  1. I have the same reel and I love it, it's been my workhorse reel for almost 2 years now and it's been perfect. As for the brakes I pretty much just keep 2 on/2 off and keep the external brakes at 0 and adjust depending on the wind conditions. If your not comfortable with that yet start at about the halfway or 3/4 point and work down from there.
  2. Been catching a lot of numbers lately, no pigs yet though. April-June last year is when I caught most of my bigger fish so maybe it'll be that way this year also. Had to fight off the bait monkey saturday though, almost bought a Chronarch 200e7 and a Curado that I really don't need lol.
  3. Na, went out there yesterday and didn't catch anything. The water is super clear, didn't even see a bass. Did run into a 4 foot water moccasin though. The pond I was catching them in was off of Cecil Commerce Center/New World Ave.
  4. Fishing seems to be picking up here. Tried a new spot I found on my way home from work for about an hour and caught 7 fish. None were huge but still a lot of fun. Got them on a Watermelon Red Magic Speed Craw. Any of you Jax guys ever fish that pond behind the Equestrian Center on Normandy Blvd? It's been there for 10 years according to google earth and it seems to have a lot of nice vegitation in it.
  5. I grew up always using lefty spinning reels and made the switch to righty baitcasters quite a few years ago. You get used to it after a while. I actually tried using a LH baitcaster and it just felt really weird. Didn't like it at all. Still use all of my spinning stuff with the reel handle on the left though.
  6. Hey man haven't seen you around here in a while. I'm actually working out in Macclenny now. You have any good spots out there? I've been throwing a rod in the car with me when I go to work but I haven't seen any good spots yet.
  7. KVD 1.5 Trick worm 3/8oz White Willow/Colorado Spinnerbait 3/8oz Black/Blue jig with a craw trailer 6" Lizard
  8. Fishing the heavy rains in the spring/summer is my favorite. I always seems to catch quality fish.
  9. I've pulled a lot of 5+ pound fish out of some of these tiny retention ponds around here. The big fish are there it's just tough to get a bite from them. You'll get a big one eventually.
  10. This weather is getting nice. Hopefully I'll actually be able to fish this month.
  11. I'm still alive, and I'm in. The lack of daylight and the holidays making for long work days kept me off the water most of last month. Hopefully I can get out more this time.
  12. The weather and the lack of time in the day has really hurt my fishing time. Hoping to get out soon though.
  13. The weather here is just disgusting. It's in the 50s, 30mph wind, rain. No fishing for me. Good call on the MF XF. That should be a fine worm/frog rod.
  14. Check out the *** Black by ***. It's the best rod I've used in the $100 range and I've had quite a few. It's a really nice rod for the price. You can get them locally at Gander Mountain. For soft plastics and frogs I'd suggest a MH F or XF. You could get away with a medium though.
  15. I was right, the fish were on FIRE today. Caught 12 fish in about 2 hours of fishing. All of these fish were caught on a Redbug U-Vibe Speedworm, 30# Suffix 832, 7'1 MF *** Black, Lews SS Tournament. I was pulling the speedworm across the surface near pads, grasslines, and submerged vegetation. 17" 16.5" 16.5" 15.5" 19" I needed a fast start. After time rolls back I'll only be able to fish like twice a week instead of the 3-5 I do now.
  16. With the cold front coming in tomorrow today should be a really good day. I hope I can get out after work today. I'm dog tired but I wanna get some fish.
  17. I do like 90% of my fishing in the afternoons after work from around 4-8. The time change always sucks for me. Since I took this season off from my flag football league I have my Saturdays cleared up so we need to get out and fish more. Dave needs to get us on some hogs.
  18. You can and will catch big fish even in the colder months here. It just takes a bit more work. Really December and January are the only months I'd call slow here. November and Feb. are on fire usually. Daylight savings time is gonna kill me more than the weather. No more after work fishing for me really.
  19. Here in FL it seems like any body of water that has had water in it for more than a year or so has bass. I've caught 5lb fish out of ponds and ditches that look like giant mud puddles.
  20. Fish were crazy active again today but I couldn't get anything big enough to cull some fish. My buddy did get a 6lber though and I missed something big. I also snagged a tree on the backswing of my cast and got a birdnet from hell. Had to cut out $15 worth of suffix 832. As i'm cutting my line out trying to fix it my buddy lands the 6lber.
  21. They just didn't want to commit to eating it. I've had that happen a lot. Could be because of the really cool weather the last couple of nights, they aren't as aggressive. When that happens I'll usually follow up with a slow worm and get the fish.
  22. This weather up here has the fish going nuts. Just fished the pond by my house and got 10 fish in about 15 minutes of fishing. Massive schools of bass just crushing everything in the water. Gonna go to my big fish spot tomorrow and hopefully have similar luck. I need to get back in the top 5.
  23. Man I haven't haven't done anything is a while. I need to get on some fish so I can get back in the top 5.
  24. Caught a few dinks on the ol U-Vibe worm. Pretty slow day for me.
