  1. Its a good solid bait that deflects off of structure well. I prefer the Helsinki Shad. Its well made and holds up to abuse. Try a search for DT Thug.
  2. Used to be AOY for me, but now, I think the person that has the most points at the end of the regular season would be the most presigious spot in my books. Thats the person who fished the top of his game for the longest, and spent the most time at the top throughout the year. The person that can consistantly do that is the best angler, and that to me is the most prestigious spot to be.
  3. Looking for a reputable guide on Lake Fork. What are some you your recommendations and experiences?
  4. Nope, mine go after hogs. I can't remember the guys name, but he has a TV show about fishing, and he takes his lab with him on the boat wherever he goes and the lab just sits up on the deck relaxing the whole time. Pretty neat. If my dogs did want to go fishing with me, it would only be in hopes that they could sit next to the tackle bag and eat all the worms out while I wasn't looking.
  5. Owners. They come sharp, and stay sharp, fish after fish after fish. Owner, Gammy, then Mustad
  6. its just my opinion, but if the fish has time to sit and think abnout it, or follow it for any distance, then it is not a reaction strike. A reaction strike to me is when the fish first sees it, then immediately hits it. There is no thought process other than "get it" that goes through the fish's pea sized brain. When you see a fish trail a buzz bait for a second or two before hitting it, that to me is not a reaction strike. The bass is following it contemplating whether or not to strike it, and then decides to. If he came out of nowhere and smacked it , thats a reaction strike to me. But again, just my opinion.
  7. Owners and Gammy's for me. Although, several of the jigs I use have Mustad hooks in them and they have held up very well.
  8. if you have a lot of timber, check out coffin-billed or square-billed cranks. they come through timber A LOT easier.
  9. I have had fish hit my lure before it hits the water, but that has only happened a couple times and usually with a Horny Toad. I previously made multiple casts to a spot, and I am assuming the bass knew it was coming. As the frog was falling, and about an inch above the water, the bass exploded on it right before it landed.
  10. in spring and early summer most of my hits are reaction hits. Right now though, I am not getting any reaction hits. I am mainly fishing worms and jigs, with the occasional chatter bait, spinner bait, or crank. Every fish I have caught off of the CB, SB, or Cranks lately have been trailing trailing the lure from a distance before striking, in which case I don't consider that a reaction strike. From early spring to early summer, and through fall as well, the fish hit those three lures hard and fast, and generally from short distances. That's what I consider a reaction strike. However, in summer (right now) i usually have to coerce them into taking a lure, and reaction strikes are few and far between.
  11. Jig or 10" worm. Color really hasnt been an issue.
  12. I use 20-30lb braid to keep my line diameter down which I believe helps me with the line size issues. For flipping or pitching to waters less than 10 feet deep though, I generally use a bait caster, I just prefer spinning for long casts into deep waters. Like when fishing from a bank that has a steep/deep drop off a few feet out from the bank.
  13. I have noticed that not many people use spinning gear when it comes to jigs of any substantial size (jig>3/8). I like a spinning combo for skipping jigs under docks or laydowns, and also for getting a vertical drop at long distances. I like to be able to cast my jig at least 100 feet and have it drop straight down instead of swinging back to me, and the spinning combos allow me to do that with ease. Is there a reason why more people don't use spinning gear for jigging, or do most people find it easier to skip a jig or get sheer vertical drops at a good distance with a bait caster? Just curious what everybody's thoughts are on the subject.
  14. After quite a bit of research, I purchased a Falcon Original rod, but now I am doubting my purchase. The rod is: FS-6-17 Falcon Original Lizard Dragger Spin 15-25 lb., 3/8 - 1 oz., 7' I like the feel of it, though I havent attached a spinning reel to it yet. It is designed for carolina rigging, but I want it for jigging. I jig in areas with little brush or cover, no milfoil, hydrilla, or other junk, and mostly on ledges. A fellow I spoke with mentioned that you could easily use the rod interchangably and it should do well with a jig as well, specifically the 5/8 that I would be using it for. Was I misinformed, or do you think there would be a noticable difference if I were to use it for jigging instead of carolina rigging?
  15. Ribbon tail worms. They have always produced for me so I have never bothered trying a different kind. I'm sure there are plenty others that would work equally well on my waters, but I havent had the need to try them so I havent.
  16. Largest LMB ZOOM Horny Toad Second Largest LMB Berkley 10" Worm
  17. stiffy, stroker, and moaner. I wonder what was on their mind when they came up with those names :-?
  18. Berkely 10" Power Worm in Junebug on a flat nose bullet weight. The secret is in how its presented ZOOM Ol Monster in Redbug on a flat nose bullet weight. The secret is in how its presented, just like the worm above KaRu Vibrashock w/ ZOOM Fat Albert Grub, not many people know of it.
  19. I can agree with this, but I think it would be the additional strong taste that the scent adds to the lure, and not the smell of the scent it self, that keep the fish attached longer. But I am not a fish so I will never know. However, RW, I do feel that if a fish was to bite a lure with a scented dip or paste (something that attaches a strong scent/taste to a lure), that the fish will definately hold on longer. Anything that will get a fish to hold on longer is a plus in my book. Just not sure if it will bring more fish to the lure.
  20. The ZOOM's catch fish, plain and simple. I have never found the need to add scent, but then again, it could have helped if I had added it and I just never knew.
  21. Chatterbaits work. The dirtier the water, the better, atleast in my experiance. There are lots of good ones, and quality ones do out perform lesser quality ones and will last longer. The original chatterbait, karu's vibrashock, and zmans all seem to do well. I prefer karu's, they take a beating and keep catching fish.
  22. I use a few that have been mentioned, more specifically the Booyah sim'n jig, but I have the most success with the KaRu Poisontail with a ZOOM Fat Albert Grub. Comes through weeds pretty good.
  23. Just signed up, been needing to for a while. Its worth it simply because I buy every BM magazine when it hits the shelves. This way Im saving money and getting a bag. Glad that somebody posted this up.
  24. I have a Tilley hat that I always have to wear. If i get to the water and Im not wearing it, I dont expect much of a day
  25. SoFlBassAddict I have that exact same jig, but have a YUM Money Minnow (white with black back) attached as a trailer. It works very well for me on occasion.
