  1. ok from what 'v found online seems like mi has only Gizzard shad, and it seems to me that most inland lakes do not have them. Just wondering if anyone from up north can confirm this. -Seeker
  2. what are these fish? some links to some freshwater shad pics would be cool. Not even sure if the lakes up here in mi have them, and if so what they look like and what habitats they prefer. thanks -Seeker
  3. I think Senkos are the softest and most flexible worms i have used, and i like how heavy they are; Though they break/tear easier then any of the other soft plastics i have used.... -Seeker
  4. where i fish(MI) i generally have alot of lilly pads around....thick lilly pads, they are usually 2-4 feet of water. I get alot of hits in the pads on my initial cast. but after that it's hard going. my poppers have a hard time getting through the really thick stuff(which is most of it). I just picked up some zoom toads and some yum toads. so my question is..other then these lures, what is good for sishing this kind of heavy cover? i know there are some nice bass hiding in them cause i'v seem them jump out of the water about 2 feet from shore....with 30 feet of lilly pads between me and the shore. sooo...suggestions, comments, tips.....pro advice is welcome thanks -Seeker
  5. get yourself some fireline. it wont break (well i haven't had mine break yet this summer) or just some decent mono....spiderwire sucks imo....it broke on me alot too. -Seeker
  6. watch the line a little closer, maybe reel in a bit more slack. Those hooks should be plenty big to lip nice size bass, if you set the hook reasonably quickly. -Seeker
  7. yea..grab some tiki sticks...or see if maybe your local bait shop sells some molded senko ripoffs... the bait shop by me does, and i like them better then tiki's... same price tho. senkos are expensive and tear easier then most plastics(they do work good tho) -Seeker
  8. thanks a bunch guys -Seeker
  9. hehe yea..i'v caught a hook or two in the hand...and i do carry needlenose tho i try not to horse the hooks too hard with the needlenose for fear of injuring the fish. if it's hooked in the mouth does that need to be a concern? -Seeker
  10. just wondered if you guys had any tips on removing treble hooks more quickly from fish. They seem to take me alot longer to get out then single hooks....more points, makes sense. Being the concerned fisherman that i am, i just thought you guys might have some tips to help me get the fish back in the water more quickly. thanks -Seeker
  11. i use it just to hold the plastic on the shank of my hook. never had much luck glueing plastics back together....usually when they are spent i'll just throw em in my bag then use em wacky rigged later. and yea when a fish finally does get the worm unglued from the shank of the hook you usually wanna scrape off the old glue...it's really easy with a little knife. might even be able to just leave it one...i just have always scraped it off. -Seeker
  12. 20 acre pond(hey, it's a pond in MI) 4.5 - 5 lbs trolling with a night crawler for panfish -Seeker
  13. yea PA i use swivels for basicly everything. It's easy and i havent had noticible problems(tho this last outing i had bought a couple topwaters to try and the hooks got caught 1 out of 7 casts) Being the newb that i am; i just thought i'd ask why this makes much of a diffrence? or maybe some links towards articles that talk about how tieing/swiveling affects action? thanks guys -Seeker
  14. i've tried the dollar store cheapy stuff a bunch...they were a pain to say the least(picture riggin plastics in the night with a new moon.) then i went to my local tiny fishing store and got some...i think it's quik-tite...or something like that. regular tube, no casing thing. and a cap that snaps on tight....haven't had a problem with it yet(It's almost gone. $2.00 tho 7Lbass's stuff sounds good -Seeker
  15. <~~~~caught a gill on a cigarette butt ...i was like 12. and lots on hot dog pieces lol -Seeker
  16. tho im not in a club, i probabally will join one next season. the dues are like 85 bucks/year. a: i am a newbie bass angler, fishing with experianced guys would be priceless. b: My local bass club pairs boat and non boat owners(as i am not a boat owner...yet). this is a great oppurtunity for me. i give props to any angling club that promotes information sharing and tries to bring people into the sport. Granted some of the clubs are a bit overly competitive for my taste....but there are all kinds out there. -Seeker
  17. hehe i thought trig was just a weedless worm for a while. i think the confusion was because some of the things i have seen online refer to it as such....like i have seen pics of "texposed" rigs where there was no weight. -Seeker
  18. wow thanks reb for the info..learned alot ya think the flourocarbon leader would help with the treble hooks? (maybe a best of both worlds type thing?)...or anyone else maybe that uses that combo? hehe i had no idea that the line stretch would affect hooksets diffrently with difrent hook/line combos. thanks alot -Seeker
  19. just wonderin if any of you guys have trolled for bass? last trip out we were fishing at a couple of our normal spots and not catching jack. Well it happened my gf was with us and she gets bored if we sit without catchign anything for an hour and a half or so. So we decided we'd troll around for a bit with a sinker and a night crawler(usually we'll do this for some nice panfish). We just rig up a panfish hook on the end of the line then a small gremlin lead clip on sinker about a foot and a half up form the hook. well this time we came across this one part of the lake....and within a two minute span both me and my buddy had decent bass on(14"+) i got to thinkin this might be a good way to find the bass when they arent hittin(and u dont have a fish finder)..at least in shallower water anyway. I was thinkin if we threw some bigger hooks on our line too we might be able to weed out the panfish/perch hits even more. just wonderin if any of you have done this and if it's helped you at all. Or any tips from any of you that have. thanks again -Seeker
  20. i was just gonna ask a question right along these lines(get off your no pun high horses!) i have used a couple of diffrent lines(multiple mono's and most recently vanish) i seemed to get alot of breaks(i fish alot of thick cover) and the vanish seemed to tangle very easy, and i dont really care for the stretch it has. my fav line i'v used so far is fireline flourescent, it's great for line watching...doesnt seem to tangle too badly on my med/heavy reel and it's strong as heck. i also like having the toughter line, seems feeling the lure/bottom is easier. i usually have used 8lb test. Also breakage hasn't seemed to be a big problem for me with fireline.....perhaps i just havent landed enough big boys on it? it just doesnt seem like many of u guys like fireline(or maybe it's braids in gen) since im a newb i'd like to ask why? Some pros and cons would help much Also i've een thinking of maybe using on of the flourocarbons as a leader....thoughts/opinions? thanks again guys -Seeker
  21. it's not quite fall yet bassingballer. Though it's comin quick....im also from mi and taking a fishing trip up to Houghton Lake in MI.....and it will be alot closer to fall So, yea...i ask the same question -Seeker
  22. upnorth? any idea if / how much the leader will discourage a bass from hitting? -Seeker
  23. thanks a bunch guys. think when i get paid friday i'll go get a heavier spinner and a jig. Think i might pick up a heavier weight for my crig too(the one i have been using is only 3 / 8) ....thinking that may help me cast it. Also the creg setup i have now is one of those ready made type things.....has a thick metal wire some plastic beads and the weight....it's only about an inch or so long. would i be better off just using the sliding weight and doing a regular crig? And forever made the comment about pike....yea they are fun to catch...put up a good fight. They are kinda tricky to get off the hook tho....those teeth are sharp! and they are slimy/smelly as hell...kinda like a salmon...cept worse. thanks again guys -Seeker
  24. if i go with either the crank or the spinner i think ill have to use a braided metal leader....i know the pike dont seem to mind this, but will the bass? i think theres alot more pike in the lake(large pond) then there are bass...every time i try a faster moving lure i seem to get pike hits...even when i try to work them slower. -Seeker
  25. i'v played with carolina rigged worms and lizards a bit, tho i cant cast it all that far....when i throw it alot of my momentum is lost because the worm and the sinker(3/8oz) slingshot each other around in a circle.. i've tried deep cranks too but pike always end up hitting it.. i was thinking maybe a lipless rank. the water depth is anywhere from 15ft to 25ft just looking for some suggestions of lures i should be able to cast far on my spinning gear and get it down relativly fast to explore the water....since i have no electronics i have to depend on manually finding the fish. I'm sure there have got to be some big ones deeper....i think i'v caught all the small ones in the shallows hehe also i was thinking weighting a senko might work. tips? suggestions, comments thanks again -Seeker
