  1. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/fishing/waterbodies/display.asp?id=21 I think this is right. It should have a map there on how to get there and it's where about. I wish to fish there one day myself.
  2. I'm 29 now but at that age I never really bass fish. I did fish all the time but more going down to the river and tossing out a line. I did have a buddy during those times, we always fished together. I got into bass about 4 years ago and most of time I fish alone if my brother doesn't come along or half the time he takes his boat with some others who wanted to go and I just bring my boat and go alone. I don't mind fishing with people probably prefer it sometimes or at least getting up with others like we did at Powhatan lakes. Even if doing your own thing it's fun fishing as a group.
  3. that is something I never thought of. Good ideal I just don't have any extras at the moment. Sure would have came in handy when my brother backlash both our cranking setups. I never thought i would get mine out. I need to respool anyways line been on for awhile now. I about do that with my spinning if I'm able too. My problem most of time with the Carbongold on my supreme is it would badly knot coming off a cast and I'm force to cut it.
  4. Yea I never bought the seasonal boat launch just my access for the year. I thought I paid $28 last year must been $25. I must of paid $28. $25 plus $3 for launch. But another question Wayne P, have you fished Diascond lately or anyone else can tell me how it's doing. I only been once this year(first time) and got skunked. Beginning of spring and water was cold.
  5. I would stick with next time Regular XPS flouro $15 for 12# if I'm not mistaken and you might just be better off with that line anyways. You will hate yourself if out fishing even practicing and something takes hold and you have your line snap with cheaper line like Vanish. That brand seems to have a very bad rep for standing by it's name. I never heard anything about Triple Fish or Viscous. If still is Gander Mountain at least the one Fredericksburg had the Seagar red label for $15 last week. Not sure of it's review. But do trust me it's not going to take you long at all to casting your Carbonlite. Also by any chance are you taking your thumb off the spool while casting?
  6. I never paid a launch fee last year just my yearly pass for Hunting run and Ni. Unless that was it I just remember each time last year I paid $3 to launch each visit. All the new prices scared me this year. For the old man I still never got his name. The new guy working over at the Ni Res is cool too. That man loves to joke. Sadly though I only been to each once this year.
  7. I'm not a fan of the Carbongold. I have 10# on my spinning rod. By far I think it gives me the most fit so far on my spinning gear. So far I tried Trilene flouro 10#( fits but not as bad)Suffix 10#( no problems I recall) and some 10# Seagar carbonpro I think it was called? It was in a yellow box and their cheapest flouro line I think at the time.I gave me hell for the first month but calmed down after that. The Carbongold just hates me. Every other cast it will either twist off or get all knot up and I have to cut the line. I have the same combo with 12# BPS XPS flouro regular with no problems at all. Have you tried KVD line conditioner? Maybe trry that or take spool off and do the hot water trick if that works on baitcasters or not? Some posted about that a couple of weeks ago. I'll see if can find the post. #11 Bassthumb explains how to do the warm water.
  8. My advice would be first if can find someone in the county with a launch pass already. If I remember correctly the year pass is still $28 for non-residents for Huntingrun and Ni(not sure of individual pass)but now you have to pay a launch fee on the year $40. Am I correct Wayne P? If not buying pass for year there to fish it's $7 each visit but I think you still have to pay your launch fee? If not have a boat they do have boats for rent but only 2 I think have a live well and those go quick. I know when I go to either I go with my brother so I don't pay the launch fees just my $7 for the day. My brother lives on Plank rd. Maybe if want to hook up with him. He's a member here too. Pm Punkinseedfyretailz. If do ever go Go early cause if your anything like me and if the older man still works there I can talk to him for hours. Very friendly guy and don't be surprise seeing him later in the day on the water. Me and him talk about you Wayne all the time. Does he still work there? Do you have to pay the launch fee just to launch a boat? If so do they still charge the $3 each time visit? Dhami013 also if your looking for some nice places to fish and if your background is clean AP Hill is only $20 for the year and not even 30 minutes from Fredericksburg depending on where at you are. They have if I counted right on my new map 42 ponds and 4 lakes. I'm not sure if what pond are assessable to fish or hold fish cause the last year map only listed 12 ponds I think. Lakes the same number from last year. The best I did there was two years ago I pulled out a 3.5lber from Beaverdam pond, 4lb bowfin from Boyou off of rt 2, and last year a 3.12 from Smoot's pond. I probably had another 3 to 4 lb bowfin at White's lake. If ever come there have a frog and a jig rod ready. Tons of lilies and submerge trees. I'm not sure if you can still pay $5 just for the day.
  9. It must of been something I missed? From what I have read I thought you was very helpful with me and Dhani013.
  10. Is that a fish above the thermocline suspended off the drop? The rest of the arches fishes to? I can still can't get arches either. Could it be my transducer is installed at the back of boat like instructed? Also what does it mean when you get two bottom readings?
  11. Thanks again Wayne. I'm going to keep a look out for it. The red is thermocline right? Why does run up hill like? What's the blue/yellow spot above it?
  12. True about palomar? I did not know either.
  13. How much is each tournament? Also is there any other cost?
  14. Thanks Wayne. I'm still trying to get an ideal of this finder of mine. When the last time I've been to Huntingrun I was told it might been to early for it. I didn't see one for the Ni res when I went two weeks ago. I want to hit lake Orange I think there would be a great place to learn fishing deep. You been to the Orange lately?? How is the fishing there? Another question does a river like the Rappahannock have a Thermocline?
  15. Believe me I listen to him all the time. Him and Sam both help influence me and helped me allot. Far as thermoclines go I'm still trying to get my Humminbird to pick it up.
  16. I still go and try my luck best I can I even try some deep stumps with no luck there. I can't determind what's a channel to just the natural depth of a lake. And I'm trying all I can to understand my depth finder. Neither one sure isn't easy, lol.
  17. I know that is something I've been trying to pick up on, fishing deep. I've been reading some articles on here but still can't understand the concept. I think the only time I caught anything deep I was trolling through with my rattle trap.
  18. Mine are 7.1 ratio 6'6 MH PQ casting combo with 50# PowerPro(jigging), 6.4 ratio 7' MH Carbonlite casting combo with 12# XPS Flouro(cranking), 6.4 ratio Citori paired with a 7'3 H Carrotstix casting with 50# Suffix 382 (frog), 6'6 M Gander Mountain tournament spinning combo with 10# Trilene flouro (wacky, worm), spinning 7' M Citori paired with a Pflueger President XT with 10# Suffix flouro (chatterbait), spinning 6'8 M Carbonlite paired with a Pflueger Supreme with 10# XPS Carbongold flouro(shaky head).
  19. I use to use a 6'6 MH PQ combo with 7.1 gear ratio. It had no problem bringing out a 4lb bowfin from the lilies on 30lb XPS braid. Now I'm using a 7'3 H Carrotstix with a 6.4 Citori with Suffix 832 50lb braid. Both are casting setups. Even with all the mix reviews on the Carrotstix I would say I'm trying to put a serious test, lol. So far nothing to test it but two lil guys I caught frogging. I wish I could recommend a rod or even a reel but my advice would be just bargain bin shop. The Curados are on clearance. My brother likes his Xfactor rod and I think they're still on clearance. On buying a clearance item though I would make sure the store still has a warranty on rod or reel for just incase. Maybe check the review on the Skeet Reese frog rod? I think it's $99.
  20. I agree as well and went out and bought gippers just for them. Only mistake was not getting 1 with scale. Mine never seem to calm down. I'm trying to break my 4lb pb as well on a bowfin. Is it coincidence that my pb for bass is 4lb? Just caugt another 4lber bowfin on wacky. 2lbers are fun on 5 microlites as well.
  21. I've been fishing AP Hill for last two years. You can't beat it for $20 a year. They must increase the fishing casue the new map I have have a load of new pond listings. 42 ponds, 4 lakes. I'm not sure how many are accessible by land or boat or even fishable. but last year map only listed 13 ponds and lakes. Lakes are the same from last year. You do have to do a background check this year.
  22. If remember correctly Gander Mountain have GSX tournament for you price. I know the combo is on sale for $64 here. Nice combo at that though I know you just looking for rod. Also bargain bin shop at bps, gander, etc. My brother got the Xfactor from gander for $70 I think. Original price is $150. Last year I got a Citori rod from bps for $40 which they go for $99 and a Carrotstix for $80 I think, original price $149. So clearances pays off.
  23. Me and my brother went to the Ni res.this past Sunday from 6:30 to about 3:00. I only manage land 3. 1 bass on a 3/8 white chatterbait, and 2 bass and rock bass I think on wacky. My brother had 2 pickerel lost 1 at boat hit my gold/black one knocker rattle trap and lost 1 bass in some trees right near the boat. I can't remember what worm he had Trigged. During the day I ended up losing my chatterbait and my brother lost my rattle trap and his spook. We also couldn't get nothing to hit in the lilies. Frogging doesn't seem to be happening for this year. So far just 2 lil guys on the year. I'm going to try and give Engineer pond a go tomorrow . It's located inside AP Hill base. I'm going to try some of the ponds I never tried a go.
  24. Have anyone fished these if so what is your take on them? My Gander Mountain have them on sale for $2.99, 50% off. So I picked up baby bass and gold/black. Thanks.
