  1. Nice fish man! I'm from Kings Mountain, NC. Those 5 lbers are always fun to catch! We are all curious as to what you caught the fish on!! lol
  2. Thanks guys! I have enjoyed the last 7 years in the Corps serving this great Country. I sent the picture to my wife's stepdad and he said, "look at my tax dollars hard at work!" I told him that I only fish during my lunch break when I wouldn't be at work anyhow...lol.
  3. Hey guys. It has been quiet sometime since I have posted anything on here. However, I thought I would share this picture with you and tell the story that goes along with it. We have five ponds on the base I am stationed at right now and I try to fish them as much as possible during lunch. I thought I had already missed the spawn this year because it has been so warm here in Beaufort, SC since mid Feb. In one of the ponds (really clear water) the bass have already spawned and all that is left are empty beds that you can see very easily from the bank because of the clear water. The fish in the clear pond were finished spawning two to three weeks ago. But, the pond I caught this fish in is just now starting to show some beds. I caught this fish right on the outside of a bed that you can only see wearing polarized shades and I counted five or six other beds right down the bank from where I caught this one. My question is...I thought the weather and moon phases had the most effect on bass when they spawn? Why are the fish in this pond spawning later than the fish in the other pond?
  4. Hey guys I am going fishing with a friend at Santee tomorrow 25 February. The weather here in coastal SC has been warm and I'm hoping for some good action. We are putting in at Jack's landing and this will be my first time fishing this lake... he has been there a few times and told me he hasn't had much luck...he's an old saltwater guy...do you guys have any tips on how to catch 'em up there? Don't worry I'm a C&R guy so if I catch one I will take a picture, post it here, and tell you how and where I caught it...lol. Thanks for any help you can give.
  5. I actually liked Lebron before he went to Miami. None of the big "3" play right with each other. The only reason they made it to the finals is because we are talking about Dwayne Wade and Lebron James on the SAME team...but, Dallas showed the whole world how teamwork can win games...not just passing the ball because you are scared to shoot. I have never seen Lebron pass the ball when wide open behind the 3-point line like he did this season with Miami.
  6. Thanks for the replies and information. I'm glad I found this out now before I hook into a big one and the line breaks because of my knot. Thanks guys!
  7. I apologize if this thread has already came up before. What is the best knot when using fluoro? I have always used a palomar knot but was reading that you should never use a palomar with fluoro because it will cut into itself. I have broke off fish on fluoro but always chalked it up to other reasons. What knot do you use for fluoro?
  8. "Last cast" for me always turns into "a couple more", "maybe two more"," oh that looks like a good spot for a fish" and maybe 20 mins later IF I haven't caught a fish I will pack it up and head to the house. But, no I don't think I have ever said last cast and then caught a fish...that has to be a great feeling though!
  9. Hey everyone. I have a question that relates to schools of bait fish and what to throw when you see a school swimming your way. I was out fishing at one of the ponds near my house yesterday after work. I noticed huge "balls" of bait fish swimming out in the open water. Every couple of minutes a bass would dart in and devour these bait balls. I tried to get close enough to get a look at the bait and noticed a black line running down their sides (transluscent in the water except for that line). Could these by baby bass? I'm not too sure if they are baby bass, bluegill or shad. They are roughly 3" long and are schooling all over this pond. I know there are tons of bluegill in this pond but I thought most of the bluegills were bedding right now. So, my question is what would be a good bait to throw around these bait balls to try to trigger a strike? I'm thinking a curly tail grub on a jighead or something of that nature. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, I finally caught my first jig bass yesterday!! I'm pretty excited about that. I've been bass fishing for about three years now and never had the confidence in that bait to throw it. Well, now I do!!
  10. Here is the pic hopefully.
  11. ok the attachment didn't work. Let me try to figure this thing out.
  12. I caught this pig around the last week of March and figured since I haven't posted anything in awhile that I would share it. I caught right next to the bank behind a log that had fell in the water from the bank. Caught it on a culprit red shad curly tail worm (7.5") t-rigged. When I set the hook my dang reel came off the rod but I still managed to land it and get a few pics before releasing it.
  13. That game was boring and I thought it would be a great one. The Saints don't look like the team they were last year but it's still early. That version of the National Anthem made me cringe. Why can't people just sing it the way it's supposed to be sang. And she said the wrong words one time that I heard. Just plain awful.
  14. Nice fish big dog!
  15. Man that is a pig! Nice story too! Thanks for sharing.
  16. Nice fish buddy! My friend had a fish tank with oscars and cichlids in it. Those things are aggresive!! Somebody must've let that one go in the river! ;D
  17. The way the body of the fluke is shaped. I think you will find that the EWG hooks will give you a better hookset than the offset worm hooks. But either one of them should work fine.
  18. Great video! Thanks!
  19. The fish down my way have been real tight to cover. Flipping and pitching crawfish imitators into cover has worked well for me. Good luck!
  20. All I can say is "WOW!!"
  21. I voted plastics because I use them most.
  22. Do you think you will have time to fish while on recruiting duty?? haha!! I'm stationed in Beaufort, SC at the air station down here but I was stationed in Jacksonville, NC for my first 4 years. What unit were you with? Nah I'm kidding about not having time to fish...my buddy is out there on the streets and he said the quotas have gotten easier since we aren't trying to plus up anymore.. I grew up about an hour and a half away from Lake Norman as well...that is a really nice area up there. Well good luck out there and Semper Fi!!
  23. Thanks Catt--I have recently been playing around with this. When i first started using plastics I reeled way too much slack out of my line and missed a lot of fish. Now I am trying the whole semi slack line and am landing way more fish than I used to. Thanks for the reply Catt.
