  1. I have braid on all three baitcasters I have. All green power pro. I run 50 on my quantum accurist pt and my Abu Garcia revo x. On my shimano chronarch I use 30. The revo and chronarch go on almost every trip together so I have the 30 and 50. If not then I bring the quantum depending.
  2. Revo sx. Just bought one. Super smooth. For about the same price online as in store you could get a shimano chronarch.
  3. Hey guys. I have three reels I would like to customize. Maybe a new handle, bearings, whatever else I can do to improve/customize them. I was wondering if you would be able to link me to some stuff. Here are the reels that I have- -Abu Garcia Ambassedeur Revo SX / http://www.abugarcia.com/products/reels/low-profile-baitcast-reels/revo/revo-sx -Shimano Chronarch 200E / http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/low_profile_baitcasting/chronarch.html -An older, I believe 2001 Model Quantum Accurist PT, still going strong. All of these reels are left handed models. Thanks for your help! I Couldn't find anything on the internet, but i've seen some pictures of your guys' stuff and i'd like to add some class to my reels also.
  4. I meant chronarch... Lol good catch!
  5. So I don't really have to worry about em? I guess I'll end up cleaning them at the end of this season. Does anybody know if I should live the revo or are they just case by case rumors?
  6. Hey guys. First off, I am wondering what type of maintenance specifically for each reel I should perform, i'll list my reels below. -Shimano Curado 201E6 (just got it in 2011) - Used it a month or two a few times a week, always dried it off and blew out water as it got wet. -Quantum Accurist PT (maybe from 2001 or so) - I disassembled this reel last year and re-applied hot sauce oil and grease. I don't know if this stuff needs to be lubed every once in a while or if it's a clean and redo once a year type lubricant. -Abu Garcia Ambassedeur Revo SX (just got it this weekend) - Never used, heard they come somewhat dry depending on the reel So my question is, should I do anything to these reels or should i just wait out the season and do maintenance as the season comes to a close? Incase anybody is interested, I'm pairing the Shimano with a 6'6" medium heavy St. Croix triumph 1 piece and it has 30# red powerpro on it. The Quantum is on a 6'6" ugly stik medium with #50 powerpro green. And the Abu Garcia will be on a 6' medium heavy lightening rod with #50 green powerpro I think i'm going to use the Shimano/St. Croix for a plastics rod The Quantum will be a frogging/top water rod And the Abu Garcia will be my spinner/Buzz bait rod
  7. Thanks guys. Yeah, i plan on upgrading the rod. I just find it easier to spend on a reel first with a decent rod, than buy a really nice rod with a shotty reel. What is a good inexpensive rod to pair with this reel? I do a lot of fishing around trees and stuff, so 6' and under would be good.
  8. I got my girlfriend to go fishing with me. First time was easy. She didn't catch much. So onto the third time she wasn't really into it, so i set her up with a little rapala i had given her and she was catching fish. Does your gf catch anything? If not, make sure she does. Who hates going fishing when you're catching fish?
  9. So i finally got around to getting a new setup. Haven't posted here in forever so now's a good time! I bought a Shimano Chronarch 201E6. Beautiful reel. Got a berkley lightening rod IM6 6' 1 piece MH. Not a bad rod, a lot better than the setup I got before this. And for line i went with red power pro in 30lb. My previous setup was a quantum accurist pt lefty (probably 6 or so years old), a shakespeare 6'6" 1 piece ugly stik MH, and 50lb power pro. The difference in weight, drag smoothness, castability and sensitivity is phenominal. No comparison. My quantum setup is still going strong and isn't getting put away anytime soon, but the shimano setup will probably be coming with me more often than not.
  10. The only thing i really have trouble with is placement. I can't really get it to go anywhere. It goes left or right depending on which side i cast from.
  11. so no matter how hard i try i won't be able to cast the rapalas and stuff?
  12. Ok, so i get the basics of a baitcaster. I love them and i've used them saltwater fishing. I only have one baitcaster now and here's my setup. I have a 1 piece shakepeare ugly stik 6'6" medium with a Quantum Accurist AC501PT (olderish model, probably 6 years old) and on that lefty reel i have 12 lb berkley big game clear mono. I like casting rapala lures, plastic worms, and some lighter trout lures like rooster tails and stuff. I fish off shore all the time and don't make casts much more than 20 to 30 yards out at the most, mainly around 15 yards. I know how to set the tension adjustment knob and the centrifigul brakes. On the Diawa i had, i mastered that but could only cast it 10 yards with no backlast. The quantum is really touchy and smooth and i'm not used to that. I would like to make this baitcaster my go to rod for everything and ditch the spinning reel but i don't really know how to practice... i like baitcasters for the way they perform but i just don't know. I don't want to give up yet.
  13. where is that? Do you ever fish the shoreline??
  14. I used to use the rod and reel combos until i got some money together.
  15. I used to live in newington, so i went out to north farms reservoire, farmington river, hammonasset river and places like that. Now that i live on the shoreline i'm limited as i have no car. I've caught bass on the farmington before, but on rapalas. The #7 firetiger rapala i kill fish with seems to be hit or miss at this new place. I do wash my hands, no attractors, and just washed my box a week or so ago. The river flows, but barely. Its very very slow moving almost still. Theres a pool at one end, and very vegetationy at the other end where it V's off and comes from the water source. It's mainly rocks and sand in the bottom with a few stumps and natural hides under. It's never stocked and there is no man made materials in it.
  16. today i went out. and i think i back lash the most in my life. sadly its my fault too.. i ll cast and not pay attention and release my thumb. lol. What were you casting out?
  17. what time of the day are you fishing? i was always told if using topwater its has to be early or at night. thats why im trying to move on to deeper waters in mid mornings/afternoons when the heat is out. but today the pond i was fishing seems to be only 7 feet for the deepest. and i was trying the carolina rigging. I fish a river which at its deepest is probably 6 feet, with the main part being 2 or 3 feet. theres tall plants where it dips down a foot from the upper part, its very slow moving. the only bass are largemouth, some lily pads. very few. theres some stumps and cover in the upper part, the sun hits most of the river. theres an over hanging patch of ivy which provides cover also. i fish 10am to 6pm. i no i have a small river im just dying to get out and see how deep it is. my brother fell in one time and never touched the bottom. and i wouldnt even say that the river is over 40 feet wide. i can cast across it no problem. and i hear it post to have some very deep holes too. on your river are you just using topwaters?? Nope, rapalas, plastics and friends throw live bait also. Your fishing spot sounds just like mine. I can walk in for the most part a little above my knees (im 6').
  18. i have a ton of tackle for all varieties of fish. I've just kind of put my baitcasters to the side for now, mainly because of how large my ugly stik is and how closed in the spots i fish are. but now that i have a shorter rod with another baitcaster im eager to get it on the water. i don't fish with the brakes on and can set up the tension adjustment knob fine, but i need more time on the water. I'm having doubts about casting my #7 rapala floating, i can cast 1 #4 splitshot on the end of the string, but the rapala is making me nervous lol.

  20. im not sure of set up, im just not a fan of ugly sticks and i never buy a 2 piece. so im my eyes i would eventually up grade the 5'6 rod if anything first and taller, Yeah, the zebco rod i got from a bud because i didn't have a rod for that reel and my shimano rod had a long unhealthy life lol. its not all super glued and duct taped is it?? lol haha no not at all. I was the second owner and after my spinning reel got stuck in the seat(spinning rod also) i had to tear it apart sadly. I beat the crap out of it and it came back for more, but did also maintain it.
  21. I have both a frog and a chartreuse mouse for top water(not my only topwater) and have never been successful with top water except a hula popper. I also have a heddon crazy crawler and jitterbug, but none of it gets any attention because it never seems to work. How can i get it to be most effective?

  23. Just wondering what you guys think of my setup. I have a Quantum Accurist AC501PT on a Shakespeare Ugly Stik 6'6" 1 piece baitcasting rod with 12lb berkley mono and a Diawa baitcaster on a zebco 2 piece 5'6" rod with 12lb berkley mono. Haven't done much fishing with either of them, mostly spinning reels. trying to get into the baitcasters.
