  1. I really dont subscribe to the slower is 100% better theory, maybe in certain situations like heavy cover and the strike window is small. I often dont want a fish getting a good look at my bait, and reacting. My favorite buzzer, (and Ive tried tons) is the secretweapon lures brand in Black, with a colorado blade in 3/8. You have to reel it a bit quicker than others, but in clear water I'm convinced it gets bit better.
  2. All but one came on jigs. The fish drew has in the pic came on a crankbait.
  3. When you say stocked, do you mean from a fish hatchery? If it has been only 3 years, even in Florida the short answer is there may be no real hogs in there. Alot of people have no clue how big an honest 5-6lb bass is. At any rate thats all hear say for us sitting at computers miles away. The only way your gonna figure it out is time on the water. Blindly chucking larger lures will help, but learning the depth, cover, bottum composistion, etc will put you on big fish consistantly. Are you limited to the shore? If you can put a boat in with a depthfinder several times throughout the year you can really dial in a place. You can find out alot about a lake using live bait also.
  4. I was pretty upset earlier this year about it. The TT's were gone and the S.K.'s werent available yet. I ended up finding a local store (green top sporting goods) has sourced their own and have them 10 in a bag $5.00. Tough to beat that. They have the lighter weights which alot of the companies dont produce.
  5. Your right, I have the first model they released the "lizard dragger" blank. Its a great spinnerbait/buzzbait rod. Really light and comfortable to fish. The power of the blank is fine, just more of a moderate fast than a fast action.
  6. Yeah like I said we got a limited amount of pics on the first day when when we got into the mother load. The pics posted first were from the 2nd trip. Unfortunately we werent able to get but a few pics on the epic day as the one phone we had with us petered out around lunch time. I didnt get a pic of my PB >. We did weigh and measure length and gerth as they got bigger. Drew might come on and clarify, but I want to say his fish 26''?
  7. At this point Its between the veritas/verdict. Have you gotten a chance to fish a verdict to compare the two? I cast jigs just as much as I pitch them, at what point is lure weight on the H too light to load the tip? A lot of lakes I fish are algae choked and light jigs are needed at times. From what I gather in these lineups a MH may be better for me. Id really love to hear from someone who's fished both of these rods that can compare.
  8. Im glad you enjoy yours man, but I already own a mojo (7M plastics rod) and wont buy another. It performs okay but it balances pretty bad and Ive had issues with two of the guide inserts falling out. It actually has turned out to be a great shallow crank rod oddly enough.
  9. Hey guys. Im in the market for a rod in the 7' range MH-H power fast action. With a soft enough tip to pitch/short cast finesse jigs (1/8oz jig plus trailer). Budget is $100 +\ -. I purchased a 7H falcon bucoo for this purpose last year, I like the rod but it aint fast enough for a jig rod. Im really likeing what I hear on the 7'3'' veritas, but I can get the verdict for $80 (veritas for 70). The veritas feels more balanced to me than the more exspensive verdict (Balance is important to me) But Id love to get the added sensitivity of the verdict. If you were buying a rod just for jigs, which way would you go? Im open to other suggestions as well.
  10. All I'll say is depending on where you are in Powhatan you may be very close
  11. I usually run about 8'. Keeps from having to retie as often as I usually trim a bit of line with lure changes.
  12. Got a few more pics resized. Heres two including Drew's Monster.
  13. Good work dude! gotta love this time of year in VA!
  14. The Iphone has single handedly saved ATT and also has caused alot of their bad rep. Over the past 4-5 years more people have constantly streamed pandora and other heavy data streaming apps on their phones than other carriers and it caused problems on the ATT network. Thats why carriers have scrambled to limit data packages. The Tmobile sites will really help handle more volume. Verizon's network is worth watching as more and more people use smart phones (and more data) on their network. Both ATT and VZ are very aggressively spending money to improve.
  15. Thats good advice. One spinning rod, a 7'M fast action fenwick handles all my bass and occasional crappie needs. My style of fishing requires more BC setups.
  16. I own both (revo is an 09') and I'd say curado hands down. Honestly I wasnt impressed out of the box, but after cleaning/tuning those 1 piece spool shaft shimanos are amazing. The ergonomics are big for me as well. After years of throwing spooks/ sammys my fore arms and wrist appreciate the weight you save with the E7. I pretty much just use the revo for cranks or other tip down presentations.
  17. Its been a really good spring despite only getting 4 or 5 times. Went out with "fishingdrew" from BR and had a steller day 3 weeks back. We caught 9 bass over 8lbs. Drew caught his 3 or 4 PB's in one day with a big fish @ 10.8. I caught my second DD ever at 11.4. We were only able to get a few big fish pics before our phones died but we did get a few and have a witness, lol. Once drew gets the pics shrunk we should have those lol. Attached are a few pics from last friday. I had my wisdom teeth out thurs and decided Id rather go fishing and be in pain than sit on the couch in pain. It was worth it, lol. We didnt get into the numbers of big fish this time, but I did catch my third D.D. You gotta love isolated laydowns with deepwater access!
  18. Thats wasting money. You are literally spending double the amount of money on oil over the life of a car. The truth is most conventional oils can normally go up to 5K. Synthetics twice that. I was told by an valvoline rep at a service station I worked at in HS that "most can do 5k with ease. The 3k reccomendation is to sell more oil" There are lot of variables involved, and some engines need to be changed more often than others. Visually inspecting your oil can tell you alot about your engine.
  19. Do a search for a pinnacle platnum plus (I think thats the name I'll double check when I get home). I purchased a 7'MH rated for lures up 1 1/2oz about 5 years back. It handles lures up and slightly over 2oz quite well. Is fairly light and sensitive, has SIC guides and a pretty cool looking charcoal colored graphite ribbed blank. I know its not quite the length you want, but the series may be worth looking into. I was in a similar situation to you before I switched to All baitcasting gear and this is the rod I settled on. Much more comfy to fish than the St Croix Inshore rod Id used prior. I'll still use it once in a while when using live bait.
  20. Great advice! Crappie eat a ton of bait. They get really active during late winter/early spring. the problem this poses is two fold. One prey are in their lowest numbers at this time and another predator going all out is a bad thing. Truly Big bass also get active around this time, and crappie in a small pond will really keep the weight off of them. We own a small 1 1/2 acre pond that was full of large crappie as of 5 years ago. The bass fishing was good but no true big fish. We ate every crappie over the past few years, and the bass have grown considerably. I take pics of the larger catches and have watched one bass in paticular reach double digits and several others in the 8's and 9's. I also agree dont think for a minute that just because you havent caught them dont mean their not there. Ive had good luck planting structure in specific spots, and then targeting it. Good cover like a laydown amongst catails will draw those big fish shallow.
  21. You have a few options. You can, as you mentioned cut the plastic and put a bullet weight inside. Then a drop of super glue to keep it there. I used to put 1/8 tungstun weights in the heads of the manns hardnose jerkbaits. Another option, is to take a hammer to the lead weight of your choice. Just pound it flat (you want it fairly thin) and cut it with some strong snips. It doesnt take long.
  22. If you spray the legs down with some "reel magic" they wont melt. Ive been doing this for three or four years and no longer have issues. It will pay for itself soon enough. Like Jfrancho, I dont necessarily think it all can be blamed on the heat. I had a swamy donkey a few years ago start turning white (oxidation?) and eventually melted.
  23. Ive caught the same bass three times and my wife caught her once out of a pond. The bottum of her tail has about 1/4'' missing out of it. We call her "cowboy boot".
  24. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1234086142 Here ya go fellas.
  25. I'd love to see a new calais. The 100 is an amazing piece of machinery and would be perfect if it were just a bit lighter.
