  1. I don't have a picture, however, it looks more like a minnow, slender with two treble hooks. This guy removed the front treble hook that came on it originally and replaced it with the next bigger size. He said it mahes the head kind of stay closer to the bottom while it is suspending, making it seem injured.
  2. I have searched nearly everywhere I know to look for a small suspending rapalla. Size 4 , I met a guy that fishes where I do reguarly and have seen him catch numerous nice sized smallies with it. He said it was years old but it works awesome! Any suggestions. The size is really important. I dint mind if it is rapalla name brand, just want that type of bait.
  3. Hello all. I am fishing elkhorn creek and haven't had much luck at all with any kind of bass. I have seen smallies caught this year and have seen them in the water, however my tactics have proven to be unsuccessful. I fish a very large dam spillway as well as from my kayak, both are spots that are rarely fished because not too many pol know about them, and this creek is very well known to be very abundant with nice sized smallmouth and largemouth bass. Any suggestions on baits and how to present them from a kayak as well as around the dam would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for all your help.
  4. I was fishing this huge creek dam in my area... Robinson's Dam in KY. I was walking on the dam, fishing behind it (water flowing toward me) by the corner of it where there are a bunch of trees submerged. The water was very clear and this old man I met there had hooked onto 2 and 3 pounders multiple times off dark green tubes. After he tells me that, I turn arround and look below, just out to the left toward me from where the water from the dam is crashing down, and see 2-3 mega bass which appeared to be smallmouths as well. They were probably 4 or 5 pounders easy. I am not a good judge past 2lbs, i just don't have that experience yet but i want it. What advice do you have for me fishing this hole and what baits seem to work best? I have access to a lot of different types of worms, lizards, tubes, rapalla's including x-runner's, topwater frog, mepps 1,2 and 3's, Rooster Tails, GYCB swimsinko's, GYCB grubs(a nice assortment), Rage Green Punkin space monkey, Bass Magic swimbait minnows, Gulp Alive craw dads, gulp bait galore and more. I am just a beginner though with artificial bait so I have a pretty wide varitey. The dam is aprox. 150 square yards. Pretty large, but plenty of room to stay all day long. The water is fairly clear but would like advice on muddier situations as well. I have access to multiple dams of this size from the same creek and fish it from a cone often with a small trolling motor. Thanks for all your help!
  5. I know nothing about rattle traps except the colors on the 2 that I have. When and where do you cast them? What times of year? Clear water or muddy? I try them in all but would like to know when seems to work best. I also am not sure that I retrieve them. I cast it out and reel back fairly fast. I don't make any action with my rod. Any tips on rattle traps would be wondermus!!
  6. Thanks a bunch, I have never given rapala's a fair shot to see what they can do, but I am going to now. I just about bought the one with the colors you were talking about, and will probably get it soon because those are the colors that produce most for me on the creek anyway. Thanks! What size fish do you catch with those?
  7. I usually fish in a large creek that has multiple large dams built in to control level. I personally have no luck just before the water flows over the dam, but have had most of my luck right where the water flows over the dam down into the next part of the creek. Nothing massive yet, but I have caught numerous smallmouth off roostertail's. The structure the lies before the water flows over is really gonna make the big difference on where to fish though, I would just wait it out and test the flow speed and the beneath structure, i never just omit a fishing hole, especially when one half of it is extremely productive. Good luck! Hope I have helped a little!
  8. Very nice! What were you using?
  9. Hello, I usually fish the Elkhorn Creek in Georgetown, Ky. It runs through Frankfort as well. If you live in Georgetown, could you comment on some other nice places to fish, What are the best baits to be using right now? Where seems to be the best activity? What about fishing the ponds on the golf courses here? I've heard anyone can go there and that no one cares. I have heard that they have been producing very well. Thanks for any advice. I do have a canoe so anywhere remotely close that is nice fishing, let me know please!
  10. I just got the following Rapalla's and wonder how to use them and when to use them. I am unsure the proper way to retrieve them. Fast, slow, medium, what really seems to work best with these things. I have never had a whole lot of luck off of them but a few different friends have strongly suggested I equip my arsnal with a few of them and these are the ones I picked out. They swear they are great producer's. Any advice you have on the matter would be great. I will be using them on a large creek, but first will be using them on a small lake. I like smallmouth the best but i am not picky. Thanks for the advice Rapala X-Rap XR-8 Dark to light minnow with red tail Rapala X-Rap XR-6 Clear, orange chin, white tail Rapala Jointed Shad Rap JSR-5 silver minnow color Cotton Cordell Super Spot Red/Brown Craw Color
  11. HOW DO YOU USE THE GULP WORMS. I HAVE PLENTY OF THOSE. WHAT RIG WORKS BEST? BE SPECIFIC BECAUSE I DONT KNOW HOW TO RIG THEM ALL THANKS.
  12. How do you control depth in a pond/lake using a grub? is it by speed of retrieve or the weight? or both? how do I learn the balance?
  13. Are grubs good in ponds and lakes too? What seems to work best in lakes? I am going to be fishing a small lake from time to time till the creek clears up a little. and could use any advice you could give. Thanks again!
  14. The creek I fish in is FULL of character, therefore has rocks and trees all along the bottom. Grubs get lost really often, is that normal or is there a special way to rig a grub, and fish it effectivly, to make it weedless? Any other tips for fishing with grubs is welcome. I am taking the advice of the two from the previous thread about the gycb grubs and thank them for it!
  15. I have never had any luck with artificial worms, however, I have a wide varity of them. Any tips? All I have are Gulp leaches, and powerworms. various colors. How do I rig them for big creek fishing and what colors seem to do best? Also, what kind of rig's would you prefer? How do you rig those kinds. I have a canoe with a trolling motor that I use every chance I get, this is mainly the only place I fish. Thanks !
  16. Thanks a bunch! By the way, my dog Diesel, looks just like yours! Ours is a husky/bullmastiff mix. We rescued him at 6 weeks and 8lbs, 1 1/2 yrs later he is 76lbs, and loveable as ever!
  17. I fish in Elkhorn Creek that runs through Georgetown and Frankfort, KY mostly, from my trusty canoe! There are a lot of great smallie's in this creek, it is actually known for its smallmouth population, supposedly the best in the SE US. Anyway, I have been having a lot of luck on some smaller grubs, however, ALL of them haven't been that big, but a few were 2 - 2 1/2 lbs. each. I wonder how the bigger grubs would do. I am new to artificial bait, and would love any tips you could give me. How do you regularly use grubs, how do you rig them? Remember, I am in a creek, might as well be a river though but it is fairly shallow (3-8 ft deep) in most parts that I travel. I also often wade it and do fairly well. Thanks for all the help guys and have a great day fishin! ;D
