  1. There are more than one, but the wind is always a pain. It is unfortunate but some other fishermen. I don't *** anyone there big fancy boat. I have what I want and enjoy it. But, it seems like there are some of the big bass boat owners that are just arrogant jerks. They go by, closely, with the attitude that theirs is bigger and more expensive so, if your boat can't take the wake theirs makes you shouldn't be on the same water with them. My boat is plenty big enough and capable of handling the wake if I see it coming in time to get the boat turned into the wake. These guys, though, I think are the same ones that are arrogant anywhere you see them, gas station, restaurant, store, on the road, launch ramp or anywhere else you may have to interact with them. I guess I'm just too old school. There used to be mutual respect and consideration regardless of income or social status. Not anymore. The attitude seems to be, I have more than you and therefore you are of no consideration to me. I often think that when we are laying side by side, on cold slabs, now who's the hotshot that is better than anyone else. Just my rant, and I have made the same rant, out LOUD, at the launch ramp, once in a while.
  2. An aluminum stringer full of rotting trout. Aluminum folding lawn chair. A brown pelican.
  3. Amen and amen to that. Retirement ain't for the faint hearted!
  4. Ditto on fighting one too long on light tackle.
  5. A big monkey that evidently followed the river from Silver Springs. One of the things I really enjoy about fishing, locally, is the wild life I see. Birds of all kinds including bald eagles, owls and turkeys. Deer, black bear, otters. I really am intrigued by the alligators. Always see a lot of them. The little ones like to chase a surface lure right up to the boat. It's always a kick to see some manatees, especially when they bump the bottom of the boat. I really like catching fish but I'm easily sidetracked by everything else.
  6. Catch and release?
  7. The first new car I owned was a 1968 Rambler. Had a CB radio in it and needed a handle, (this is the Rambler, KALJ7431 down and on the side). I've used the name every since then.
  8. I know, I just posted, but, I was reading the next thread about when we started fishing. Made me remember when "back reeling" was necessary. Remember the old baitcasters with no drag, no thumb button to disengage the gears so the handle spun with the reel when you cast. There was only reel forward or reel back and if you had a good sized fish on and your hand slipped off of the handle, well, that's when I learned what a "knuckle buster" was. Some kind relative gave me one of those on a 5' steel rod. We had "braid", too. 30 lb test black line.
  9. Back reeling can be a problem when you have the fish at the boat and are trying to land it, either by hand or with a net. You have to take your hand off of the handle, set the anti-reverse, make sure the drag is correct for that last surge the fish makes before it quits. For me, it's easier to adjust the drag as I fight the fish. You'll see some of the pro's stripping line with their free hand instead of back reeling or adjusting the drag, while fighting the fish.
  10. I too, have a pair of Costa's. They are great, but, when fishing in really dirty or stained water they really don't do much better than anything else, for me. My go to and driving glasses are Spiderwire. They are the only glasses in the $20.00 range that don't distort my vision and they are really light and comfortable to wear.
  11. I don't care how expensive it was, originally, or how old it is. If I could not see it working, it would almost have to be a giveaway price for me to buy it. I've only owned cheaper ones and I wouldn't pay more than $5.00 for one of them, used.
  12. 1. Jimmy Houston 2. Bill Dance 3. Roland Martin 4. Denny Brauer
  13. Vienna sausage, peanut butter cheese crackers, peanuts, payday bar, nutrigrain fruit bars, water and coffee. Wow, looks like a lot when I write in down. No wonder I'm not hungry when I get home.
  14. Jimmy Stewart was one of my favorite people. One big reason is because he was a Brigadier General in the Air Force.
  15. Duck Dynasty, As Time Goes By, Gunsmoke, Paladin, Mash, Golden Girls and any encore western with the "Duke"., Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliot, Lee Van Cleef, and then any other horse manure and gunsmoke movie.
  16. Neither you nor any of us can tell the man what to do. He has to live his own life and make his own decisions. If you are that concerned about him, just be there for him if things get worse.
  17. I can't name them all, but that song, I Dreamed I Was In Hillbilly Heaven, names most of the ones I like.
  18. My word! That Judas Priest thing just blew the batteries out of this 72 year olds hearing aids. I am much more into things like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline. But everyone is entitled to his own likes. You guys enjoy it.
  19. If you want really light weights but don't want to use split shot, try air rifle pellets. Drill a hole in the center and use just like a "bullet" (pun intended) weight.
  20. X2 At one time I had an air cooled 1 or 1.5 hp gas motor. It was a pain to use and not really safe. Much preferred the small trolling motor.
  21. I don't think it hurts the fish to stand up and drop the fish in the water. But, did you watch major league fishing? A fisherman was given a two minute penalty for releasing a fish above the gunwale of the boat. I don't know the reasoning behind it, but it was there, along with a penalty for letting the fish touch the carpet.
  22. T-rig, weightless trick worm, shallow at the shoreline.
  23. I had some horny toads that floated. They may have been a mistake or between batches, whatever. They had air bubbles in them. They would float a 5/0 EWG about 1 inch below the surface. Caught my PB (7 lb) on one. They were watermelon red/cream. They were not even all the same shade as if the product wasn't mixed good. I actually stood in Wal-Mart and sorted the ones that had bubbles and put the ones that didn't have back on the rack. I've never seen them again. I wish they would make some, on purpose, like that.
  24. My equipment sounds do not bother me. Air boats I can not stand. Why do the people on the airboats wear earmuffs and then think they can not possibly be bothering other people? Don't even tell me about the people on the boats having to wear ear protection to protect THEIR ears and try to convince me that it is not irritating to the rest of the people around them. And then, of all things, guys with boom boxes on their boats. Man that sound travels across water.
  25. No!!!! I don't need the company.
