  1. Fortunately skunks don't rear their ugly heads (or perhaps I should mention the other end) often. My biggest concern though is whether the day's catch lives up to my expectations.
  2. Humbling to say the least. It seems that no matter how brilliant, rich, poor, or ignorant a person is, that @#$%^ C-Word takes pity on nobody. Hard to say how many innovations are lost with his passing.
  3. Maybe they have the same payroll clerk, and he just sobered up!
  4. Sometimes its more than inches. When mine broke at this spring's roadtrip, I ended up with a cord that was just a little over 12" long. That was rather interesting when trying to pull up the motor in rough water. I didn't have a spare then, but I've got one now.
  5. In the shop my wife works at, texting is the way many employees spend their days rather than trying to hit production quotas! Seems most of the supervisors can only notice when a cellphone is held up to an ear, but don't find anything strange about employees staring at the floor half the day. Personally, I'm still plugging away with an old Nokia phone that can't take pictures, can't get internet, text, play music, play games, or anything besides being used as an actual phone. It does have the option to turn off the ringer though, which I find quite useful!
  6. I've owned both brands, and have used both cable steering and power drive models. I'd look at what type of usage the motor would get first. I prefer the cable steer models for bass fishing as they are faster to respond to changing direction than a power drive. If he will be trolling more often then the power drive option is nice whether it's corded or remote controlled. You may even want to consider a hand controlled unit as long as you pair it with a foot controlled power switch. Buy as much thrust as you can afford, dollar and battery wise. You'll never regret the added power. Finally, buy an extra cable if you go with cable steering, and an extra pull rope for any model. The cost is minimal, and either repair is very easy to do.
  7. The young man that ended up with my old Ranger (17' 335v Commanche) uses it for duck hunting! No paint job involved, but a frame made from plastic pipe placed on top of the boat with camo draped over the frame right down to the water. It works for him.
  8. Thanks Catt! I saw this subject earlier but decided to save the time of posting a long detailed reply until you had the chance to chime in. Like many subjects, I can add very little. In this case, that would be a lesson I heard many years ago from one of the touring pros of the time. His take on how to teach a beginning worm fisherman was for the angler to learn what the bait felt like when no bite occured. Anything different from that feeling required a hookset.
  9. Would this be a good time to mention the Wolverines & Buckeyes?
  10. Hey Steve, your shirt changed color. What kind of water where you swimming in? Nice nice looking gals you caught though.
  11. My guess would be that the color change goes along with a change in content of the soil. Though I can't see them, if there are rocks present where the color change occurs, it could be outcroppings of gravel surrounded by softer soils. They could also be areas that just haven't been covered over by silt. You may want to discuss this with any residents that lived there during the time of the draw down of the lake to see if they remember anything about it. Regardless, if it does represent a change in bottom content, it would pay to try to work the edge if it become reachable.
  12. In a tournament, the first thing you need to do is to understand that everyone is fishing under the same conditions. Keep a positive attitude. Then do exactly what Catt said!
  13. I was just getting over the mental picture of the differences between Paris, France and Paris, MI/KY/TX or whatever state was the target of the day. At least until you posted this. Thongs A Lot!
  14. Aches and pains are the pits, but it doesn't hold a candle to having to go under the knife! Thanks for putting all of my small <graded on the curve> problems that I've been whining about lately into a new light. Hope you get on the mend soon!
  15. Yeah, I can see you pitching tight to cover using only one eye and no depth perception!
  16. This issue has nothing to do with the kid, and everything to do with the long history of schools and their coaches that try to justify their supposed greatness by running up the score in lopsided contests. Every type of mercy rule finds its roots there. Back in history (early 1990's)I can remember UM pounding the University of Houston in a lopsided football game. It was funny to hear the Houston coach whining about UM running up the score when the very next week Houston scored something like 70 unanswered points against a Div-II school. Hopefully the kid recognizes that his talent isn't something so special that he falls into the trappings that might await him in the near future. Hopefully his future coachs realize it too.
  17. No doubt about it, you've got a leak somewhere. First places I would look is to see whether the current drain plug is secure. Next check all of the plumbing for the livewells to see if a hose or fixture is the problem. The last problem could be loose rivets or a problem with one of the seams. My guess given the age of the boat, is that you have a leak around the drain plug or somewhere in the livewell system. Make sure the plug fits tightly and that all of the other thru-hull fixtures are snug and have a good bead of sealant around them. The best way to check this out would be to dry the bilge area completely, and then watch the area after launching. From the way you describe it, the leak is sever enough that you should find the problem fairly fast.
  18. And I'll bet you thought TW had everything you could ever want!
  19. So kid, when you putting all your fishing stuff up for sale? Don't be spending your college fund for this auction! http://entertainment.ha.com/common/search_results.php?N=53+793+794+792+4294954320
  20. I'm impressed that you and Aaron were both able to shift your gaze over to that handgun! It wasn't until the second time I looked at that picture that I noticed the red tip, a dead giveaway for a toy. Also, if you look at her hands, check out how her left thumb is sitting on the slide. As Chris Farley would've said; "That's going to leave a mark!".
  21. Happy Birthday RW! Hope you're having a great day.
  22. X2 right back at ya, she's cute as the dickens. But what's wrong with that picture?
  23. I hope you're taking a few of those Walters home for the frying pan. Scary thought, but maybe your best chance to take a picture of one of those "Dwight-Sized" smalljaws would be if your wife caught it. Get that lady in the boat!
  24. The only sad part of this contest will be all of the people flying through countless pages of articles looking for that little icon, and never reading a word contained in any of them!
