  1. Kinda suck at getting numbers at the main lakes i fish (small and heavily pressured)! Much different than other lakes i have fished in the past. Been out 4 times and caught 17. Several nice ones in the mix. Nowadays, if i catch over 7 in a day, i was just killing em! Kinda sad. But, the bright side, when i travel and hit a normal lake, i GREATLY appreciate the high number days.
  2. Hey amigo, how many of those donkeys were caught outside your honey hole? Either way you have jedi mastered that spot it seems.
  3. interestingly i get bit all the time once i pull my lure off of a snag. So, i usually position the boat a good distance behind the snag and yank it out and keep fishing it even though the line may be frayed. Last week i stuck a 6+ doing the same thing. Someone mentioned it the other day but it seems that reaction strike just gets them so excited!
  4. Now, i wouldn't put that thing in the 3-4 pound class. I would settle between 5-6 pounds give or take. But it seems you have a great attitude with the realization of needing a scale. Keep em coming. Look at RW's for reference of a 7 pounder. Keep em coming

  7. I was watching videos last night and watched this one and started laughing. It is just a few hours on a lake but one of those days you catch 100+ fish with some family. No big ones but was a lot of fun. Obviously not all fish are on the video but just some of the footage. The weather made the conditions perfect and hit a great cove on a lake so nothing to really brag about. Just a lot of fun, figured i would share it with just this site and then i'll take it down, enjoy. A 3 part video. Troy
  8. Sour grapes eh? I am still unsure what to make of your comment. Of course you still have to find the fish, but you don't have to look too hard!! The problem is getting them to bite, whereas in a lake you first have to find them in MUCH bigger water and then your challenge is getting them to bite. Let alone trying to track down bait fish and what not. I'm guessing there is a reason why you fish a private pond several times a month...It is all about odds. If it makes no difference, then stop fishing the private pond the rest of the year and let those who eat "sour grapes" fish it for ya!
  9. He is guarding that spot with his life. I don't blame him for just raping that thing with photoshop
  10. Awesome job. Great way to start the year
  11. Not much to brag about catching a big one out of a pond. However, give me a private pond and i will fish it everyday because it is sooooo much fun! Kind of like bobber and minnow fishing. The problem comes from those who brag about their fishing skills sticking big fish in private ponds.
  12. ha, this is funny. I thought i was the only one. I had several names for my swimbaits: Mrs's Huddleston, MaryweatherFeatherbottoms, and Mr. Gigglesworth (caught several good ones with him before i broke him off on rocks on a cast). Had a jig named Jeffrey that caught several 6 pound bass before being stolen by a northern pike.
  13. Barlows tackle is all you need. Stop searching elsewhere, get absolutely everything you need there. Biased, yes. But, it is just wonderful
  14. That is just so sexy. I feel like i have to change to another website if my wife walked in the room.
  15. I tie mine. I don't use wire since i love the control i have with ultra GSP thread and it is addicting. I usually slap a marabou as my base and then add bucktail and then finish it off with silicone all the way around. I have no idea how it compares to doing it a different way or more time efficient way but i love to make them this way and the end result really looks as good as it can i guess. The Tube has great instructional videos for certain techniques. I kinda have my own style with it but they have great advice and examples. Troy
  16. Works better in low light conditions...Well now this is interesting. Please share...
  17. Dwight, you are the man. Plain and simple. Everyone would benefit from just copying and pasting this. I'd take this conventional wisdom over any pro, any day.
  18. So here is a different type of fishing trip thread. I will not hint towards who it is about or who is being called out to give some great advice. I realize that i am not the most confident jerkbait fisherman but feel like my archives of knowledge are in need of professional wisdom on this manner. I have done some reading but i would rather have someone with the brown in his veins give a tutorial... DWIGHT! I know you are reading this. You know it, i know it, and everyone else does. You are trapped. You can not run away. So, i love to read many of the conventional wisdom on this site and realized that Dwight should write a really detailed write up for jerkbait fishing so i can keep just an inkling of this knowledge with me. So, Dwight, when you get the time, you will reply. If not, i will do nothing about it. And i will continue to fish the same way i do with a jerkbait and it will be your fault. I want details. Details about how you choose a spot to jerkbait fish, and the whole shabang. Don't you dare run from this. Troy
  19. Not sure i have much to add to the good advice given. I am a die hard old-school Norman tri blade buzzbait and have used the clackers the last 3 years and have loved them. What i do notice is speed. I can reel the Normans in much slower. The clackers have to be reeled in faster. Interestingly, i have a better hook up ratio with the faster reeled clacking buzzbaits. But concerning catch rate, they both seem to work equally for me. Those clackers really make some noise though. Plus to reiterate, i mostly throw black and occasionally will whip out the white.
  20. Yes, time in the water will straighten them out but i hate that! So, here are some ideas on straightening the pork. First off, uncle josh has a great scent, however, they all (with the exception of their new meat frog) have skin on them that make them stiffen up like this. That is why many of their baits actually do not float up like you see in some other porks that are awesome, but terribly marketed. One quick trick i have found is you get out your cutting board and place the pork down and hit it or have a thin cloth/news paper over it and hit it with the back end of a knife. Go back and forth on it. Start hitting it soft and gradually hit it harder while intermediately checking the pork to see if it is more malleable. I will do this on both sides since many of their porks have only the skin with little fat on the rind portions. The skin is what is being difficult. I then will do the roll where i roll it up both ways repeatedly just trying to do what time in the water would do to it. I'll then put it back in the jar. On real difficult skin you will have to do this on several occasions. Now, remember, the color may fade a hair and the underlying white color may come out but this shouldn't be a problem. The other option which is much easier is get glycerin and put a few drops in your jar a few days prior to use. This will 100% loosen that bait up but it will also attempt to disintegrate the bait and the life of the pork is decreased. However, if you know you will go through the baits during the week than it is definitely worth it. If you do however manage to not lose them while using them, put them in the freezer after use and bring them back out come fishing time. These two tricks are the best for the porks that i have discovered. Hope it helps. Troy
  21. It was written poorly by Hooligan and that is not what he meant and if you kept reading he later clarifies it was miswritten. Otherwise, yes i would completely be against what he said as well. The issue wasn't someone shouldn't be happy about catching a fish with less expensive equipment. The point was people throw too much judgment around and love to subtly compliment themselves by this David and Goliath comparison. Gets old.
  22. This seems to be the common quote from people who do not hold the top end gear. There is always the exclamation "we didn't have the nicer equipment and still overcame the odds!" As a side note and something i have noticed most of the time, anytime there is a really nice boat with top gear and another angler with older gear, it is always the the one with the less expensive equipment that exclaims "we did better and we didn't even have the nicer stuff". This isn't to completely place this whole rebuttal on you jbdaiwafan, but there is this weird tendency to really try and make ourselves feel better by saying these types of things when an angler with nicer equipment isn't thinking ANYTHING of it and not throwing out these judgments. This whole resiliency thing of the angler with cheaper equipment stuff "overcoming the greatest odds to beat the angler with nicer equipment" just gets old. I don't even own any nice equipment and this gets obnoxious. We get it, its fun to get the warm and fuzzies to compliment yourselves with this by saying it but i bet those with nicer equipment who win are not immediately judging you after a win. If people want nicer equipment then who cares. Just stop patting yourself on the back each time you catch a fish with a $50 dollar rod.
  23. this forum is so crappie. Always posting videos and fish pictures etc. always trying to brag. I am leaving and never returning ever and ever. And ever. I clicked on a side link yesterday that had a picture of a bass saying bass pro shops and it turned out to be an advertisement. The nerve of these guys. I am leaving. Who is coming with me.
  24. It still hasn't completely sunk in that he is gone. Anytime anyone experiences trauma, the best thing to do is to grieve and attempt to emotionally experience it over and over. If i choose not to think about it, i will be flooded with emotions later on and will be unable to control myself. Stiller, you will never know how much you hurt me. Your 16 posts will never be forgotten and have forever changed my perspective on fishing, marriage, and life. I say every night around 12 we all join together on this particular forum and talk about it. I wonder what he would have said had he just posted one more time. No, that thinking gets me know where. I hope he's in a better place. Maybe we will feel his presence when we reread this thread every morning noon and night. Time to go and kiss my little girl Stiller Jr. goodnight. I will wait till she is older to tell her what happened.
  25. What is the deal? What are those guys doing? I mean do you have an idea how someone can consistently do this out there? Do they share any of their secrets with you or are you guys just left guessing tournament after tournament? Just amazing
