I may have been under the wrong impression but I always thought backlash at the beginning of the cast is controlled by the spool tension or cast control and backlash at the end is controlled by brake settings. The SLX MGL 70 instructions say just the opposite.
“if backlash occurs at the beginning adjust with Shimano Variable Brake System. If backlash occurs at the end, adjust friction cast control.”
It’s my first Shimano. Is there something different with this brand?
Thanks, I guess I’m not looking at BFS, which I think is about 1/8 oz lures. Lightest I throw is TX rig 4” Senko with 1/8 oz tungsten. That new Shimano Curado looks good too
Looking for a light BFS reel. I see both of these get good reviews and seem to have shallow spools. Does anyone have a comparison or opinion on either one handling baits about 3/16 oz. or less?
With no boat, I fish several public ponds like the one you described. Ned Rig 1/15 oz. Z-Man Finesse Shroomz Jig Head with Z-Man Finesse TRD green pumpkin or California Craw. Also 1/8 weight with a black trick worm with either a 2/0 or 3/0 hook. A 2/0 you might need to cut the tip of the worm to get the point in the middle.
Thanks I have 2 of the old Tournament Pros and 1 Tournament Lite. I really like them. I was thinking for the price this might be a nice reel to toss small lures. At that price I might pull the trigger
Usually 2-2 1/2# is the limit. Bigger ones don’t seem to go after the really light, small lures I throw on it. I have a St Croix legend 6’10” ML XFast for things like Ned rigs and weightless trick worms
I lube my reels every January. They have been sitting in my garage during the Summer heat in Texas. Now, I’m getting ready for the fall. Does the heat affect the oil and grease? Should I lube them now, too? Thanks for any info.
St Croix Legend ML 6’10” with a Daiwa Tatula LT 2000 For a less expensive rod go with the St Croix Mojo 6’10” ML I use 8# Suffix nanobraid to a 8# Invizix leader
