  1. Not trying to rude at all, so please don't take this the wrong way. After breaking all those rods, do you think you could be damaging them in transport, or not take such good care of them i.e. high sticking etc. etc. It just doesn't seem right you've broken so many rods. If you can find one, look for an older berkley lightning rod. The older ones were quite sensitive, and featured ceramic guides.
  2. I really love their hooks. I've been using them since I found out about em'. Never lost a fish yet on one (then again I've NEVER caught a fish on soft plastic...)
  3. Sorry, after reading my post I can tell my question wasn't clear. Have you ever had to use your warranty? How easy was it? Did you have good communication both ways. Things like that.
  4. I was looking at the Shimano Clarus spinning rods. They really look nice for the $$$. The only thing I want to know is how good is shimano's rod warranties? I know it has a limited lifetime, but how good is it? Thanks much Matthew Luce

  6. I caught a 2500 size on sale for 25 bucks. At first, yes it's a wonderful reel. After having it 6 months; I'm not really that impressed. First thing, the little plastic dilly that helps hold the hand on broke. So I had to tighten down the handle, and now I can't change sides. It has also lot quite a bit of its smoothness. I'd take a Flooger trion over it any day.
  7. X2 on the lightning rod. I still have one from the 90's, still fishing with it, and it is fairly sensitive.
  8. I was fishing a fair sized farm pond today (about 1/2 an acre) using a Mann's Baby 1-. I got a few decent 1lb bass, but I missed alot more. Several times bass would follow my bait 5-10ft and then short strike. I was reeling it in slow as possible, but they still would short strike. What causes this. Were they just lethargic? Do I need a different color? By the way. Water temps were around 50-60, air temp 70's.
  9. I have two different scenarios I would interject. First scenario is this. I ALWAYS have a PSK (personal survival kit) and a pocket knife with me... ALWAYS. It has a lighter, flint and steel, water puri tabs, compass, and a basic first aid kit. That would at least make things bearable. The most important thing is not food, not by a long shot. A person can live between 3 to 4 weeks with no food. You'll last maybe 3 days without water. Not just any water either. You need clean PURIFIED water, so you don't dehydrate quicker from little squiggles in the water. Remember 1. Clean Water 2. Shelter 3. Fire 4. Signalling 5. Food
  10. I figured as much, but I still had to hope.
  11. Hey all, I'm looking for some kind of a depth finder I could use from the shore. I don't have any hopes of a boat soon (sigh), and I've been looking at some that have a little floating transducer with about a 100 foot range, and 100ft depth capacity. Do any of you know of anything similar to this that might help my plight?
  12. I don't know where in Oklahoma where you are, but down here in SE Oklahoma where most of the water is muddy brown-- lotsa people do good on frogs. However, mostly soft bodies. BTW what part of OK are you from?
  13. X2 On homeschooling. I think homeschooling is one of the best forms of education if the parents are really willing to help teach their children. One thing I have noticed about every home schooler I have met is that home schooled children are far, and by large, more mature than their publicly or privately educated counterparts. I much prefer the company of people three or four times my age than any teenager;mainly, because I can carry on an intelligent conversation about politics, religion, music (bluegrass .!), or, most importantly, fishing... Another reason I throughly believe that homeschooling is a preferably alternative to public or private education is this: Your children won't have near as much peer pressure to do less the reputable things ie.. drinking, drugs, fornication, etc...etc... I am completely convinced that being home schooled does have social reciprocations, and they are all favorable. BTW Captain Obvius I truly prefer to wear a dress shirt and slacks for "Casual clothing" unless I'm fishing..
  14. I'm going to taking a trip out to my uncle and aunts house this spring. They have two awesome stocked ponds (several 5lb+ pulled out). The thing is, they don't fish so I bring all my gear. Now normally, I'd take my array of 6-7 1/2 rods, but we're taking the family car. Are there are decent 2 piece casting rods around (preferably below) 50$? I've already get a spinning setup for w/braid for soft plastics. I want this to be used for small spinner baits, and maybe a few lipless cranks. Is there an action that covers that? Thanks.
  15. I know my answer won't be as inclusive, helpful, or nearly as long winded as Pinnacle 1's, but I'll expound upon the subject anyway. There are so many differences between the Slyder and the Megaforce there is no possible way they could be based off each other. Several differences you would care to notice are: 1. The Daiwa uses a little bar type hootus over the spool to pickup line; whereas the Slyder uses a wheel. 2. The Pinnacle features a 7.0:1 gear ratio compared to Daiwa's 7.1:1 I've handled one of these in the store. They seem as nice as any graphite reel. If you have big hands (like mine) the wheel is very hard to use. My only concern is this-- it is marketed for drop-shot, finesse plastics, and other light bait applications. Messing with the free spool in the store; I'm just not sure it has it in itself to throw such lightweight baits.
  16. Of late, I've been trying many "budget reels". In my opinion, a graphite framed bait caster is not worth considering. If you want a reel that will last any considerable amount of time on the water; I suggest you go with an aluminum frame. One of my personal favorites -ducks head- is the BPS Extreme OR Pro Qualifier. Both of these reels are on sale right now. It may cost a little more to get a nice reel, but if it lasts you longer-- then it really is cheaper. Let us say you buy a Pro Max for eighty dollars and it lasts for 2-3 years it averages to 40-25ish a year. Let us now consider a Revo S (or Citica if Road Warrior sees this) at around one-hundred dollars. If the Revo lasts 5 years (it should longer with proper care) That averages to 20 dollars a year. Now, I know that one-hundred dollars isn't the MSRP of the Revo S, but I've seen many at that price. Now, not only is an aluminum bodied reel most cost effective in the long run, but they are, as a rule smoother and better casting. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! :-?
  17. I've used Red Eye Shads for about 2-3 months, and I will continue to do so until my stash of 20 (1 buck apiece on clearance runs out). My next hot bait will be whatever winds up on clearance ;D ;D ;D
  18. It's already registered in Arkansas, but i'm not sure if these boats have titles. I've been trying to find something out on oklahoma DMV sight, but that's like finding a needle in a haystack.
  19. I'm thinking about buying a bass buster off of Craigslist. I live in oklahoma, and the guy says you don't need a title to get it registered. Do any of you guys know if this is true, or a link where I can find out about this?
  20. I notice Pinnacle has a nice fleshed out assortment of baitcast reels;however, spinning reels are woefully lacking. Is Pinnacle ever planning a nice aluminum (or even Mg) bodied spinning on par with the nicer offerings from Shimano, Daiwa, Pfooger, etc?
  21. Well browsing at Academy today I found a few good buys in the clearance bin. I found some Stanley Bull Ribbit frogs for 1.31 a pack. I also have a pack of Zoom Horny Toads I got a yardsale for .25. Now, I've never, ever, ever fished a frog before. I'll be throwing it on a mh/f fenwick eagle. Is the rod alright? Any tips on presentation ect.ect...?
  22. custom painted big m's by zbass!
  23. None of the above... GLX w/Curado spooled with yo-zuri (just leave off the Gammie hooks)... Sorry RW I couldn't resist
  24. Is it a Luhr Jensen Speed Trap?
  25. There are several new awesome spincast reels available now. One is the Zebco Omega (http://www.tackletour.com/reviewzebcoomega.html) it retails for around 50$. Now the more economical is the 33 platinum. This is actually a pretty nice reel. I think it has five bears and a true instant anti-reverse (unlike the junky 1/4 anti-reverse of a regular 33). It sells for about 20$, and would be my choice.
