  1. Intermittent AR slippage shouldn’t be enough free spool to cause a backlash. My gut reaction was that the heel of your hand is hitting the thumb bar just enough to disengage briefly. Just keep an eye in that. Lucas is not a solvent and hot sauce has no place near any reel imo, but definitely not as a flush. To clean the AR without pressing it out of the side plate Put some simple green in a dish, soak, swish and rinse with hot water. Let dry and oil with a swab and light oil.
  2. I’ve used other carbon tubes in the past and liked it a lot. I’ll be using some on personal builds assuming I ever get to fish again. Lol. Super busy.
  3. Windy days when casting is challenging
  4. Just spit balling what manufacturers might be thinking. I’m using a lot of the G2s and liking them. Proper installation might be a hindrance in a production setting as they are currently but I can see some other iteration being used.
  5. Who’s the arbiter of a “true “ rating is? That’s the problem, there’s no industry standards. Look at labeled power and lure weight range and factor in your own experience. Only hands on will tell the true story in the end.
  6. Are those the ones with the vampire fangs? I used to see Orlando Wilson catch them on TV
  7. I think the weight and texture of plastic would turn off a lot of anglers. I’ve used wood grips and would goths that route again for something different. Pricey though. Winn grips are just EVA with a rubber skin. I can see carbon tube handles like the G2 catching on in production rods one day.
  8. This is probably the second best idea. Touching up what’s there makes more sense than trying to reconstruct a guide.
  9. I know the area. Buy a license online and go fish. What’s the worsts that can do, make you leave? I met friends from NJ at salmon River for a week with no hassles. I lived in PA and used to buy Pa, Nj, Ny and Ct licenses. That stung every spring. Lol
  10. Fishing from the bank, I think you’re taking “parallel” to literally. With a 7’ rod, you won’t get much more than 5’/6’ feet off the bank truly parallel. Quartering and fan casting is best you can do.
  11. October and March are the worst snow months now. Lol.
  12. The line is basically Plattsburgh/Burlington south
  13. I bought three clearance ci4 in 1000, 2500 & 3000 sizes.
  14. That early in the season the south end might be a more sure bet (as little as that applies to fishing) NY & VT have a reciprocal agreement for licenses, google the details. I got curious : https://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6411.html
  15. I’m an hr west, exit 29 of NYSTW
  16. The Tatula is plenty well built for the application you mention including the level wind. Don’t misconstrue my comments about the gimmickyness (new word) of the Twing with it’s durability or suitability.
  17. I never lube handle knobs with free spin in mind. I want them to have minimal resistance but not spin on their own. More to the OP question, the mass of the knob, friction points in the mounting of the knobs, bearing size and minor differences in lubrication will affect th e free spin.
  18. You’ll risk breaking line and losing fish. If that doesn’t matter to you, have at it. The only fathomable fix would be JB Weld, drilled and polished. The cost and time will far exceed the proper repair.
  19. I agree with not wanting to lose a fish after working for bites, but the opposite is also true. You have to get bit before you worry about landing fish. From that viewpoint, I like mod/fast graphite rods for steering square bills through cover, ripping traps and cranks through grass and throwing inline spinners. I have a custom lamiglass SR 705 for deep cranks. I have also used fast action rods in a pinch and never had a problem landing fish on cranks.
  20. You should produce a show as the rockin’ angler. Couldn’t suck any worse than Charlie Moore. Lol
  21. You’re right for not locking down a drag, but the AR takes the brunt of the force not the gears. Winching fish in instead of using the rod to fight the fish stresses gears unnecessarily.
  22. S glass is the higher modulus. E is for inexpensive brute strength. Here’s an explanation: https://www.google.com/amp/s/swiftflyfishing.com/a/s/blogs/news/fiberglass-fly-rods-e-glass-s-glass-and-why-not-all-fiberglass-fly-rods-are-created-equal
  23. Ya, everyone has a favorite way to fish but avoid the temptation to force feed a bait or technique when there are obvious better choices for the circumstances.
