  1. around 4lbs, maybe a little more
  2. I used it a little the last couple of years, and it worked really well. The downfalls of this rig is the time it takes to tie it up, and the fact that no matter how good of a swivel you have, you get line twist to some extent. I caught a few bass that were pretty big on this, actually
  3. I havent tried any hard swimbaits before, when do they have an advantage over the soft swimbaits?
  4. I know how the whole bad pic thing goes, there are few times i was super excited because i just caught another 5lber, but the camera makes it look like a 2lber.
  5. The break off was completley my fault because I was casting to the shore and ended up tangling with some bushes and docks a few times. After I broke off, i felt the line and it was as if somebody ran over it with a sander. I should be more observative especially if im fishing for big fish. But I have always wanted to try one of those blugills. The baby bass look great too. I was curious if the swimbait with the hooks and weight molded (like the mattlures) in have a different action compared to the ones i listed, which have the tail action and a bit of a side to side wobble too.
  6. I live in berrien county, and i have been slaying them on huskey jerks and rattletraps. A majority have been small, and the beds i can find are usually vacant. The last two times i went out, i caught 12 bass each time, within 2 1/2 hours. No size to any of them.
  7. I purchased some poor boy's silly rabbits a little while ago, and was waiting to try them out this spring. I got out, and was a little disapointed with the action. It didn't seem really "fishy" However, the big bait caught several bass in one outing including a 13 inch bass, but one broke me off when i set the hook. I should have re-tied. I guess the action was appealing to the fish, and that is all that matters. My question is, how do these baits measure up to others like the berkley hollow belly, luke e strike bass magic, basstrix fat minnow, etc. What is your favorite swimbait?
  8. Im not doubting the weight of the fish, I can't argue that because the fish in my avatar is 7lbs, and looks like a 4lber. But according to weight calculators (and some personal experience) a 19 inch bass will not break 9 lbs unless it has a 25 1/2 inch girth, and the fish doesn't appear to be 1 1/3 times as fat as it is long. Its probably longer than 19 inches, and the length of the fish is required if you want to mount it, since a vast majority of taxidermists charge by the inch. However, nice fish, congrats on a new pb!
  9. Dont buy those walking worms, its a piece of plastic ingeniously designed to catch fisherman. The thing might catch a fish or two, but get a finnesse worm and throw it on a shakey head, and you can probably do better. I like to throw x-raps and huskey jerks in clear water, along with senkos, tubes, and shakey head rigs.
  10. I caught these two out of round lake in sister lakes, MI. The first one actually didnt fight extremley hard since i got it to follow up to the boat and hooked it doing a figure 8, but the second one pulled like a train, and jumped completley out of the water 2 times, which was really cool. I got all wet trying to land it. Un hooking the fish was actually kind of challanging with lures that have a set of trebles on them. These fish dont quit fighting even when they are in the boat.
  11. Not too bad for southwest michigan. But the thing is, these were muskies. The real surprise is that i have never been muskie fishing, and i have never been on a lake with muskies before. These things were a blast, and i cant wait to catch another one!
  12. Went to a lake with my goal in mind, learn to powerfish. I was tossing an ika, which was quite the opposite. After about 2 hours with 3 bass, i decided i should pick up the pace, i was supposed to learn how to powerfish anyways. Good thing i made the switch, because i ended up catching 10 bass in the next hour on a strike king rattle trap. A couple were close to 3 lbs. but the majority were about 13-15"
  13. Well im all for catch and release, i dont think ive kept a bass in about 3 years, and i do agree the law is in place for good reasons. With my luck, i would be the one that gets in trouble for a delayed release, while some other guys are keeping 10" smallies, which are both undersized and out of season. You see this every day! I try telling these people, very few listen, others claim its a rock bass or a warmouth, and refuse to listen to logic. Now we bring a rulebook that has the laws and pictures of fish every time we go down there.
  14. I had a slow day, only catching 3 fish. One was about 15", another was 3lbs. 0oz, and the third was a new pb! Michigan has this stupid law where from the 25th until the saturday before memorial weeked, it is catch and immediate release for bass. There were a bunch of people around, and i didnt want to get in trouble by weighing it and not releasing it right away. It would have been a 5lber, if not extreamly close to it. Pics will be up in a few days.
  15. I recently dished out a few bucks to buy some of these swimbatis everybody has been talking about. I bought some 5.75" poor boys silly rabbits, and was a little curious if i should be using them this time of year. Im in michigan, so the water temps are at or just under 50 degrees. I was thinking about tying one on a seperate rod and throwing it mostly when i see a shallow fish, since there are a few in the shallows. What do you think...
  16. Sounds like it was a good think i just picke up a sexy shad strike king lipless crank last week.
  17. So heres my problem. I am trying to learn how to powerfish, and so far its been a pleasant experience. We went to a lake the other day, and I outfished my partner 3-1 while I was using agressive tactics with a jerkbait and he was working a tube. My question is, what type of reaction bait would you use in my conditions. The water is about 47-50 degrees and stained, the lake has a distinct weedline along the shore that drops off from only a few feet to about 20 feet very quickly, with a few shallower weed beds. I was wondering if i could be catching more fish if i was using a deeper running crankbait or a rattletrap. Do you think i should give swimbaits a try?
  18. well i caught my new pb on a cavitron buzzbait, and my favorite jig at this time is the evolution jig because it has a great stand up stance, as far a scents go, I always try to use them, the give me more confidence, i dont know if any out perform each other too much to notice a big difference
  19. Couldnt wait for the water to unfreeze. There was still ice on about 25% of the lake, and I only fished for about 30 minutes. Caught a 12 inch pig on a huskey jerk. I also found a dead body of a 4+lb fish. Water should be clear in a few days, but im going to be in florida anyways.
  20. There is a good video on the chigger craw done by boyd duckett, but this website wont let me post a link to the site.
  21. I tried organizing everything yesterday. Ive got it pretty good, except i have too many soft plastics to take with me on all trips and keep them organized.
  22. The technique seems to be clearer now, but a main concern would be, what are your best baits for doing this? Its seems you would use a little heavier jig because you are trying to actually get into the weeds, where in normal pitching conditions, you are trying to get it near the cover.
  23. Its a great lure for crappie, walleye, and salmonoids off of the pier. It catches tons of fish, but i have never fished with it exclusivley for bass. One way i love to fish it is to put a beetle spin type arm on it, but replace the tiny colorado blade with a mid sized willow leaf blade. Its a killer in clear water and seems to be a little more snagless than a traditional spinnerbait
  24. I have heard a little about this, and was informed a little more at a seminar i saw at bass pro. Im still a little confused. I saw a video where some people were actually doing it, and it looks like your flipping a jig like you would when in heavy cover, or to docks, but your just throwing it into weeds. They would toss it out, let it sink, hop it a little bit, and throw it out again. Do you just target holes and edges in the weedbeds and run your way through them? I think LBH has been know to do this, am i right?
  25. I was looking at these when i was at bass pro. They caused quite a stir of attention. However, there was an employee who was quite knowledgeble on fishing swimbaits. He said that these were nice, but stiff. I agreed. The action is minimal, and they arent really an ideal swimbait. He pointed me to the poor boy's silly rabbit, which is less realistic, but much more livley with a larger tail and softer tail. He claims they have a much better action and are the better lure. I hope hes right.
