  1. temperature doesn't bother so much as wind does. I can deal with 40 degree, but 40 degrees and 20 mph winds is when I call it quits. However, the first day with no wind and you can find me fishing.
  2. Bullfrog........by far. Watermelon Red is a distant second place.
  3. The flats, fats, and the 16's are always on sale at the GM here, but they're awful color options. The "bread and butter" colors are never on sale and stay on the shelves while the fugly colors are the first to go in the bin. I picked up a few flats for around $3 a piece and some DTFAT01's for about $3 as well. I have caught a few nice fish with them.
  4. Take a paper hole punch with you and put a hole in their dorsal fin. However, I dont see any way to distinguish between 100 bass with holes in their dorsals effectively so I wouldn't bother trying to mark them. The best thing would be to have somebody from the DNR come out and recommend a plan for you.

  6. I was unaware of sattelite images that updated daily on google earth, could you post a link?
  7. I use a Pelican 1060 in bright yellow so that its easy to find if it goes overboard. Its large enough to carry my wallet, 2 cellphones, IPOD, keys, etc but still tuck up in the under-seat compartment in the boat. Pelican Case
  8. With no other information, I would suggest shallow water around wood or rocks, banging the lure off of the structure in the area.
  9. They make fantastic jigs at a great price. Their Premier jigs with OWNER hooks are super stout and have caught a lot of nice fish for me. Check out their hair jigs and mop-style jigs as well seeing how winter is right around the corner. All are hand tied with wire and hold up extremely well. Glad to see that you have had the same good experience with them that many others have had as well.
  10. Wire doesnt degrade like rubber, but the rubber collar allows you to change you skirt type and color much faster without the need to tie on a new lure.

so do most of you add the trailers to the hook or to the weedguard?
  12. Ive looked for a good article or thread on this. I have a few questions regarding jigging and braided line. 1) It is hard to feel a subtle strike using monofilament on my baitcaster so would braid be better for this application because I use that same rod and reel for crankbaits..? You won't believe how much more feel you get from braid. All of my T-Rigs and Jigs are fished with braid. If its clear water, I add a flourocarbon leader to it. In my opinion, and some might argue, braid and flouro dont have enough give in the line to allow crankbaits and other treble hooked baits to stay buttoned up in a fishes mouth so I dont use braid or flouro when fishing those styles of baits. 2) Can I just tie the braided line directly on to my jig or crank or do I have to tie flouro to my braid and then to my jig or crank? Straight braid is fine, especially in areas with lots of vegetation. In clear open water areas I will usually tie on a flouro leader for peace of mind. 3) Does PowerPro float(above 50lb test)? In my experiance, all power pro floats until it gets heavily saturated, and even then it still has a good amount of bouyancy. It will not sink like flouro if thats what you are wanting to know.
  13. Braid is great and EASY to cast. It has no memory and doesnt backlash near as bad. Dont worry about the braided line digging in, your 25lb should have roughly the same diameter as 8 lb mono, but a tad bit smaller. If you are worried about backlashes, make a single cast as far as you can (or just pull line out until you feel as though you have more line out than you would ever get out from casting), pull about 15-20 yards extra out and then put tape across the reel and wind your line back up. The tape will keep the line from digging in and greatly diminish the extent of any backlash that might occur during the process of learning how to operate a baitcaster. Braid is great, you'l be amazed at the sensitivity. Add a mono or flouro leader depending on the technique that you are using to aid in clear water fishing.
  14. Never rolled any owner tips, and I have never had any rust on them either. Not sure what happened with those hooks, Owners have always been top notch for me.
  15. It depends on the type of turtle. Some will eat fish, others will eat some of the vegetation. One thing for sure: If I see multiple turtles coming up for air in a specific area, I'll saturate that area with a jig and worm. In my experiance, where there are turtles, there's structure, and I will usually catch fish in that area.
  16. It has definately produced well for me, especially in the Magnum Fluke fished weghtless The other color that works really well of me is Arkansas Shiner, and a Silver color that I can't recall off of the top of my head.
  17. Great plastic! Use on weighted hooks, spinnerbaits, as swim jig trailers, etc. Basically everything mentioned above. Don't forget dead sticking and then ripping, works great.
  18. LMB....hope your dinner was good, sure looks like it was
  19. I used to identify a submerged laydown by locating a lodged 4/0 EWG Gammy with a beaver bait that I hung up in the top of one of the submerged limbs a while back. After 3-4 months, the water level dropped enough to where I could reach down and pull it out of the limb. The lure was shot, but the hook wasnt in horrible shape at all. The point was still sharp and the shank had VERY little oxidation. Quality hooks last a lot longer than people expect, its not like the Eagle Claw hooks of yesteryear that will rust through in a couple weeks.
  20. I contacted Humminbird, they were very helpful. Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.
  21. I purchased a boat recently that previously had a Humminbird Matrix 97 unit installed with GPS and depth finder. The unit did not come with the boat as it was taken prior to my purchase, but all of the wiring and accessories are still present and mounted on the boat. The Matrix 97 unit is discontinued so I would like to get a newer model humminbird unit but I don't know if the connections for the depth and GPS accessories are universal or if they differ across their product line. I will post a picture of the connections later today, but does anybody know whether or not the connections are universal? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!
  22. Ya'll are gonna laugh, but it works: Hot dog wieners 1 package of strawberry Kool-Aid Mix 2 cups of water for the entire package of kool-aid and pour into a plastic zip lock bag. Chop wieners into 1 inch pieces, put them in the plastic zip lock bag of strawberry koolaid, seal it tight then stick the zip lock bag in the refrigerator for at least 2 days so that the weiners can soak up the koolaid. Serve when ready
  23. Most of my worm fishing is done texas rigged, but the finnesse worm is a smaller worm and you lose a lot of action when you texas rig so I will nose hook it sometimes with a weedless octopus/circle hook. They are also great on drop shots.
  24. As far as worms are concerned, I usually fish the 10" variety. 8" bass have slammed it regularly so I don't worry about the worm being too big. If you average is 2-3 lbs, thats a decent average and nothing to be sad about.
