  1. I bought some of this junk at cabelas. I got the 15lb stuff and I cant cast it without backlash. I wouldnt buy it again, I wouldnt accept it for free either. Nothing makes for a more dissapointing fishing trip that equipment failure. Stay away from this junk!
  2. Thanks, it makes me feel better just knowing that I am not the only one who has had trouble with these brands. I will have to grab the trilene because I only have a cabelas handy. I make a trip to BPS a couple of times a year, but most of my BPS purchases are online. Since I am back out fishing tomorrow morning I dont have time to wait. Oh darn, I have to go to Cabelas today.
  3. I am having wicked over run with 15lb flurocarbon. I have tried 2 different brands. Is it me, or have I uncovered some sort of conspiracy? I have fished 17 with no trouble, and I have fished smaller with no trouble. I have a reel with 15lb mono on it with no trouble. Am I doing something wrong? I have used Cabelas 100% and Vicious fluro (I am not 100% satisfied with either brand, but I didnt want to pay the 19 bucks for a spool of trilene) Any thoughts?
  4. Thanks for the help, that got me running. I am still going to need to find a manual to maintain her. Is it worth getting the parts manual too? There is a parts # manual available that I think might be handy, but I dont know. Do you have any insight on that?
  5. Does anyone know where I can get a service/repair manual for this motor online? I dont mean buy it, I mean down loadable in an Adobe format? Free would be best, but I can afford a few bucks. I just picked up this motor on ebay, and need to learn how to use it. I have never seen anything with a low speed fuel mixture control. Can anyone help?
  6. Did I catch any fish? > What kind of a question is that? Of course I caught fish, that what we do here isnt it? Just kidding, but yes, I did have a good outing. I was carolina rigging them with about a 22" leader to a 1/2 ounce bullet and a glass bead. To finish the rig I used an Eagle Claw 4/0 strait shank worm hook with the Jalapeno Biffle-o lizard. I sat in about 8' of water that tapered slowly to 14ish feet and slowly dragged the lizard deep to shallow. This worked great until it started raining. Then I put on a white and black spinner and fished it just under the surface and continued catching smallies, and one largemouth. Does that answer that question?
  7. I went out yesterday with those new Biffle-O Lizards. All I can say is wow. The hollow body holds gel style attractants very well. and the floating actions works very well for carolina rigging. Has anyone tried these yet? I bought a pack of Jalapeno pepper, and what a great new plastic.
  8. Wow, the fist trip out with the new stradic was a success! I still prefer fishing baitcasters, but I have to give this reel its props! Silky smooth operation and very light to boot. I put 8lb trilene on it. I brought in a 3lb large mouth without any trouble. Now I just have to test its longevity. Thanks for everyones help!
  9. Not that I think this forum is biased or anything, but thanks for the help! Are there any quantum fans here?
  10. I just received my new Stradic 2500 from tackle warehouse. What a reel!! All I can say is tomorrow cant come soon enough. I have paired it with my new 7'2" Carrot Stix spinning rod and I cant wait to slam some smallies!! Should be a post spawn situation so wish me luck... I need to locate some structure between deep water and the spawning flats.
  11. Doesnt using a fluro leader defeat the purpose of using braid? The fluro would break before the braid, so why use braid? I just run all fluro. What are your thoughts?
  12. I think a lot of it depends on where you fish more than what you fish with. If the water is dirty, or you plan on fishing heavy cover I wouldnt worry about using a leader. If you are fishing open water with little cover, or very clear water you might not want to bother with braid at all. I have found that a 15-17lb flurocarbon does the job for me. Its pretty abrasion resistant, and harder for fish to see. I also think it sits better on a baitcast spool too. Not that I am trying to change you mind, but I would recommend taking the fishing conditions into consideration more so even than the lures you will be using. I hope that helps, good luck!
  13. Gotta have a Wave Worm Tiki Stick in sweet potato pie, or bruised orange. Anyone else hear what the Tiki Man is saying?
  14. Reel Mech, I have an older citica that is in pieces. I got it in pieces, and dont know what shape its in. How much would you charge to put it back together? Is it a reel worth fixing?
  15. Sorry, I didnt specify but I meant the older model, the light blue one. Great reel, great price!
  16. Hey everyone, I just have to weigh in on this because I was in your shoes not long ago. I would tell you to see if you can find a store, or ebay with left over Quantum Tour Edition PT baitcaster. I tried one, you can pick them up for around 100-120 brand new in a couple of different gear ratios. They are awesome reels, especially for the price. Anyway, good luck with your decision. If you are shopping in that price range you probably wont go wrong.
  17. I gotta agree too. I bought a purist on ebay that was new. It hasnt fallen apart yet (3 years of light use) but it creaks and flexes all the time. I have never used it for any heavy work either. I run 8lb test and use it for pond fishing. Unless pfleuger has revamped it recently the composite body and side covers wont last long. I would look at pinnacle if you are looking for features packed into a modest price. I had a pinnacle pro that was rock solid. That reel is as good or maybe better than my quantum code.
  18. Not to sound rude, but what does that mean? How are you biased? Do you work for one of those companies and are you about to spill some insider information that would sway my choice drastically in one way or another? Or do you just not like spinning reels and only use spincast, and casting tackle? Not that there is anything wrong with that. I prefer casting tackle myself, but thin line smallies are easier with spinning gear.
  19. So, am I wrong in saying that the Shimano is probably the way you all would recommend that I go?
  20. Which one would you buy to put on a 7'2" Carrot Stix drop shot rod?
