  5. http://www.secretweaponlures.com/arsenal/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8 That link should take you right to the products I was mentioning.
  6. Plano 3650 ProLatch Utility Box 100 dollar kit: (1) Secret Weapon boat decal (2) 3/16-ounce spinnerbaits (4) 5/16-ounce spinnerbaits (2) 9/16-ounce spinnerbaits (8) Alternative silicone skirts (4) Mustad Ultra-point trailer hooks with keeper tabs (36) Quick-clip blade attachments 179 dollar kit: Heck of a lot of stuff in sidearm, quickstrike and buzzbait models. (40) Premium Silaflex skirts (66) Quick-clip Blade Attachments I like the idea of a kit with quick clip blade attachments for the versatility but gosh, sure seems like a lot to spend on spinners. Any of these kits a good value? Can anyone attest to their quality?
  7. I've been using 10# p-line floroclear and recently when fishing light baits that don't sink rapidly or a frog for instance that sits on top, I'm having an issue with the line sitting on top of the water and, in a way, partially predetermining the path of my retrieve. It's especially annoying if it's windy. I will see exactly the spot I would like to run my lure over, cast past it and the wind will horseshoe my line around my target spot and alter my line of retrieve just enough to miss my target. I hope I'm describing the problem clear enough - the lure is landing where I want it to land but gets pulled along the path of the fallen line instead of straight back to me. I haven't fished enough different types of line and brands to know if it's just a quality of this brand or type of line. I'm thinking it could also just be an issue that everyone deals with and maybe I need to factor in before making a cast. Thanks in advance for any insight or advice.
  8. The new Core MG50 has a thread, so I figured this reel deserved one as well. I don't know how long it's been up but Cabela's is listing the reel on its website (backordered though). http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp;jsessionid=XWS0AGMXOM5DTLAQBBJCCOVMCAEFGIWE?id=0071853124748a&type=product&cmCat=froogle&cm_ven=data_feed&cm_cat=froogle&cm_pla=0800502&cm_ite=0071853124748a&_requestid=64009 Anyone seen this reel offered anywhere else yet? I'm very eager to get one. P.S. How can I change the url hyperlink so that it links to the address but doesn't have to display the whole thing? If you PM me I'll change it.
  9. Well I'm not sure if you meant it this way but one thing I probably wouldn't do is use the same rod for drop shotting and c-rig.
  10. Looking for information about fishing two flukes. How do you set up this rig? How do you fish it? Any tips or experiences with it? Two same color flukes or mix and match? Line weight? Ever hook up two fish? Thanks fellas.
  11. I LOVE DSG! My nearby store is about 3 minutes away and I stop by whenever I can think of an excuse. Golf and fishing side by side? Is this heaven? My store has everything baitwise that I would want but it lacks a variety of high quality reels and rods. The nicest they have (freshwater-wise) would be a single curado e7 and a single revo STX in their display case. Everything else is low end combos. Also the help is pretty lousy in the Lodge. If you can even manage to find a sales associate in sight, 90% guaranteed they don't know the answer to your question.
  12. Definitely not a necessary upgrade. They take a light weight finesse reel and supercharge it, adding weight and strength (and a lot of bells and whistles for looks) that it doesn't necessarily need for its intended purpose.
  13. Bingo! Roger hit the nail on the head. LuckyCraftMan, I accept your challenge!!!! Bringggg ittttt.
  14. TD Alpha R edition is 6.0oz. I think the other ones are a bit more up to 8oz. Daiwa Presso is ultra finesse at 5.5oz and Daiwa Pixy is super finesse at 5.7oz. I'd go Pixy!
  15. All my point is, it's the nature of the instrument to be that way (in the rod's case due to physics and in the gun's case it's obviously due to design) and I was trying to demonstrate that with an analogy. And it sounds to me like you're very proficient at being accurate with all of your rod lengths! ;D
  16. Neither... lots of lotion and dedicated moisturizing. A real thought though... I'd say about 1/4 fish that I catch, I don't necessarily feel him there at all. This is probably a bad thing, but I become very egotisical and convince myself I'm omniscient and just KNOW when my lure is in a fish's mouth. In these moments I will pull my rod back and set that hook and occasionally I come out being right. I think it comes down to conditioning, getting use to the moments when fish usually do strike so you're more ready for it and honed in to feel something if something does occur. You feel your spinner bait hit a stump and deflect, you stop your retrieve to let it flutter and act stunned. You didn't feel anything but gosh, isn't that just a signature moment when they usually take it? SET THE HOOK.
  17. I see the point here, but based on pure physics alone the argument fails. Can a person be extremely "accurate" with a shotgun? Yes. Can a person be extremely "inaccurate" with a rifle? Yes. Is a shotgun more accurate than a rifle? No. I put the word "accurate" in parenthesis because it's an improper use of the word, the correct word would be proficient. Good topic
  18. Just to drop two other suggestions out there.. Kistler drop shot special and Tica drop shot rod. I haven't fished either of these rods but have heard good things. The Kistler looks great imho and supposedly rocks out but its like 130. Tica has a drop shot rod that's a quarter oz. lighter than the Loomis and it can be had for 59.99. I'm interested to know what you decide and how you end up liking it!
  19. Max drag 11 lbs (Curado) versus max drag 24 lbs (STX)? $150 (Curado) versus $120 (STX)? Curado = 1.17oz drag per dollar spent while STX = 3.2oz drag per dollar spent. WOW! STX: Line Capacity: 12lbs/140yds Gear ratio: 6:4:1 IPT: 27.5in Weight: 8.75 oz Bearings: 10+1RB Curado: LC: 14/110 Weight: 7.6oz Bearings: 6BB, 1RB I just bought a STX myself and for your applications and the cheap price, the STX makes even more sense for you. With your breaks off why even worry about the breaking system?
  20. Thanks for the tip, I'll have to go grab some!
  21. A six foot rod would be harder to cast as far but conversely should offer better accuracy.
  22. So I just saw a deal to get a Revo STX-HS and made the impulse buy. Now I have the "problem" of needing a rod for the reel. I just started fishing earlier this year and so far I only own a BPS pro qualifer reel in 6:3:1 ratio paired with a St. Croix MOJO. The model I have is MBC66MF which is 6'6'', medium power, fast action, 10-17 lbs line weight and 1/4-5/8 lure wt - supposedly designed for jerkbait/topwater. In the near future I also plan to purchase a loomis or kistler rod and lightweight spinning reel to use exclusively for dropshotting and shaky head. I have a birthday coming up so I figure I'll ask for a rod to pair with the STX Since I'm not buying, I figure I'll swing for the fences and ask for something good. If you were in my shoes, what rod would you get? I'm not sure exactly what technique I'm hoping to use for this reel, but if you have experience with it, I would love to know if it does anything extremely well and other things not so well. Thanks guys.
  23. Great pics, thanks Glenn. TT claims the Abu rod debuts mid 2010 in time for the BM Classic, this info conflicts with what's posted here.
  24. Dynamite. ;D
  25. I have a meticulously organized tackle bag with boxes. One of the boxes holds a variety of solf plastics with about 2-3 of each model/color. I carry another shoulder bag that holds all of the zip lock baggies with the remaining plastics. Instead of going to my organized plano tackle box, I haphazardly dig through my shoulder bag to retreive a plastic from a zip lock because I feel like they're somehow fresher/more oily/luckier.
