everyone tells me to fish the single tail, i just dont find the colors they have for it that great. I dunno, maybe i have gotten into a bad mind set. The river i fish is kinda dirty so i try to stay towards the birghtests baits they offer. Just feel like the fish can see them better in the water. I usually just fish it with an 1/8 oz jig head while i wade down the river. Pretty standard stuff. -Ryan Z

So I have been fishing a couple of rivers by me for about 3-4 months now and nothing has killed the small mouth more then GYCB 4' hula grubs. I was just wondering if this is a fluke or if anyone else out there tears them up with gycb hula grubs. Usually i fish with chartuse w/ large black flakes because the water is kinda muddy and the green just shows out so much. -Ryan Z

I recently purchased a new rod and reel online and I wanted to see if anyone on here used either of these and what there opinions are on them. I do know some people who own the rod, so mainly I was trying to find out about the reel but feel free to post about both of them. The rod is a G Loomis SJ782 GLX, and the reel is a Okuma AE30. any shimanos in mind that i should steer towards? As for why its common to dip my reel underwater, im not trying to obviously, but I wade the rivers im fishing and once and a while i hit a hole and the reel goes down under water, or you hit a bolder and the current takes you over....basically im in the water the whole time, so the reel goes under from time to time. I wanted to make this post. Im currently in the market for a new spinning reel. I want to stay towards shimano or penn. This reel should be able to hold 10lb line and be durable, I fish alot of rivers and its normal to dip my reel completely under water. Im just trying to get some advice on what new reels are good out there. Im looking to stay within the range of 75-150 dollars. If anyone has any tips, or suggestions on what i should get please let me know. I will be fishing for smallmouth/largemouth/wallaye with this reel.. Ryan Z

Heres the info. The tippecanoe river is a river that comes straight out of lake freemont in monticello Indiana. Yes they do open up a dam that pours water into it every once in a while. The current seems pretty fast some times i find my jig on top of the water trailing behind me when we hit 1 foot spots and the current is stronger. Usually we are walking in 2 to 3 feet of water, but it varies, sometimes we will hit spots where the river gets up to my chest (im 5' 10''). The best spot so far has been a about 3-4 foot slow moving current spot right before you hit a 1 foot "rapid" area. Im guessing thats because the fish build up right there in that whole and dont want to go through the shallow area. The river is kinda muddy, i've been using bright green hula grubs by yamamto with a 1/8oz jig.

So I recently have been fishing the tippacanoe river in Indiana and have been very succesful with smallmouth. Ive been catching around 30 every time i go within a 5 hour period. Needless to say Ive been having a blast, the only question i have though is how to nail the bigger smallies. Right now im hitting 10-13 inchers every other couple of minutes, but never anything that is big( besides one 4lb 12oz smallie yesterday that my buddy pulled out ;D ). Anyways i figure this is probably a stupid question but i would ask it anyways. Does anyone know what i could do to try and catch or lure in bigger fish. Fighting 13 inch smallies out of the river is fun, especially at the rate im doing it, but id like to start going after and nailing some bigger guys. To give you my scenario, im using a 1/8oz jig head, with a gary yamato 4" twin tail grub. Let me know if you guys have any suggestions on what to do. Thanks Ryan Z

Ok so I have fished largemouth and a variety of other fish predominatly all my life but have just started fishing smallmouth. I Live in Indiana and have been fishing a creek (Wildcat Creek) for about a month now. I have had on and off success but I am still figuring out the creek and tryig to learn some good techniques for fishing these smallies. I wanted to ask a question on this thread because it has about the same scenario I am fishing right now. My question is however that i heard the use about the same thing, salty grubs with an 1/8 jig head. I was told however to stick to green. Dont know if that is just what is hitting now here or if you should stay towards green grubs in creeks but thats what i was told. Feel free to correct me please, i want the help. Also i was wondering, you say to just reel in steady, i usually am used to reel a little jerk, reel a little jerk, to simulate a jigging motion. Is this wrong or will i have more success reelling steady with the grub in a creek. Let me know anything you guys can to help me out. I appreciate all of the replies. Thanks, Ryan Z
