  1. to BassResource.com!
  2. Update: the gear noise in that real is common and can be expected. Nothing to worry about functionally. Mike
  3. shackman, Based only on the info you have provided, you might start at the spool and work outward looking at the supporting parts that might allow the pinion gear to move slightly out of alignment.
  4. Baiz! One of the best things about this site is that everyone is welcome regardless of level or experience. Enjoy!
  5. Do you have more detail on the model? The Capricorn schematics I have are for spinning reels and can't find it on Daiwa's site either. If you're sure you don't have them mixed up, make sure you're putting it straight in. Did it lift out easily?
  6. What make reel do have? There be some swap-out options but there isn't a lot of room to play with on the brakes.
  7. Jon! Enjoy your stay. This is best fishing site on the web.
  8. owl! Looking forward to some pics. Enjoy your stay at BassResource.com. Look for JFrancho, he's big into kayaks.
  9. Nice work! Definitely doesn't "Need" anything, but if you really want to try it, I like zbass's idea about plastic wrap.
  10. It depends on the circumstance. Some handles have more bearings, are different lengths and materials which may trim weight or provide a smoother feel. Knobs can be of other material or smooth vs. textured. Some changes are for personal preference alone.
  11. Some carbon washers come with dry lube, but if you're satisfied with the performance of the drag there's no harm in a light coat of good drag grease.
  12. A Tennessee handle would save the weight of a reel seat and possibly some grip material weight if made from shrink tubing, tape etc. As far as moving reel placement, there is some flexibility but guide size and placement and reel spool size would dictate a range and placement outside that range may affect casting. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see the TN handle come back into style.
  13. Have you tried TG's Rocketfuel Yellow?
  14. It's true that there is no written standard for rod power or action. I'd look more at the designated lure rating and as stated, you can experiment on either end of the weight range with good results. You can check the action or "speed" by flexing the tip. A fast action will bend into the first 1/4 of the rod, a med about 1/2 way.
  15. We spent many summer vacations in Old Orchard and have relatives in Portland.
  16. I'm in PA near the NY and NJ borders. Maybe I'll see ya' at Wild Bills Waywayonda event!
  17. to a great site!
  18. back! We have many small waters in our area that can only be fish from a small craft like your crawdad. They produce some nice fish. How did you make out with your bearing search? Let me know if I can hep you out.http://www.delawarevalleytackle.com/
  19. Rhino is right about the guides purpose, here is how that is achieved. When we build a rod, we start with one guide for each foot of rod length +1 not including tip. We attach the guides temporarily and static test to see how the line travels through the guide when the rod is under load. What you want to see is the line off the blank and flowing through the guides in an arch matching the rod blank. If we can accomplish this with fewer guides, we remove them and save the weight. Regardless of budget, I'd suggest bringing a spooled reel you plan to mount when rod shopping if possible. Mike
  20. Josh! There is a forum for Other Species with some good stuff if you want to check it out.
