  1. I wasn't familiar with it, but a brief search indicates it's a thing of the past.
  2. I'm no scientist, but I know that pure catch and release is not always a good idea for certain bodies of water. For some waters, selective harvest is a better idea. Here's one article here: http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/selective_harvest_bass.html
  3. I don't know what this sunglass case or its zipper looks like, but a tailor shop can replace zippers. I replaced a zipper on one of the pockets on my Cabela's tackle bag for $12 last year (reimbursed by Cabela's).
  4. I never fished from a kayak, but I have a canoe and I get blown around at trolling speed at times. I think maybe kayaks get blown around less, but I've spoken to a few kayakers who say they get blown around pretty good too. I fish shallow soft-bottomed areas and a 5# dumbbell used as an anchor holds in any wind. When I'm fishing vegetation, slime mats or fairly thick lily pads will hold. Only you know exactly what you want with regards to boat size, weight, style, method of transporting it, storing it and other factors.
  5. It's been that way for years, that the company had to collect sales tax if they had a physical business presence in the state. However, we are responsible for the tax if the seller doesn't collect it, but, not surprisingly, nobody reports it. New York and maybe other states as well have closed part of that loophole, but it's easy to envision new laws requiring large mail order and Internet sellers to collect taxes for all states, regardless of whether or not they have a presence in the state.
  6. 1950. They also won the NIT that year and, as far as I know, the only team ever to win both in the same year. In those days the NIT was a big deal.
  7. I don't believe "V" coached here.
  8. I'm no expert on boat prices, but $200 for a new boat might be quite a challenge. If you're willing to consider used, who knows, a decent john boat might be available at that price.

Does anyone know how these are measured? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0001630314667a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=screw+eyes&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 For example, on the 3/4", what is it exactly that measures 3/4"?
  11. I've dealt with Cabela's from day one of my fishing. They're a great company to do business with and have outstanding customer service (which is not to imply that Bass Pro Shops doesn't). Unfortunately, they don't have the selection that BPS has, although they do have items I want that BPS doesn't. If they have something you want, I'd have no qualms whatsoever about placing an order.
  12. The good depth ranges are the depths that you want to fish. The selection of crankbaits out there can be pretty daunting. For openers, I'd get a few from a well-known brand, several of which have already been mentioned here. I don't consider color near the top of my list, but I'd get two colors to start. One is muted, such as shad or bluegill and the other is louder, such as firetiger. From shore I'd use shallow baits unless your water isn't the weedy stuff that I normally fish. Give them a good chance, crankbaits are too good a fish attractor to not have in your arsenal.
  13. Shanahan--says he'll take a year off, but I think he'd accept a good offer now. Schottenheimer--on the sidelines, although I think he'd be better than a lot of existing coaches. I'd take him for the Bills in a heartbeat in place of Jauron. Mangini--appears to be the front runner for Cleveland. Dungy--no announcement yet. Either Indy or rocking chair.
  14. I think testing the breaking strength of lines is better because your conclusion would have some validity. Trying to test lures, colors, scents, etc. is near-impossible. With so many variables in fishing, how could you catch enough fish, over a long enough period of time, under controlled conditions, to draw a valid conclusion? Besides, even if one were to attempt it, it would have to take more time than you will spend as a senior.
  15. I don't place high importance on color, but I have to use something. I go with something quiet, like shad or bluegill, and something louder, such as firetiger. I might be 100% wrong, but I have enough confidence to think that I wouldn't catch any more fish with different colors or a wider selection.
  16. "Vest or backpack??" Neither works for me. I carry too much for a vest and a backpack isn't accessible enough. I've always preferred a shoulder bag. While lipping a bass with my left hand I can use my right hand to get pliers, measuring tape, scale, or whatever. But that's a personal preference. Whatever works for you is the right choice.
  17. All other things being equal, a bigger spool will cause fewer line problems. Basically because for a given casting distance there will be fewer line revolutions, or for a given number of line revolutions the cast will go farther. Larger spools also reduce memory and twist problems. I use Daiwa 2500 spools and they're fine for 10-12# line, assuming the line is one of the spinning-friendly types.
  18. It's based on business days. http://www.fedex.com/us/services/us/so.html
  19. Agreed.
  20. In addition to the spinners and spoons, crankbaits, such as Floating Rapalas, and other lures, like a grub on a jighead, will work. For the larger trout that I cast for from Lake Ontario piers, lipless cranks are my favorite.
  21. My wife is lactose intolerant. I don't know the range of symptoms, but with her, it goes right through her, she's never thrown up from it. Taking Lactaid is no guarantee, it depends on the degree of intolerance and the type and quantity of dairy product consumed. I understand you're sick of doctors' offices, but you're hurting only yourself if you don't continue with it until the proper diagnosis is made. Good luck.
  22. If you're near a Gander Mountain, their private brand is worth looking at. I'm very pleased with mine, which cost $60.
  23. I've used Daiwa 2500-sized reels for years with 10-12# mono without any particular problems, but they were spinning-friendly lines, such as Stren or Trilene XL. I've been using more 15# Power Pro in the last couple of years, but not in rocky places like your quarry. I'm not sure, but I think Daiwa's 2500 might be a little bigger than Shimano's.
  24. Lipless are often recommended for fishing over grass, letting the bait catch the grass and ripping it free. However, there aren't always hard and fast rules on when to use what. One hard and fast rule that I'd suggest is to use these baits until you're comfortable with them because they're too good to not have in your arsenal. I'd suggest the same for spinnerbaits.
  25. One way to reduce the effect of memory whether or not the line has been reversed or not is to tie the line to something before you start, walk off more than a cast's worth, then lift the rod to tighten and stretch it before reeling it back on.
