  1. I Just had my first day of tossin' swimbaits yesterday, and am rather disappointed :-[ I had a few "bumps", and a full hearted strike on a Berkley Hollowbelly 4" swimbait in Hitch color, but couldn't hook up > The top of the head has ripped up, as my 10lb mono cut the plastic on the first hookset. It continued to work for another 100 casts, maybe more, but I had to re-rig it many times :-/ When should I set the hook. I had it rigged with the included weighted swimbait hook. I also had problems riggin' the bait. The lead on the hook shank ripped the head :'( When do I set the hook, and how do I rig this thing Any help would be appreciated. I am tossin' this on a 6'6" Medium action baitcasting rod, with 30lb mainline and a 3-1/2-4 foot leader of 10lb mono, though I'm gonna go over to my 7ft 1pc medium light spinning rod fir better casting distance
  2. And I was wonderin' how I missed the start of this thread.....................LOL. J/K
  3. Sorry , I was up a little tired :
  4. On the contrary, I doubt that a 12 year old has the patience to throw swimbaits or large worms, and jigs aren't exactly the best learnin' tools either.....................Just my two cents.
  5. Thanks again!! Really helpful And cool
  6. Try some small spinnerbaits and 4 inch finesse worms. These baits catch alot of smaller fish, but a 12year old just wants to catch fish If he likes it ( and he WILL ), upgrade to 7'' worms, toss in a couple poppers, a wakebait, and maybe a few senkos. Make sure ya don't keep him out to long, as he'll get bored :-[ Try a one on one tourny or two. It'll add more excitement
  7. X2!! I've heard a lot 'bout those stores, but I can't get to one. And ya can't order over the internet!!!!!
  8. Thanks for the heads up!!!
  9. X2!!!!!!!! Man, I'm stoked 'bout a four pounder!!!
  10. Thanks I will just be usin' what came in the package, and fishin' it in HEAVEY weeds. Thanks for the tips though 8-) Will definetly keep that in mind Anybody else wanna speak up ?
  11. The bags shouldn't take up that buch room. Just fold 'em up and stick 'em some where outta the way. Just make sure ya got 'em on hand for that hog!!!!
  12. Isn't the Shad a bit unrealistic for subsurface work? Also, Won't a shad color be out of order and a bit unsuccesful for ponds :-?
  13. Thanks
  14. Thanks for the help guys I just had a day with more stikes, no hook-ups :-[ I would let the fish take out the slack, but as soon as the slack was out, the fish would spit the frog before I could set the hook :-/ I set the hook fast, but no fish........AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Yet so true!!!
  16. Thanks
  17. Sounds like an interesting strategy : Actually, it sounds like it would work pretty well if it didn't spook the fish. An ounce and a quarter of led slammin' the water after fallin' thirty feet would make an interesting noise
  18. How do you guys rig these? Side ways, with the hook slot, or through the bulk of the plastic? Probally a newbie question :-[ but I've never fished 'em..........
  19. Anybody have any tips on fishin' these? I'll be throwin' the 4'' Hitch color on a 6'6" medium action baitcaster with 30lb. braid mainline with a 10lb mono leader. Any tips?
  20. Wally World in Alliance, Ohio
  21. They'e havin' a sale on ragetails. 1.00 a pack :o don't miss it!!
  22. Try an Eagle Claw Weedless hook, like the ones you see at Wally-World wih the wire weedguard. They have a nice long shank. Otherwise, I've done good with your standard widegap gammy.
  23. Thanks guys!!! I have to make up my mind................. Guess I won't know 'till checkout time :
  24. Happy it works for ya........just sorta seem not to get the bites :'(
