  1. I'm guessing this weekend is off. Would it be better for everyone to just put the get-together off until the spring? Looks like some people have conflicts for a variety of reasons and some have concerns about the fishing that late. Plus it would give everyone a long time to make plans. We have never been to Black Hills so we're not sure how good the fishing would be in the spring either. I am open to any time and any place that suits everyone else.
  2. The 16th would be OK for us. Once again thanks for the effort putting the meeting together.
  3. Not sure my son and I can help with the residence thing. We're not even from the right state. We could miss the get-togther especially if we hurt your residence count.
  4. All sounds good to me. Hope you are counting me and my son. Count me in for any funds for the pavilion. If we fish from a boat that's OK too but not necessary. As for the date...any Sunday is good for us. Again thanks for taking the time and effort to get things organized.
  5. Just checking into see if anything new has happened. Looks like I will be working until 10:00PM on October 1. I assume the get together will be on October 2. We will need fairly detailed directions to the spot where everybody will be gathering. I am pretty sure we could find the park but beyond that I'm not sure. We have never been to Black Hills. Any help would be appreciated. Also I would still be intersted in providing any help with any finds needed for the get together. If the thing gets postponed or cancelled that would be disappointing but understandable too. As for fishing, my guess is we would be shore fishing.
  6. Just checking in to see if anything new has happened. Hope things are still coming together. We haven't been fishing much...so no posting.
  7. Glad things are coming together for the meet. I would be willing to help with any funds necessary for food, pavilion, etc.
  8. Lots of nice fish and pics posted lately. We got out last night to Middletown Pond. Water was low and kinda blueish looking and no one was fishing but us. I caught two LM on a Power Shakeyhead Worm and a Power Tube. One was only a 10 incher but the other was a 15 1/2 incher and weighed about 2 1/4 pounds. Gonna try and post a pic that my son took with a cell phone. We wanted to try and hit Brownsville but ran out of time. Was glad to see the usual slop floating on top at Middeltown was not to be seen.
  9. October 2 or 16 OK with us. Thanks for taking the time and interest to put this thing together.
  10. I agree you should be there. Any Sunday is good for me. If it is into October is even OK with me. Saturdays would be tricky.
  11. Got a couple things here. We got out to our river spot last Sunday. I caught a nice little smallie on a Tiny Torpedo but nothing else. Made one last cast near dark and lost a Tiny Torpedo in a downed tree. We left then and I decided to come back the next evening and try our boat and cross the river to get the lure back along with two others we've lost over the last month or so. We knew we had a hole last year and fixed it. Put the boat in and lo-and-behold two more leaks appearred. I guess the original leak was so bad it covered the other two up. I start my vacation about 10PM tonight when I get off work so we should have time to do some fishing somewhere next week. Also looks like the meet up isn't getting much support...maybe Black Hills is too popular a spot We could always wait until next spring and maybe have it at a place like Middletown Park which seems like a nice place as well. Just a thought.
  12. My son and I would be interested. Black Hills on the 18th would be fine or any other location for that matter. No boat. Sundays are best for us due to working Saturdays.
  13. Nice picture and good story. If you parked at the campground itself...you can take that road(Canal Road - i think)and you will eventually reach a small parking lot as the road makes a sharp turn to go up a hill to MD Route 34. If you walk across the Lock bridge and turn left or right you come to two paths where my son and I mostly fish the river. Trouble there is a lot of hikers, bikers, dog walkers and parents with kids take up the few parking spots. Not complaining just making a comment. You can go across the Rumsey Bridge into Shepherdstown and use the boat ramp there. I've seen guys have a little trouble there when river is low so I'd be careful there. We see lots of boats put in there. I know you can go upstream...maybe to Snyder's Landing and downstream to just pass the railroad bridge. I'm guessing it would be good to have a depth finder. We've got a 10 foot jon boat but haven't got in the water yet but hope to sometime soon.
  14. My son and I would be up for a meet. We could most likely make any Sunday...if it's gonna be on a Saturday I would need about a month's notice to try and get off work. I work in a grocery store and Saturday's are kinda hard to get off. Any location decided on would be OK. We would fish from shore if any fishing is done. Would also be willing to help with any refreshments, etc.
  15. Looks like pictures didn't turn out quite right. I had to right-click and then re-open them. On a side note Basser89 - did you ever think about doing a get-together of the posters here? I see on some of the other threads guys try and do it. I'm sure it would be hard to organize but it looks like Black Hills would be a good place especially after Labor Day...if the fishing is still good there. Just a thought and to me you would make a great host.
  16. Hope this works.
  17. Didn't realize it had been a while since I posted. Welcome to the new posters. You joined a great and helpful forum run by Basser89. We not been having much success lately at the river. Have caught a few at Sharpsburg Pond and Cacapon Park Lake in Berkeley Springs WV. I'm gonna try and put up a couple photos if I can. One will be about a 16-18 inch LM caught on a Watermelon Yum Dinger and I'm guessing 3-4 pounds. This picture may not show too well. Other is about a 1 1/2 LM my son caught on a Pearl Yum Dinger a couple of weeks ago. They don't measure up to some of the pics here. My boss is on vacation this coming week and we're short-handed...looks like a pretty stressful week ahead. Hope to get out maybe it will help with all the worries I'll have. I'll try the pics next post.
  18. Looks like a quite a few people are catching some fish here. I've had trouble getting on the site the past couple of weeks. We've been out a few times with not much luck. I did catch about a 16 inch LM at Sharpsburg Pond last night on a Shakeyhead worm. We've been on the Potomac a few times at Rumsey Bridge near Shepeherdstown, at Dargan boat ramp and above Harpers Ferry Bridge. Only caught two small Smallies and a sunfish. Water in river is moving too fast for shore fishing(at least I think so). We really want to get our small jon boat out but I'm still a little leery of the current. We see a lot of small boats, kayaks and canoes near where we fish and they seem to have little problems so maybe it's my imagination. Maybe we can get out today somewhere...too bad that Black Hills is a journey...that's seems to be the hot spot.
  19. Glad you and yours are OK after your ordeal. Hope you can re-group and get another boat, etc. You are right to be thankful you made it through the tornado without injury. Take care. Hopefully insurance can replace your boat and brother's house and you can make another fishing trip soon.
  20. Sorry for my typing everyone.
  21. My son and I got out last night. I looked at the river some and it looked like it had dropped some so we tried the Potomac at Shepherdstown on MD side. I got my first smallie this year. Just a small guy but put up a good fight. Caught on a green pumpkin tube. Current is still too much for my liking though. We lost some equipment and moved on to Sharpsburg Pond. Wow it's getting full of grass and what-not. My son got a bass on a Yum Dinger. I had an unusual experience...wished we got a picture on this one. I was using a Yum Dinger as well but was at deeper end of the pond. I felt a hit and set the hook. At first I thought I had a decent fish...then nothing...thought I was snagged(doesn;t happen much there)...then felt some movement. Called my son and told him I had something big. First thought it was a big bass hung in some grass but it didn't move like a bass. Then thought it was a snapper. Finally got it wqhere we could see i8t and it was a huge catfish. We got it to shore and couldn't pull it up with the rod. We grabbed thew line and lifted but ti broke off taking the Dinger and hook. Looked like it was hooked on the loweer side. Just guessing it was noless than 8 pounds and maybe 10 pounds. Not sure what kind of cat it was...belly was mostly white with dark spots. Top of fish was darker. Wished we got a picture.
  22. Glad to see you getting out on the river. We haven't messed with it too much. Think it's a little too high for us. Hopefuuly rain stays low and we can get out on the Potomac. We got out to Sharpsburg Saturdaynight. I caught four and my son caught three. Biggest about a 1 1/2 pounder and smallest about 10/11 inches. Looks like spawn is over there. Also went to Cacapon Park Lake yesterday. Only caught one but it was my best so far this year. Guessing close to three pounds...looked like a female ready to drop eggs soon. Also got out to Middletown last weekend. Looks like spawn there is long over or hasn't started. Water was pretty cloudy but didn't see any signs of nesting bass. We might try to get out today after some yard-work. Just want to thank all who served and have served on this Memorial Day Weekend.
  23. Hi Basser89. Yeah I got out that evening. Fished for about a half hour. Looks like they had just mowed the grass and I did catch a lot of it,. I fished on the stone wall right at the corner of the Visistor Center. Didn't try anywhere else. We have gotten out twice since then. First trip was on Saturday(May 7)to Sharpsburg where my son caught three LM most on the small side. We then hit Brownsville. Water was a little cloudy. We started using soft plastics on the end with the big sycamore tree. Looked like a large fish was along the edge at least by the way the water boiled up a couple times. I moved down by the tree that hangs out over the bank near the middle. Got a pretty good thump and set the hook. I could tell it was something big by the weight but it didn't move like a large bass. Thought it got off but it was coming straight at me instead. Finally got in close and it was a big catfish. It was hooked behind the gills in the side. Was about to pull it up on shore and it broke off. I'm guessing at least 6/7 lbs. I don't know if it hit the bait and knew it was fake and turned and I hooked it or what. Our second trip was last night at Sharpsburg and the Potomac blow the Rumsey Bridge at Shepherdstown on MD side. Water was a little cloudy and moving a little too fast for fishing. We moved on to Sharpsburg. My son caught for bass from 7 inches to about 10 inches a n a Creme worm. I finally got on the board for 2011 with a 12 inch bass on the same lure. Saw plenty of bass moving but not much action. Hooked a couple nice ones guarding beds but didn't bring them in to shore. Looks like spawn has happened or is happening there. Lots of crap on the water there. There were three guys catching trout at the deeper end. One of them told me they tore up some smallies drifting down from Dam 4 to Taylor's Landing. Said they were using crankbaits. Also said they had not spawned...bellies were big and tails not messed up. Kinda surprised me to hear that comment. Looks like river should be good now.
  24. My son and I got out to a local Berkeley County Pond. Water was kinda cloudy but you could still see about a foot or so down. We saw about 5 LM...not on beds yet but seemed to be looking for a place to spawn. Largest two were about 4 pounds I'm guessing and other three about two pounds or so. Smaller fish were aggressive. When I got to where they couldn't see me I could get some taps but no takers. I may try the C & O Canal Basin at Williamsport on my way home from work tonight if there's still some daylight about 7:30. Tried there a couple of times with no luck although I have seen several fishermen there at times.
  25. My son and I got out this past Sunday to Sharpsburg and Middletown Ponds. Saw some fish at Sharpsburg but no takers. Middletown was a waste...muddy water and seemed pretty chilly. We just cannot catch a break with the weatehr. When I'm off it seems it has just rained and when I'm working it's great. I'm guessing the largemouth spawn in some of these ponds is being stalled by the crazy weather. We also stopped and checked out our spot on the Potomac...water was OK in color but was really high and rolling. Looks like smallmouth spawn will be washed away this year just like last year was if I remember right. I am working 6 days this week so no fishing until this weekend. Speaking of weather hope everyone was able to remain safe with all these severe storms in our areas.
