  1. So I wake up this morning and get to work only to find out y'all still don't have them skin mounts banned yet??
  2. That isn't quite right, he isn't fishing the Classic because he isn't fishing the Elite Series. Ott will be there to hand the trophy off to the new champion. "When we chose to fish the Bass Pro Tour instead of the Elite Series, we knew this would be the last Bassmaster Classic I would qualify for. Per B.A.S.S. rules, you must fish the Elite Series in order to receive your automatic berth for the next year." -Ott Defoe
  3. Bull Shad are $50-$90 depending on size. If $14 is too much for you then it doesn't really matter how great the Bull Shad is. I've had really good success with them and do think they are worth the price. The H20 baits have good movement and I've caught fish on them, that is a good place to start. You aren't going to find much in the sub $15 hard swimbait world that is going to be worth spending your money on. There is a reason those baits cost what they do.
  4. Heavy Hitters Tournament https://majorleaguefishing.com/featured/major-league-fishing-adds-heavy-hitters-to-the-2020-bass-pro-tour-schedule/
  5. My old man still gets frustrated with me when I throw bass (or any game fish) back. In his mind fishing just for the sport of it is a waste of time and I'm throwing back food. I've told him before that I can go buy catfish filets for $3.99 lb at the grocery store, it doesn't help my cause. ? The flip side is my state takes very good care of our fisheries and has an aggressive stocking program. I have no problem keeping fish to eat, I just don't do it myself very often, unless I'm with my dad.
  6. I think he's talking about the first one, the one the "base" is modeled after. It's a pretty poor argument. OP, I admire your passion for this topic but I feel like you're barking up the wrong tree.
  7. It's February on a cold, muddy, prespawn lake in Alabama, that's why they aren't using spinning gear. Guys are power fishing. It doesn't have anything to do with a 2 pound minimum and everything to do with conditions.
  8. You should check out VooDoo rods . com and look at their Matagi parts. Matagi is a Japanese company that makes high end rod building components, they have a lot of really cool stuff. Mudhole also sells some cool carbon fiber stuff, including reel seat nuts. Anyway, really nice rods. There are some really talented builders out there doing great work.
  9. Those are great looking rods, what specs exactly are you curious about? Blank specs or parts specs? I'm only asking because those parts shouldn't be hard to track down. I've been to a couple of seminars where Mark Pack was speaking and talked to him a couple of times, he seems like a great guy and a heck of a fisherman. Didn't know he built rods too.
  10. For sure, the weights and the standings definitely would have been different if 1 lbers were counted. I just meant that I don't think guys would have fished much differently if 1 lbers were still in play. I don't think there was a huge difference in targeting 1's vs 2's this week on Eufaula. In other events at a different time of year and on a different lake that might change but in this event where bites were hard to come by, I think guys were just trying to catch fish anywhere they could. I am in favor of the 2 pound minimum too but I do think it will probably have to be adjusted depending on where they go. The 2 events on Table Rock last year, where everyone started complaining about MLF being a "dink fest" there just weren't very many 2 lb+ fish caught. It would make a frustrating event to fish and watch if 85% of the fish caught couldn't be counted.
  11. I don't think it would have made much difference at all. These guys are just trying to catch fish, period. On some lakes it might make a difference but I don't think it has this week.
  12. It's also comes off a bit hypocritical to complain about people doing whatever they please with fish they legally caught while also fishing and posing for pictures with fish yourself. Do you think all those fish you caught lived? Do you think your own fishing pressure on tiny ponds has no adverse effect? The vast majority of us do our best to be good stewards of the waters we fish and the fish we catch. Nobody wants to see their honey hole get burned by people not respecting the resource but I think you need to take a breath...and call a game warden if you see something illegal happening.
  13. They are guaranteed a spot in the final round and the money and points that come with that. I'm sure they would take that over an extra day in the big fish thing and possibly finishing 40th overall.
  14. He definitely could have, 5 fish a day most likely would have gotten him through to the next round. It does make you wonder though if mentally he approached it differently and just got spun out, he didn't catch a single fish.
  15. My initial thought is it might be a bit stiff but I've really only used it as a heavy jig rod 1/2oz and up.
  16. I agree with you, he does seem like a guy that is better suited to a 5 fish format. He very well may be plotting his way back.
  17. The Chickamauga tournament has been postponed due to high water. The Classic is next, March 6-8 Lake Guntersville.
  18. Yeah, really surprising to see someone like Christie fail to catch a keeper after 2 days on Eufaula prespawn. It seems tailor made for his skill set. Edwin and Ike both had really tough day 1's but rallied to make the cut on day 2. You win some and lose some I guess.

  20. I might be interpreting the question differently than some of you but for me it's frogs and weightless plastics, like Senkos and Flukes. Frogs don't always get the bait well and with weightless plastics bite detection, line management and line stretch can be an issue. Plus frogs and plastics generally use a big heavy hook so driving it in can be a problem. Treble hooked baits are pretty easy as you don't have to slam a hookset to drive the hook in and the baits are moving already so you just sweep into it and momentum usually hooks them. I also change out the majority of my hooks so I don't lose many fish once hooked up.
  21. Nice, it's cool to see rookies do well. I went in expecting a normal St Johns slugfest but the weather threw a wrench into the plans. It kind of turns into a crapshoot after that. I'll get the points back at Chickamauga next week.
  22. Off to a great start, 58 out of 69?‍♂️
  23. So sad
  24. Awesome, I'm in! Thanks for taking the lead again @fishballer06
  25. Criminals and people who intend to do harm don't care about laws and will be able to get their hands on guns regardless of those laws. People scream about gun control but never really have any answers or ideas as to how that is actually going to help anything. Until you can make it so that people don't want to kill other people, it's going to keep happening and that's the sad, scary truth.
