You get here soon and you have a world of Bass fishing. Lake B is tough to learn. The Delta, Rancho Seco, Clear Lake and a gazillon ponds aren't as tough. I think your neighboring AF base, Beale has some good ponds that you can access. Maybe even of heard of a couple ponds at Travis. Got a tube or a toon? I can give you some ponds near Sac.

Rye Patch is a cool place and Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge is must do. Take bug spray and search out the hot springs. During this season I'm not so sure of either. Although if you aren't fishing, Ruby is still a great place to visit. To the locals or anybody in the know,after it warms back up how is Stillwater for bass.

What is the popular opinion of float tubes in the situation described? Are they spooked by a floating blob?

Joe Folsom is drying up pretty quick thanks to our wonderful water usage regulations and I don't think I have ever seen boat rentals there. A better bet might be Clear Lake. It's not that far from Folsom and I think you will have better luck both with renting a boat and putting fish in it.
