  1. neat, way to think outside the box and get it done, congrats!
  2. Arkie head jig and a flat bodied trailer like a chunk is a greater start lure to flip. Once you get decent, you will learn to flip most anything, even poppers.
  3. awesome, glad to read that you were successful.
  4. If you can find them, a Bomber Model B......FANTASTIC squarbill. They are expensive, but man they can bring them up sometimes. I've had multiple doubles with the Model B and love it!
  5. Flip it and pitch it. Its also good hopped along the bottom. If there are areas of matted vegetation on the top of the water, I will bring it across those matts of vegetation and let it fall off into the holes in the vegetation. Most of my nicer fish on that lure have come from that last method. good luck
  6. Quit trying so hard to sell something. If you look like a salesman and act like a salesman, the door is gonna get shut in your face like a salesman, or in this case the channel is gonna get switched. I've quit watching several shows because of that alone. It gets to the point where you dont even want to watch the show because its not a fishing show any more, its a 30 minute infomercial on Brand X Dont get me wrong, I know you have to make your sponsors happy but JEEEEEZ, be real for 5 minutes. If the product is good it will sell itself. The last thing I want to hear is "This lure seperated me from the pack and allowed me to win so-and-so tournament, ITS MONEY IN THE BANK!". To me, thats garbage advertising. The equipment I want is the equipment the pro will use when he's not busy trying to sell something, when he is actually out fishing. When watching a fishing show, I want to see you catch fish, and I want to see how you catch those fish, and that will sell me on your product. The proof is in the results, not in the talk.
  7. If the hook is in his mouth, its not snagging. Good on you for thinking outside the box and getting the fish to INHALE a hook. Job well done. If your worried about local wildlife officers giving you grief (which you shouldnt) then use a small jig as a wieght.
  8. Hindsight is 20/20 and its easy for people to condemn you after the fact saying you should have done this or you should have done that before ever getting in the water. Simple fact is, that wasn't your question so I wont bother adressing it. To anser your original question: "Should I have paddled?" Yes. If you had paddles available and the water you are fishing is a no-motor area, then the answer is obvious unless circumstances prevent you from paddling to shore safely.
  9. 1/2 oz Chrome with Blue Back
  10. I have multiple buzzbaits and some have clackers. I have not really noticed any difference in the catch ratio of buzzbaits w /a clacker vs those without. However, most of the bodies of water that I fish are private and get little pressure so I dont know if that has anything to do with the fish being less selective and more aggressive. I know there is another topic on buzzbaits that has some great information within it, but I didnt want to steal thunder from that thread over a simple question like this: For those that use clackers and non-clacker buzzbaits, do you ever notice times when the bass will hit one or the other? Did water clarity play the more important role in that situation? If no, what do you feel was the determining factor in the bass preferring one over the other? Thanks for any and all information.
  11. Nice catch, Backwater makes some nice jigs that catch fish!
  12. ZOOM Horny Toad is killer for me. I was really interested in trying the YUM Money hound since they are $1.99 at the local retailer, but I guess they are on clearance for a reason, lol.
  13. Big Bertha...always Big Bertha
  14. what lure are you using? Try using a bigger lure.
  15. WOW, great sunnies Chris!
  16. Like mentioned above, I will not spend a lot on soft plastics. I hate to spend more than 5 bux on a bag of plastics and try hard to avoid doing so. If you purchase 6 Soft Plastics for 5 bux, and catch two fish per plastic, then your paying roughly .41 cents per fish. If you purchase one crank for 5 bucks and catch 12 fish, you are basically even. Retie your knots, get a plug knocker, and your cranks can see upwards of 75-100 fish or more. The key to cashing in on cranks is to have a good plug knocker and retieing your knots when you need too.
  17. The bellies, to me, are tooooooooooo white and start too high up on the body. Maybe its just me, but I dont recall ever catching a bass that "bright". Otherwise the paint looks great!
  18. 4 basics: Watermelon Green Pumpkin Junebug Redbug
  19. DT10, AWESOME lure and catches fish! Bandit 300 is good as well.
  20. Just the opposite BassmanDan.
  21. Green Sunfish are what you dont want. They have voracious appetites and don't grow very large. They will outcompete the regular bluegills, redear's and pumpkinseeds for forage and never get to a good size. If you don't mind taking the time to clean little guys, they are good table fare.
  22. Its a bluegill. Its not a green sunfish: mouth to small, no yellow/green line of dilineation around fins, body to tall, etc In the south, all sunfish get called bluegill, perch, brim, bream, etc. Though incorrect, they all mean the same thing down here. If you want to really get specific, its true scientific name is: Jugging Baiticus
  23. Glad to see you back Catt. I look forward to reading your always helpful posts and replies.
  24. Prices on them have dropped to around 6.99 down here. I'm assuming that is nationwide but I could be mistaken.
