  1. Bluesteel. hands down. ok, my other ones are: -"swagger" -"drop kicks" -"biggums" -and duh duh duh... "Shimmys"!!!!!!
  2. wow! There was a lot that was happening in the video. First off, you didn't even weigh that beauty which blows my mind, but then again you are in Florida and are more used to that type of size. Second, your filming buddy did not seem too happy about the big bass. It was funny listening to his comments. Sounds like you smoked em. Great bass! And i agree as someone else said, this beats other fishing shows. Great job
  3. hmm...never tried that, back to the bathtub it is.
  4. now that is great news! Now that gives a MN a fighten chance. Now that i have talked about how easy it is to catch 5-6 pounders there, watch me get skunked...
  5. Very true, not many people realize this. I love megastrike, it just really messes with the skirt flaring out.
  6. Great fish Paul, and enjoyed the write up on it. I must say, you are quite the pond fisherman. You consistently catch the big ones every year from what i am starting to see.
  7. The switch has to be one of the dumbest things continued in bass fishing. In a sport where the smallest details matter and are discussed, why in the world would someone willingly learn this way. I understand if you started this way and don't feel comfortable switching. But for the newcomers, it hurts my brain. It serves no function. Absolutely none. I have played it out many times in my head...why would you intentionally make yourself switch? Preserve energy perhaps? That is the only option in my head and it sounds ridiculous.
  8. that is just flat out beautiful. Well done.
  9. You know, i am usually upset at people calling bass a 6 pounder when it is not close but i think you are on to something! That very well could be over 6. I would place more money on saying it was over 6 than in the 5's. Great fish, and on that little rapala, man. Send me a PM when you want me to come down and help you fish that pond : Great fish, that is enough to get me antsy now...
  10. how big do the bass get in the Louisiana Delta?
  11. Great job. Seems like you are staying consistent with them big bass! Keep it coming
  12. You know, this is educational in that even a guy that acts like an idiot and seems to have never reeled in a fish before has the ability to catch a monster. I love this video because it gives you a good feel of what is happening at the time and the emotions that explode on the boat. I swear this kid tried to lose the bass 10 different ways; nevertheless, it's a big bass and has an incredible scenic feeling to the video. I just keep coming back to this video when i am in withdrawals. Hope you guys like. If you know the guy, i am sorry if you take what i said offensively, however, my opinion is just one subjective jealous anglers opinion
  13. First thing comes to my mind is do you have any northern pike in there? That would cut that line like butter. Second, you are damaging the line against rocks is my guess because i do not believe those bass are breaking you off on clean 25 pound line.
  14. I have used grubs for jigs, so I know they will work at times, but 98% a craw style trailer will be a better option. When bottom bouncing a jig, the appendages on a craw are what entices the bass to bite...The only time I will throw on a grub is when I am swimming a jig. ...i don't think i agree with this statement. Not sure where the 98% number is coming from. Grubs can be a GREAT trailer, but depends on several contextual factors. I know a few fisherman who stick MONSTER bass and use grubs exclusively. Just have to tweek them and know where they function best.
  15. Hey my friend! Things are going well with that girl. She is soooo needy and time consuming. I thought i didn't have enough time prior to her with graduate school and now i am savoring every spare minute. But, i will find a way to fish this spring. I fished very little last summer and only 3 times in the fall. I wish i got out more. How are you doing? I heard you have had quite the bad luck streak and i hope things work out with you. I hope you and that lawyer lay the smack down. We will have to get together to fish sometime this spring.
  16. Hey, for the Minnesota guys, opening season is not until the 28th of May. How about we postpone the ending just one week; say june 7th? Gives the Minnesotans 3 days, and unfortunately i dont head off there till the 30th. Food for thought. Come on! A few days ago you were saying how great it was up there. What's wrong? Can't catch a nickel in 3 days? lol Thanks Tin! But, as i said, i don't get there till the 30th, which is closing time. And after seeing the nastiness that Dwight did on the last competition, a 5 pounder won't win it. I need a fighten chance!

  18. welcome my friend. Yeh, just keep posting and look forward to see how you do. To be honest with you, it will most likely be hard to get people to take you out for a while so don't depend on that too much. Especially the ones that know what they are doing. So, my advice to you is to make a way to learn lakes that you can, see what you have to offer and in the mean time, i hope there are lonely/friendly boaters out there that are kind to you and take you out! And to be even more blatantly honest, most likely no one in northern Virginia will share their honey hole with you. A lot of us (including myself) are still looking for them! But persistence is a virtue, keep at it, and make your own waves. Shimmy Forgot to add, you are close to Beaverdam which is a beautiful lake to fish and are not too far away from the Ashburn ponds which some other guys can tell you more about it. Burke lake is not too far away and is absolutely beautiful. I am sure there are others.
  19. wow, great day. Having a 22 inch fish that goes 4 and a half is quite the scene. During the winter time too. I find that very odd. Any explanations folks? Other than well, he is not eating.
  20. I'm in, Just a quick note though: 1. Whoever fishes Minnesota will probably win this thing hands down! A regular 5 pound bass which is fairly easy to catch would get .61 since the state record is only 8.15. Just food for thought. And i am going to Minnesota to fish the spring this year so just saying, i got my money on this state. Shimmy
  21. great story and great bass! Jealous as always
  22. I hope this thread doesn't go unnoticed. I think this is a great idea. I don't think you should do it by age, might take the fun out of it. Second, it should be by state, it would become more interactive on this site because yeh, some states are going to have to forfeit during the prespawn and not even make it to the spawn! 1. Do it by state, get more interaction on this site and more people involved, plus more fun! 2. have a recording of the day and weight. (not a picture) -i know, many of us catch our bigguns when the camera is not with us or we forgot the scale, but the videos would be authentic and a lot of fun for us to watch. 3. Have a spring champ, summer time champ, and a fall time champ. I know i would love to follow a thread like this or even a section if we made it specifically for the task. I am pretty sure everyone on this site would love to check a thread as such. More interaction, more advertising opportunities for Glenn and all, everyone wins! Sets the hook, and its a big bass. 23. as i was typing it out, River beat me to the punch. He is a great source of knowledge from what i have seen about jigs.
  24. Even though Sam covered it, yeh the casting jig can be used for any situation really, however it is used predominantly as a slow retrieve. Pitching jigs are used for heavy cover because they have a thicker wire hook. However, these jigs can also be used for other situations. The swim jig is supposed to be fished like a spinnerbait like Sam said. However, this jig can also be fished slow but it's main purpose is to worked back to the boat swimming (reeling in at a faster speed). Then you have the finesse jig and they are a thinner wire hook used for an easier hookset. However, with an easier hookset means an easier bent hook. Every jig can be used everywhere IMHO. The finesse jig is probably the least versatile because of the thin hook because once that big fish pulls hard or if there is cover, you will have a difficult time pulling the fish out.
