  1. Basically these are the ones i've found, but feel free to pitch ideas in. I'm doing away with the BPS due to reviews and not being able to find any more info out. -Abu Cardinal STX10 -Abu Orra S10 -Pflueger President 6925X
  2. I would like to purchase a spinning rod and reel. My rod purchase will be 40$ or under, my reel purchase of 60$ and under. Any other recommendations? I'll be running 6lb max on it.
  3. http://www.basspro.com/Pflueger-President-6900-Series-Spinning-Reels/product/10213341/#desc-tab (6925X) or http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Extreme-Spinning-Reels/product/11092105011328/#desc-tab (ex10B) Don't know which one is better specs wise. I have no experience with bass pro equipment.
  4. You could service it yourself. I've serviced many baitcasters and never had to use a reel schematic. You just need to be methodical in how you approach the reel, and organized. You could buy yourself some mineral spirits (Which i prefer to use) and put all your bearings in that for 5-10 minutes, shake them around every once in a while. That should flush out the old lube. Then use compressed air (or when i'm not near an air source, i'll wrap a paper towel around the bearing and blow through it), and blow out the mineral spirits. One drop of a quality reel oil and you're set. While you're in there, if you feel ambitious, take off all the old grease on the gears and lube up with fresh grease. Then it's set for a season or two, depending on how much you fish!
  5. One more question. This being the first shimano i've worked on (spring under the drag was a new one for me), when i tighten the level wind guide down, will it snug down and stop turning, or do i just turn it until i feel comfortable with the tightness? Other ones i've done have tightened down, but i don't want to strip out anything.
  6. And hot sauce can't be used at all on dartanium?
  7. I've seen you can run them dry, does this cause premature wear, or just not as smooth of a drag?
  8. I don't mind, it's not like i look at the inside of my reel lol. As long as it works, i'm fine with it.
  9. Personal preference not fact? Lol. But I'm fine to throw a thin film of hot sauce on the dartanium washer, slap the reel together and call it a day, right?
  10. Ok. So now that that's cleared up, my reel isn't a Frankenstein lol. I did a good job soaking my bearings and cleaning the whole reel thoroughly with a toothbrush and such. All oil reel and oil it gone. Put a drop of hot sauce oil in each bearing, and hot sauce grease on all gears, and I prefer grease on my worm gear, so please don't try and tell me otherwise. When it finally goes I switch to oil, don't ask lol. Anyways, I should be good right? I don't want 15 different brand reel products to have to keep around. And you said shimano doesn't void warranty if using hot sauce? I know it shouldn't be mixed with other grease or oil, so that's why I thoroughly cleaned it. It was raining and I had nothing better to do. Good thing too, no grease was left in the reel! Just pond scum.
  11. Is the only reason you all don't recommend hot sauce in a shimano due to warranty? I service my reels myself so I don't worry about warranty. The reel is going on two and I just cleaned it! I had good results with hot sauce in my other reels, and it's what I had. And are you guys positive my reel shouldn't have that carbontex washer in it? The hot sauce won't ruin anything internally right?
  12. That is odd. Just saw the post above yours. Mine is a mixture of carbontex and dartanium. The one which broke is dartanium, the one behind it is carbontex. But yes. The reel was brand new, never opened from shimano.
  13. I lubed my entire reel with hot sauce oil And grease, I believe you sent it to me actually. I bought the reel brand new, it's the 201E6. The washer that sits in the drive gear was like the old layered washers in older reels, almost like a thick cardboard. It was the color of lead when I pulled it out, and there were flakes of it in the reel.
  14. Fishing a senko or jig also teaches how to feel out a fish.
  15. I do it when I notice a performance decrease or if I fish dirty water a lot. Like maybe once a year. What are you fishing with? How often? Dirty water?
  16. Whatever came stock with the chronarch is what I have. You are probably right on the mix. Do I grease the new one with my hot sauce grease or install it as it is from the package? It's already on its way so ill switch it out next time around.
  17. I know the rear one is a carbontex. The one I'm replacing I'm guessing is also. It's part BNT2431.
  18. The one between the anti reverse ratchet and drive gear is textured like a grinding wheel you would use for metal, and the one which I'm replacing as far as I can tell is smooth.
  19. Yes, the rear one was a carbontex. It had no lubricant on it to begin with.
  20. What i do when i get a hit is i wait a few seconds, raise the rod tip and feel for pressure, then set the hook hard. reel in and give slight pressure back again to make sure the hook is in, then just bring it in as usual. I use koppers frogs and spro frogs. Try shortening up the legs a bit, bend the hooks out and up a slight bit, so they aren't on the body so much. Most of it is just patience though.
  21. Hey guys. I disassembled and cleaned up my shimano chronarch 201E6. I used quantum hotsauce reel grease and oil on it, cleaned it all up. The drag washer (BNT2431) was shedding all over the inside of the reel. The drag washer between the anti reverse ratchet and drive gear is fine, slight dust, but nothing that concerned me. Still had deep texture. The one between the key washer and the drive gear is the one that was in poor shape, and i also accidentally bent it. So i ordered a new one. The drag washers don't require grease, correct? I didn't grease the one which i'm not replacing, as it was dry to begin with.
  22. Hey guys. Just wondering how you would pair these reels up with the rods. I have in my possession: -Shimano Chronarch 201E7 (#30 PP) -Abu Garcia Revo SX (#50 PP) -Quantum Accurist PT (#50 PP) -St. Croix Triumph 6'6" Medium Heavy Fast Action -Berkley Lightening Rod 6' Medium Heavy -Shakespeare Ugly Stik 6'6" Medium Heavy I currently have them paired up how they sit in the list, but don't know whether to switch them up to use for different styles of fishing, casting ability, etc. I just bought them together at the times.
  23. Hey guys. It's been pretty cold here lately, not even hitting 60 some days. No idea what the water temperature is but I'm guessing its not warm! How do you fish ponds in this colder weather? Fish the bottom slow?
  24. Try it yourself, very easy. Get some quantum hot sauce and go to work.
