  1. I have a feeling the majority of fast food restaurants use a similar grade... its fast food... its cheap... get what you pay for.
  2. Yesterday was rough, 9-11 brings back memories of many of my close friends who gave their lives in Iraq and some (more recently) in Afghanistan. This day will bring our nation together for many years to come, but let us not forget the daily war that continues as young men and women give their lives for our freedoms. Let us not forget: http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/oif-phantom-fury-fallujah.htm RIP: you are all missed. J. Poindexter B. Adams T. Folmar J. Kim J. Baro R. Warns J. Davenport Remember the 4343 so far. This is not just a list, these men and woman gave their lives for us. A flag flies 365 days a year outside my home for them. http://www.icasualties.org/Iraq/Nationality.aspx?hndQry=US
  3. The Dobyn's rods thread got me to think about some things. I had never fished Dobyns rods, the thread sparked my interest and I fished with a buddy who has a few and I borrowed two from him to compare with my Powell's. I matched up a Dobyns 735c with my Powell 735c, both mounted with an STX-HS, along with a Powell 704c and a Dobyns 704c both mounted with an STX. I then headed out for the frog fields. Both rods behaved so similarly it was insane. Both were extremely sensitive, performed their specified tasks perfectly. I knew these two manufacturers rods are very similar. I would like to see some constructive comparison of these two types of rods. What the main differences are (besides cosmetics). Upon investigation into this I found out that Gary Dobyns actually helped create the Powell MAX line of rods. Powell was originally a fly fishing rod company and Dobyns presented it to the Bass world. Here are a few quotes I found interesting: Keith Bryan "I had some help from Gary Dobyns adding a few bass rods in the current product line but mainly, he helped us get into a few stores in the west and one or two stores out of state. In 2005 Powell attended the ICAST show to launch the new bass rod line into the market." "Published on: 3/29/2006 Last Visited: 2/11/2009 Gary Dobyns involvement in Powell's Max Bass Rods help create a bona fide hit for bassers " This all being said I honestly feel both of these rods are spectacular. I am curious how Dobyns customer support is? I had an issue with one of my Powells, I called the customer service number listed on their website and talked to none other than Keith Bryan himself. My problem was resolved within 3 business days.
  4. Isn't chipper in his 50's by now?
  5. what a beast...
  6. haha nice one!
  7. I just heard about this last night, sounds very cool.
  8. I have used the brand you suggested as well, and can 2nd this statement... had no more hang up issues with the secret weapon spinner than any other quality brand.
  9. Welcome again!
  10. There is nothing you can or should do to stop that boat. Let it hit the rocks, the owner should have insurance and will get a crash related settlement. No reason to try and do something crazy like board the moving boat and risk lives. The guys in this video did the right thing, radioed authorities and followed the boat.
  11. Hm maybe be interesting to build one, I may give that a try. I'll have to do quite a bit of reading as I have no idea where to even begin.
  12. Can cork grips be completely replaced? For example, if I wanted to replace my cork grips with EVA Foam: A) Could it be done? Would it completely throw off the balance of the rod C) What price range per rod for parts and labor would I be looking at? Or even replacing it with new cork grips? Reason I ask is, my father has a bunch of older BPS rods form when fished tournaments in college. Some of them are a bit chipped up and cracked from the wear of time. I thought it would be a nice gift to get them all replaced for him.
  13. Looks great! Let us know what you think after you fish it.
  14. That is the vengeance not the vendetta isn't it?
  15. I agree I was trying to reference a curado for you earlier but I much prefer the STX for frogs and jigs.
  16. These walmart deals are not the same everywhere.
  17. Jigs I use paca craws / baby paca craws spinners I use Yum Booge Tails or the *** equivilent. Otherwise a 4-5" grub or twin tail grub.
  18. Chatterbaits and Senkos. There was a point when I fished senkos all the time... now I just don't use them nearly as much as I should. Especially wacky senkos...
  19. I'm waiting for 11/11/11 the sky will fall! ;D
  20. Wouldn't worry about it to much my auto pick strategy worked... some what... :-/
  21. Green Bay: 10-6
  22. To answer your question directly: I prefer a 7.x:1 when fishing frogs. Lets you get into the strike zone, and back up for another cast faster once you leave the strike zone. You can always slow your retrieve. That being said, I frog fish with an STX, which has a higher drag (the HS has 18# drag) setting which is also very important fishing frogs in thick slop. The curado's drag setting is rated much lower in the same speed(11 for the 7 and 12 for the 5). So if I were to fish put a curado on a frog rod, it would be the 300 (drag rating of 15#)or in my case 301, sine it has the higher drag setting of them, would be the compromise between retrieve speed and drag. Some think 15 or 18# of drag is over kill.. if your like minded and think 11# of drag will be sufficient for your needs then grab the 200E7.
  23. I got a variety of 5 different brands to try out. I'm not so sure about the bandit 100's good reviews from you all but I'm not to sure about the 1/4oz weight
  24. +1
