  1. No, You will be promptly arrested upon proceding to fish firetails in clear water. Touche'. But really, it don't seem right...........................
  2. Good Job!!!! Always nice to catch some nice 'uns, and to be out with your dad
  3. The day was slow except for the morning', so I'll only cover that, but its enough!!! I started throwin' a Berkley Hollow Belly swimbait with no bites, so I decide to change. Out comes the Rage Tail shad, rigged weightless on 30 pound braid, thrown on a 6'6" medium action baitcasting setup. We are s-l-o-w-l-y pass a weed bed, and I make several casts to it. Now the sun is up, so I can't expect to much. Around my 15th cast (guestamint), I get a huge blow-up around 12 feet from the weed bed. I figured the fish would miss the bait, as the blow up was huge. I set the hook and BAM!! Fish on!! I tell the other guys in trhe boat I got a fish, and one asks if its a big 'un. "I don't know," I said. Then the fish jumped. Until know I had expected a nice 5lber. Boy was I ever wrong. I caught a glimpse of a MUSKIE jumping three foot out of the water!!!!! I yell "ITS A MUSKIE!!!," and then settle into the fight. For some reason I just settled down inside, and started calmly fightin' the fish. Really. He fools around a bit and comes under the boat. One of my fishin' buddies says "Keep him away from the motor," but I tell him not to worry, I got it under control. The fish just kinda sulks under he boat, so I pump him as best I can, try to give him no time to rest. Suddenly that fish makes a hard run under the boat. Really just pullin' HARD. Then the fish jumps on the other side of the boat. THAT rattled me. But he came back under the boat, and I played him a bit more. He then netted nicely. Great. I just landed a WHALE of a 'ski, and I got nowhere NEAR what I need to deal with this thing. I set to un hookin' him with a pair of 8" needle nose, wonderin' how I can cast without a few digits. Every time I'd grab the hook and try to pop it out, the fish would thrash ALL over the boat. Interesting enough under ideal conditions, but very "exciting" in a boat with three people. I finally get the hook to pop out of its original spot, but now its lodged in another part of he mouth. AAAUUGH!!! I finally get this brute un-hooked, and then things get better!! I have no way to control this beast, its mad, hurt, outta water, and has a nice set of teeth. Yeah HAAA!!! Anyways, long story short, I take care of the fish and re-rig. My braids a little nicked, but not bad. I cut some off any way, put on my last shad, and next cast TWANG!!! By-by shad, hook, and 10 feet of line........... Boy what a mornin'. The fish came out at 38-1/4", 16-1/2" girth. What a time. I've never had that much power on the end of a line before, at leas not that I know of..........
  4. Dude, those are just SICK!!! I like the double color. Have you ever thought of a shiner fron, crappie back, or the like?? Just curious.......
  5. Nice fish!! Love those Torpedos!!!!! Also, when you missed the fish, did they spit the bait before you set the hook, or did you just miss 'em?? If you just missed 'em, they mighta been dinks.......Mighta been. But ya got a good three pounder there!!!!
  6. Your not kiddin'. Those dark clearwater bass are great. Especially with the red flairing gills............ Endless, thats a nice fish. Also, as for the hula popper, at least you didn't get hooked. I had a floatin' minnow come back at me bearin' three size eight gammys. Stuck one in my middle finger......... Anyways, great fish. Did it do some acrobatics????
  7. Dude, first fish?? Yikes!! I get stoked over a fish that sized anyday. But first bass....................YEOW!! Great Job!!! As for the other fish swimmin' with her, that could definatley mean the fish were schoolin', or at least concentrated under the docks. Get out there and catch the others!!! Great Fish!!!!
  8. You'll LOVE the forum. The guys on here are great!! Ya'll got some HAWGS down there in North Carolina!! I'm gettin' back down there sometime. I *** your fishin', not your weather. ;D But seriously, sit back and grab some snacks. You won't want to move for days!!!!
  9. For those hawgs that you're BOUND to catch on trebled lures, don't swing 'em. Wear 'em down, then pull 'em near the bank, place your hand under the fish, right under its stomach, and lift it out of the water. The fish should remain calm until you can get the hooks out. Then, grip and grin!!!!
  10. Hello Good to see yet another person join the forum!!! Just beware, as it is ADDICTING!!!! BassResource.com is not responsible for lack of sleep, but is responsible for great laughs, great friends, great tips, and more!!! Good to have ya!!!!!
  11. You need a reason to go fishin' :-? Ya learn somethin' new every day......... LOL, J/K. Seriously, welcome aboard Oh, BTW. Good luck and tight lines
  12. Try crankin' a Storm SubWart, or a Mann's 1-Minus. These are great wakebaits, but they work good for crankin' overtop of or into cover. I've used the Sub-Wart, and my fishing partner has used the Mann's, and we've both done good. Send me a pm and I'll see if I can tie you up some feathered/hair trebles, as they add more action to the bait. I can't promise anythin', but I'll try
  13. I'd like to pubically thank you for not highjackin' the other firetail thread. Its appreciated, and you've got my respect. Thank you. Now, back to your question
  14. Heres the Berkley worms I havehttp://www.***.com/descpageSFWBERKLEY-BPW.html#pImage
  15. Sorry.............
  16. Thanks!!
  17. Thanks 8-) I'll give crankin' a try I will do it in shallower water, say 2-6/7 ft Anything else :-? So far I have: Cranks, T-Rigged plastics, spinnerbaits, and jigs. Choices, choices Keep 'em comin'. I got 12 hours ;D LOL. Thanks for the help guys, really
  18. I was diggin' through my box, and found a bag of Berkley 7" Power Worms in pumpkin/chartreuse tail. I also have a bag of "Rattlesnake" Tournament Series 7.5" worms. Will these work I've always strayed from fire tails, as I think they're not natural, but these are kinda buggin' me So...........Can I fish these in decently clear, pressured waters :-?
  19. Hello and hope you find some spots. Try out that park that was mentioned. Ponds are like diamonds, small yet beautiful Also, from a nut.................O-H
  20. Howdy
  21. Sorry if I over-did it :-[ J/K Thanks for the advise. Its appreciated
  22. I'm goin' out tomorrow and am stuck on what to be fishin'. We had a cold front come through a couple days ago :'(, and today we had typical post-frontal skies . You know, the high fluffy, scattered clouds against a bluebird sky. Pressure was also evident, as every cloud seemed to have a bottom flat as a pancake. Well about 12:30 p.m. cloud cover moved in and its now overcast. What should I be fishin'? Power ;D, finesse , somwhere in between :-? I really don't know. BTW, the front was a big 'un, as the air temp dropped around 10-12 degrees. Good for me :, not the fish :-/ So, what should I fish??????? Oh, I'll mostly be fishin' laydowns.
  23. Only a true fisherman....................
  24. I figured if I can get good hooksets on worms with a 7ft. ML, I could get 'em with a swimbait rigged the exact same way on a 6'6" Medium...................... Also, OOPS!! I guess I'll try to rig 'em the way you said. Never threw softies 'afore :-[
  25. So I find I'm goin' fishin' last Friday, and so I start gettin' my stuff ready for the trip. I have been havin' a bit of a problem with one of my spinnin' reels, so I take it apart to oil it. NUTS!! The main gear is STRIPPED (and YES, I take VERY good care of my equipment) > That could explain a few things....... I had just re-spooled this reel and was not even at my house :-/ I run to my house, grab a back-up reel, and come back to my home base. I take the line off the broken reel and spool it onto my back-up reel. Get the rest of the stuff ready and try to get some sleep. Next mornin' I'm on the lake and start tossin' a swimbait. I got a few bites, but couldn't hook up :-[ I remember I didn't change my drag after adding a mono leader to my braid on the rod I was throwin' the swimbait on, so I check it. Hmm........Its not very tight. I crank it up and try it again. Still the same. I crank the drag ALL the way up. Its still the same :'( So I've got two broken reels, and I'm down to 1 usable rod with me ( I only took two) . I fish all day, and end up with a total of six fish. HOWEVER, it was a great day, as one of those fish was a FIVE POUNDER!!!! I landed him on 10lb. mono, a ML 7ft spinning rod, and a whole lotta adrenilane:D He almost snapped my rod twice. He dove under the boat, and I couldn't control him!! Had to open my bail twice to keep my rod from bein' snapped on the boat, and finally landed him. I practised C P R, but the guy I was fishin' with forgot to save the pic. The fish was 19-1/4" long with a 14" girth. It had a tail stickin' outta its throut, and about every 6 seconds the fish ( the five pounder) would shake. The fish it had just eatin' was still alive!! Either that or fresh enough to have nerve "shivers". What a trip. Anyway, I found out later that my fishin' partner saw how bad the first half of my day was and prayed that I'd catch some fish and a big 'un. Prayers ARE answered!!!!
