both knees, but that was nothing. My wife had both knees replaced. Most important thing is the therapy afterwards. The day after she was released from the hospital, she was walking a little bit more each day. I was a taskmaster (tough love) and she doubled up on the therapy. The doctor couldn't believe how fast she recovered. Oh, by the way, she was 69 years old at the time. We know of one guy that had his replaced and only did a little therapy twice a week when the home visiting therapist showed up to check his progress. He will never bend that knee, again. We know another friend that had a knee replaced and she was walking around the hospital the next day. A lot of recovery depends on attitude. Good luck and hope you get to fishing real soon.
  15. I just saw a good one on another site. Whisper to them, "It's taken care of, but there's blood everywhere".
  16. My wife just came up with the total for our trip to Toho. (She does things like that.) It was $878.00 for the three fish. Sure glad I didn't catch anymore!
  17. Just got back from one of the least productive fishing trips I've ever taken. I thought it would be great to take a couple of days off from the bustle of life and hire a guide to take me fishing on Lake Toho. Sort of a bucket list thing to do. The service I did this through charged $325/6 hr. day, put me up in a Holiday Inn at $100/day for two days. I caught three bass. One 1lb., one 3 lb., and one 6 lb. And I had to buy the shiners at $20/dozen. Took my wife so she could get away for a couple of days, too. Drove 130 miles (one way) and of course had to eat for a couple of days. Comes to close to $700.00 to catch 3 fish. Not going to bash the service or the guide. Wasn't his fault the fish weren't biting. Just a rant. I do better than that, fishing locally. Guess I won't be doing that again. Now, the weather forecast, for the coming week, is rain, rain, rain. Better that I put the Bucket List away and get on with the Honey Do List.
  18. Just checked Comcast in my area and it is not offered.
  19. The same guy always wins!
  20. This makes no sense, at all. And worse, if we shoot first, to protect our selves and possessions, we are the bad guy.
  21. Unfortunately a lot of people consider it an entitlement but no one is entitled to "free". It's someone else's buck they are shopping on. It is just pure greed. I wonder how much of that food was just wasted while someone else who was honest enough to not steal went hungry. I can't even think of the words to describe how sick our nation has gotten.
  22. Because they're the closest: Wal-Mart and Gander Mountain. On line: Producto
  23. Producto Buzz Tail Shad
  24. I like to catch most anything, EXCEPT mudfish, dogfish, or bowfin, whatever you want to call them. They fight great, but, they tear up tackle and are slimey and mean. If I catch one on plastic I have to replace it. I have never caught a bass on plastic that a mudfish has hit.
  25. Well? How has all of this worked, so far? We're all anxious to see the pictures!
