Yea first time I fished there frogging was great then it just stop. Yesterday I only landed one but had missed several hit on my Deps Soft Crawler, Spro65 Midnight walker and Leopard. Some how my leopard has cuts on the bottom of it not sure if a toothy fish did it. Man it was walking real nice too. I lost one on the Deps that had a real nice blow up close to the boat but I didn't get to see it. It was real nice knowing the have a 4# in there at least. I knew they had bowfin in the 4# range caught one two years ago that size. Thanks ICU!

If ever used Shad or Herring make sure it's fresh. Spinners and Chatterbaits does the trick for me,lol. For real though I ave caught cats on em. If I'm going to a stock ponds minnows work for me. Outside of that cut bait or liver.

I would say the Abu is but I would think what I offer for in my post would be better and only $10 dollar more than what they want for the Abu and what Packard post is an excellent reel and probably a better rod as well. I had some Pflueger rods that I thought was decent. My brother is also using that same combo Packard mention and loves it. It's the same price as what the Abu is and from Cabela's as well.

Bowies pond

I went to Bowies Pond today off of rt 2. Been wanting to go back but my luck went from good to bad in the last two years. The stumps are still there,lol. Bump I don't know how many today. I got there around 7:30 and left at 12:00. The water temp started at 77 degrees and reach 80 if that is right. i only manage 3 for the day, A 4.9 bass which ties my PB(I'm stuck on 4#, 3 this year and 4# bowfin both came off the wacky, Senko's Plum Apple. I finally did land my first Deps Soft Crawler fish. I fish mainly the lilies with frogs and wacky the outside edge of the lilies. I tried jigging and wacky around a few fallen trees and stumps that I seen. I tried a Spro Prime crankbait 2.5 in gold/black around the edge of lilies but nothing took. I just actually was trying out my new crankbait combo I just picked up. Sorry for the wrong date. God I really hate this camera. Stupid cheap kodaks. I'm just glad mine is 40 minutes away. That and Gander Mountain and Green Top is right up the road. Opposite direction is another Gander Mountain. Cabela's I'm not sure where that is at?

I use to use sewing thread and wrap it, some use to take panty hose and tie the liver inside it but both those methods might be illegal now and probably was then. I don't know.

First off Welcome to the site!! Are you ordering online I think you might be able to find better within that price, even in stores. If I had to choose the Abu for me I always like their Spinning reels in away. The Shakespear I always messed with seemed rough. The Abu rod I would be concerned about. If they anything like their older models the tips seem to break. I bought my brother's Father-n-law one and the tip broke. Then again that Shakespear seems to be much better from reading about than the ones I messed with. If deadset on those two just do a online check for reviews on both. Here is a combo that I like. I have the older model in 6'6 M. I use it for wacky all the time. It's $79 ten more than the Abu. Suposely mine(reel) was made by Pflueger at the time and when they went GSX I was told they switched over to Quantum. Might be the Shakespear rod. I could be wrong but they make one too. For that matter if new see if can return. Older I'm not sure might have to just get new rod. Hopefully someone can help if still under warranty!

What about the casting pond they advertise during events? Is that only for events? Yea I remember when they had the Tungsten crew there and they also had another event where they had you trying to pitch in a 5 gallon bucket from a boat.

For deep too? My wife is very upset that I spent that much but I been wanting a Curado for awhile now and Crucial has a nice buzz. What size line should I use? I might have a lil Trilene 10# flouro left that I can use for now. All my 12# and 14# looks to low. I think I might have enough 12# Yo-zuri Hybrid. Out of the two? Both clear. Man oh man I should have check this earlier I was gone though. Wow I thought J Francho was talking about Citica yesterday for $80. Well I joined the posse today today. I had to settle for the $139 deal on a Curado. I got the 200E5 for cranking. The 5.0:1 ratio. I also got a Crucial for $119 CRC-C70M, 7' M-MF. I went to BPS and Green Top, purchased at Green Top. I didn't check with Gander Mountain not sure if would have been cheaper anyways and didn't bother with the Dick's up that way. Figure Hookingem done rob them blind, lol. How good is that rod for cranking and deep cranking?
