  11. this year i MUST learn to tie some new knots. also want to figure em out off the bank and do a little open water fishing. this year i WILL catch one on a jig n pig.ive caught so many on plastic crawfsh, flappin hogs and wooley hogtails that surely i can get one on a jig.
  12. Don't get the spot removers. I lose a ton of fish with these jig heads because the hook is small. I don't know if you know what "the perfect jig" head is but it has a flat bottom like a spot remover, but it also incoporates a football head design. They come in a little tube labled the perfect jig. They use bigger hooks than a spot remover and i have never lost a fish using em. As for worms i like a zoom trickworm. In highly pressured lakes though i like to throw a 6" fat roboworm straight tail and a 7" stratight tail worm in oxblood light red flake. You can't beat it.
  13. i think i know exactly what you're experiencing. the key to what you say is that it doesn't birdsnest and that it happens near the boat. my guess is that you have a fairly fast casting motion. what's happening is, at the beginning of your cast, your spool is turning faster than the line is paying out. you can verify this by watching your reel as you cast normally...you will see the line forming multiple loops that sometimes work themselves out but sometimes catch onto themselves. after the lure hits the water, continue pulling out some line by hand and i bet it comes out smoothly but sometimes the spool moves backwards over a loop. if it were line-digging causing your problem, the line wouldn't pay out smoothly and you'd be able to see it rubbing against small ruts in your line. i experience this problem occasionally on some of my magnetic reels too. my recommendation is to modify your casting motion so that your backswing is not so violent. smoothness is the key with mag reels.
  14. went out to the rez yesterday with a buddy. got on the water around 830 am and couldn't find em till around 1:00. but when we did they weren't just a bunch o 1 and 2 pounders, we were catching 4 and close to 5 pounders one after the other. the whole spot was boiling, i love it when they do that. ive never had a day like that out there. never been to that particular spot either. backwaters way off the main river. it was like they knew it was the last day to fatten up before winter. yesterday it got up to the 70's . today its been in the low 40's and will continue to drop throughout the week. i felt like dude on caddyshack playin his personal best round of golf in the rain gettin carried away right before gettin struck by lightening, only i didnt get struck by lightning, just winter. :'(. wish i had pics, but like i said they were boiling, and we just wanted to rack up on what i think was the last frenzy of the year.time to slooooow down. thought i'd share
