  1. Ok, the lake chain I fish primarily has very little top water slop but an abundance of tall grass (grass reaching the surface in 10 fow). I have found jigs work wonders, T-rigged soft plastics work great (weighted and unweighted), buzz baits, frogs, moss boss and other top waters usually perform well. Issue I have is there is not enough top water slop to flip heavy jigs / punch into. There is to much grass to use a crank without clearing weeds every cast, spinner baits perform very well, but still bring weeds back to the boat maybe 1/5 casts, though I rip them through the thick stuff. What are some other weedless applications that would be effective in these conditions that I may be overlooking?
  2. Good discovery Rhino, I myself haven't fished soft shad swimbaits yet may have to give them a shot this weekend.
  3. I agree for the most part, though I have a reservation that is most likely just a fault of my own. I use 6'10-7'6 rods predominantly and always have. Though when skipping lures I find it MUCH easier to do on a 6' rod (that I normally do not use) than any of the 7'ish rods that I am more experienced using. Not sure why just seems to have more control. Though that is the only instance I can think of.

  6. This is new to me... what is the purpose of that?
  7. I'm right handed and use a left handed retrieve spin caster and left handed retrieve bait caster. IMO its all preference. I just feel holding the rod in my right hand I have more control on hook sets and guiding the fish.
  8. lol
  9. Upsetting I just got a used stx for 115 today. 5 bucks more for brand new. Bah what luck.

    break in...

Wasn't about compairing calibur from what I understood but that a .45 was An excessive calibur to stop a human. They basically argued that a 9mm would have been suficient
  11. It was actually an inlet right next to where the yahara river flowage connects with lake Waubesa. Not a bad area, was a great current running through there. Unfortunately we dont get much surface slop, the slop in the pictures is the thickest stuff Ive seen out here.
  12. Went out fishing with a friend tonight, only fished about an hour. Wasn't to bad I got 3 LM, all in the 1.5-2# area. He got a 1.5# and a baby, probabably about 7" and he had a northern on the line was about 25-30" on his first cast. Tossed his spinner at the boat. I attached some pics of the area we fished today. We also saw a guy catch a big ol toad on a frog lure as we were heading back to the launch. Was rather funny. We were fishing about 10 FOW and the grass was almost on the surface. All my hits came from either ripping a spinner through the big patches or when I bounced a jig up out of the thick stuff. One of the 1.5# ers I caught (and the last, shortly before we headed back): Nothing to shake a stick at but not bad action for an hours play, would have stayed out longer but the weather was coming in hard by the end it was starting to lightning, we didn't want to get stuck out.
  13. I like 12# or 14# PLine CX for weightless rigs.
  14. Yep, but not everyone wants / can afford a designated rod for each technique so they look for the best multipurpose rod for what they want.
  15. Nice hawgs man!! Been a good year I see!
  16. I like the Powell 683c a TON. It is 6'8 MH/EF but handles more like a M/EF Powell overrates their rods. Its a great versatile rod with a solid back bone, fishes worms, spinners and shallow cranks extremely well.
  17. I've fished that lake only a few times, I don't know the exact drop off you are talking about but I have had luck there. My logs show mostly with tubes, 1/2 football jigs and T-Rigged senkos for smallies. I see in my notes that the most recent time I was there (3 weeks ago) the fish were not aggressive at all and only hitting finesse rigs.
  18. Great fish! Congrats!
  19. Man that is terrible... My birthday is coming up here (Aug 17) and wont be much better. I'm having all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed that day. To boot, my wife tells me she had scheduled a 2 day small mouth fishing trip on lake Michigan with a guide for me and a friend that will now have to be pushed back > . I normally would rather push back the wisdom teeth removal but these things have got to go asap.
  20. Hey Big M those are looking great! I throw a lot of bluegill, yellow perch and crappie patterns and must say that is one of the most accurate bluegill I have seen, would match the forage here almost perfectly if it just had a little tiny copy under the lower lip, but thats just for my area.
  21. Looking into a new cranking rod to be paired with a Revo STX: Kind of leaning towards the Loomis at this point, anyone fished these rods give me some feedback? Powell Crank Cast Rod 7' Med 704CB Loomis Crankbait Casting 903 7'6" Med Crucial Crankbait Rod 7' Medium
  22. Yeah those bags are great, I use them for my plastics, I did use them for spinnerbaits as well but still needed something better for buzzbaits, why I switched to the spinner / buzzbait combo box. Its about same thickness as most plano boxes.
  23. Just seeing what everyone considers to be certain depths of crank baits that are necessary. For example Rapala carries DT 4,6,10,14,16. Now my question to you is this: Do you carry a range of depths that vast? Or, do you carry certain key depths, if so what depths do you select? I for instance love cranking, probably my favorite way to fish. I carry my 4 favorite colors (Bluegill, Shad, Hot Mustard and Yellow Perch) in DT 6, 10 and 14. Though that is my key depth range for cranking, I'm not huge on deep cranking but love shallow to mid depth cranking. Now do you think it's a necessity for me to be carrying a 10' crank or could I cut down on tackle and stick to 6 and 14 as the 14 can still be worked on the bottom in 10'. Just trying to get an idea what everyone else does.
