  1. I say all the time once you get north of $300 you should at least consider custom. Either way, I generally reserve the highest modulus blanks for finesse techniques, usually spinning tackle.
  2. I build a lot of both and concur with ww2 for the most part. I don't find the 4 to be a pool cue however it is powerful.
  3. To failed to clarify: I am still doing quotes and taking rod orders. thanks again
  4. Hi everyone, We're on the cusp of some exciting changes in our business and as a result I'm not able to take any reels for service at this time. Anything here or in transit will be handled with the care you've come to expect. I'm available for consultation and any assistance I can offer. I'm not going anywhere. More to follow Thanks! Mike
  5. How about the spacer on the other side under the spool bearing? Has to be one or the other. Give me a shout if you want.
  6. Line ratings on a freshwater rod are next to useless. Use even a modicum of common sense and you'll be fine.
  7. You're putting too much emphasis on spinning vs casting. Concentrate instead on matching baits of a particular weight with the right power rod. Whether you choose casting or spinning tackle is your preference.
  8. Sorry I meant that for the OP who used Med as an action.
  9. Seems that way to me. The gears aren't 1:1 so... All I've got is an opinion same as the other guy and not going to run anyone down. I just can't see this.
  10. You're mixing terms. Check out the rod characteristics article in the forum library
  11. Probably a prototype or old skeet revo
  12. This true of some oscillator gear sets but not all and not main/pinion gears. If you get oscillator gears out of sync you'll feel a tick or tight spot at the top or bottom of the stroke.
  13. The fervor for light weight has come at a cost: the nearly silent smooth operation of reels like the OG Zillion and D series Shimanos. There's nothing mechanically wrong with your reels but the over packed grease has been broken in and/or cleaned out allowing minor vibrations to be felt or heard. Deep cleaning and lubrication can minimize the symptoms but the over lubrication from the factory actually hurts performance.
  14. What you've described are not junk reels. Sounds like a mix of unrealistic expectations and either incomplete or inadequate maintenance practices. Granted, I have very limited background information if you'd like to email me I'll be happy to help all I can.
  15. Buy another guide and wrap it on the appropriate location.
  16. They're just a little different. Neither is any better built than the other.
  17. I use SS ring guides successfully in light duty applications but never the tip top. Just replace the tip and the rest should be fine.
  18. Spend the money and get a pair of Simms. They. One in a broader range of sizes. All mine were too long or too tight. Worse case go larger
  19. Any increase in breakage stories can be attributed to internet usage. More stories doesn't necessarily equate to more breaks. In addition to that you have televised tournaments and YouTube showing explicitly how NOT to handle a rod (or a fish for that matter).
  20. I think the newer materials and weaves make a difference as well as ring materials. To date, I've never grooved a guide or had a build returned for repair of grooved guides.
  21. Modern braids and guides will not harm each other at all. Its actually the sediments picked up by the old braid that caused problems with some low end guides.
  22. No, a momentary dunk in clear water is not catastrophic. Lay it out to dry as suggested and lube obvious points if it makes you feel better.
  23. As long as all the parts are there I can put it together for you.
