Wow those tubes do look great, now I'm thinking I may need to get some. Are those solid or hollow, just wondering if you'll have issues hooking up with the little gap between the body and hook shank.
Agree Wayne,
Don O is what I consider a pioneer in the swimbait world. This man can catch some donkeys! I've ordered from him and would again without question. Call him and have a chat, he is full of information and great to talk with.
Awesome post Captain Shane! Florida is awesome man, catch saltwater species in the morning and bass/peacocks in the afternoon, Love it! I saw your vid with Ricky where your flippin cattails, looks like you've been doing it for years now!! I can't wait til you post a vid of you flipping up a DD!
One fish tourney, sounds awesome man! I'd get a light jig with a heavy hook, pair it with a beaver or craw trailer and look for bigger bites! Work it slow and if you feel anything, swing!
This! I love wind. Wind blown banks, humps and funnels are the deal. If you're in the right place a crankbait is the only bait you'll need ALL day. Even the big ones cant resist getting in on the action!
Sieberts Outdoors shakey head jig. I use these and will continue to only use these. The hooks are excellent and 9/10 times my fish are hooked on top of the mouth or deep on the side of the gill plate. The price cannot be any better either!! You may have to wait a few days but it's better than wasting money.
Good to hear Mike took care of you. He did the same for me when I ordered from him. His customer service is the reason why I visit his site FIRST when I'm looking to stock up on jigs!
I agree with sam...downsize your trailer. From my experiences I catch more lock jawed south florida bass on smaller baits moving slow and on the bottom. IMO the time now is the best time to learn...especially if you are fishing during the day,
Don't get frustrated..I've gone days in south florida without a bite this time of year.
I fish crankbaits unlike most. I use heavy braid and massive hooks. Example would be 1/0 or 2/0 owner st-41 or gammie magic eye short shanks on a kvd square 2.5. I even throw it on a daiwa zillion rod extra heavy, abu garcia stx with drag locked down. The extra bite of these big hooks rarely allows fish to get off. If they do mostly because Ireally horsed it in too fast. As someone mentioned the bass may be short striking as well. My technique is unconventional but it works for me. II've caught multiple big bass like this now as well as numbers.
Congrats Captain Shane! Didn't take you long once you really started fishing Lake O!! I'm sure there will be many for you.
Lets see some of those on vid!!!!
Jeff stuck some pigs on the 68 for sure!
The 68 is a small bait but still garners the attention of bigger bass. I throw mine with a Curado 200 E5 and a 7 foot heavy rod and have 0 problems. I guess I'm saying is that you don't need an expensive big rod and big reel for these baits.
A jig to me is mostly about the hook. Wire tied skirts are up there too. If I hadn't already stocked up I'd really be looking into the big o jigs. That one is nasty.
Thanks shanksmare
I have ordered from there and ordered alot, probably $300 worth of skirts and jig heads. I really like the alabama craw and PB and J living image skirts and the Gary Klein Heavy Cover Jig in 1/4 and 3/8 ounce. When these are gone I will most definitely order more. These jigs have excellent hooks and the head does come through cover nicely. The weed guards are extremely stiff so I cut off about 5-7 strands before using. If you find you don't like these get the Siebert Outdoors Big O jigs!
My order arrived today. I ordered 150 shakey head round ball jigs and one word "SICK"!!! I was laughing putting them into my box thinking how many fish I'm going to stick on these things. Quality for sure!! Thanks Mike!
