  1. There are whole websites and forums dedicated to Ambassadeur reels, I’d check some of them. I’ve seen these pictured but never in person.
  2. If an even number of brakes works for you, no reason not to put them opposite each other. But I see no reason to not use Just one or 3 of 4 or 5 of 6 if it provides the control you want.
  3. I like the old six pin centrifugal brakes. Set it and forget it.
  4. If I use an octopus or circle hook with an offset tie I’ll snell it sometimes.
  5. If you’re working a jerk bait or other technique that throws slack into the line maybe reel faster to keep the loops to a minimum.
  6. I don’t think it matters whether it’s delivered to the store or home. Rarely does damage to packages occur once they’re “ out for delivery”. It’s the conveyors in the processing plants that are really rough on stuff at times.
  7. Not required but I don’t see a problem with it. I don’t buy the theory of stretchy line keeps you from pull the bait away. The hard part of any top water fishing is waiting to feel the bite after seeing the blowup.
  8. Tackle is tools, each with an appropriate application. Baitcaster being better than spinning is like hammer is better than screwdriver.
  9. If raw casting distance for light baits is the priority stick with spinning tackle. Casting tackle rookies and distance casting is a recipe for frustration.
  10. Why do you expect the spool to stop automatically when the lure lands? Every baitcaster requires thumb control.
  11. Unless they’ve corroded from neglect I’ve never seen a worm bearing fail. I couldn’t agree more with your premise regarding bushings. The Core is my all time favorite reel with minimal bearing count. Super smooth , light and great casting.
  12. Water will get into a reel at nearly every use. It’s expected and why they have drain holes. The grease will repel water and if it did get dunked or wet enough to emulsify the grease it would become less slippery not more.
  13. They often count the AR bearing which is technically a clutch but still supports the main shaft while cranking. Obviously two good bearings to support the spool and allows smooth casting and retrieve. A support bearing at the base of the pinion is next import and better yet a second at the top. A bearing at the base of the main shaft is preferable over a bushing and again, a second at the top is a good feature. Next would be bearings at one or each end of the level wind worm gear. Some folks consider this a must have but in my mind is not a deal breaker. Lastly two or four bearings in the handle are total preference.
  14. Each material has it’s time and place.
  15. No moving parts on a spinning reel during the cast so that can’t have anything to do with it. My guess is the drag washer material is low quality, dry, stuck or dirty.
  16. Reels don’t cast, rods do. A poorly maintained or incorrectly set up reel can hamper casts but distance is result of a rod that loads correctly, good casting form and skill controlling the reel.
  17. How about a lust of lures and techniques you use. Otherwise the list is endless.
  18. Carry a wood dowel. Wrap braid and pull straight. You’ll straighten hooks. You can break a rod with any line trying to move too much weight.
  19. I do pitch casts with every rod I use. Length isn’t a factor in that regard. For flipping a longer rod increase your reach. Usually 7’6” plus.
  20. Break off a Bobby pin at the bend. Bend the end to 90* grind to a sharp edge. Hook under bottom edge of bearing grab low with pliers pry it out. May have to alternate sides.
  21. If you think your offering is being lost in a soft bottom try a drop shot with a long leader and keep the line tight. Further you cast, shallower the angle and the bait rides lower.
  22. Any mild detergent with a fresh water rinse is fine. For tougher stains denatured alcohol is safe and effective. A wipe with Armorall or Pledge adds shine and a little protection and dirt shedding.
  23. Anything is better than nothing. There’s no magic in any lubricant and reels are not an especially harsh application comparatively.
  24. The mere fact you’re thinking about this is a great start. Annual schedule for deep cleaning (open and full tear down) is right on. Keep things clean as possible Free of debris and dry before storing between trips. One drop of light oil on bearings And worm gear every 6 trips or as needed. Couple times a season pull the spool and run a swab around the rim and the frame where it rides. If you have any concerns during the season reach out here or directly.
  25. Busier than usual for the time of year for sure.
