  1. I have had a lot of success with throwing chrome/blue and chrome/black. 90% of the days it's sunny with clear water. And generally if the water is murky, I throw charteuse. Can you guys recommend other color options that work well with cloudy, clear water. Or just give me some basics on when to use which colors. Thanks in advance. PS- I'm fishing over vegetation, depth 1-12ft.
  2. What is everyones favorite Summertime pattern/lure/bait? I fish a grassy lake, max depth 20ft. Some structure, but mostly grass. Laydown trees on banks. Mainlake or coves during summer. Thanks for any and all tips tactics and opinions.
  3. I'll try slowing down. A couple guys suggested a jig. One guy said swim/bounce it just ticking the grass. I assume I'm still looking for reaction bites, since it's prespawn. I would also think they should be feeding heavily to fatten up for spawn.
  4. I'm looking for a few tips or new tactics. I fish a lake that is just not producing very well this year. In the past I've had no problems, but this year everyone I talk to is having problems catching good fish. Good, meaning 15inches or bigger. There is some grass and docks and laydowns and lillypads(not actually up yet) and some riprap. Pretty shallow lake, deepest maybe 20ft. I've been throwing traps and crankbaits and catching some but not many over 15in. I've tried fishing the flats, ripping it out of grass, burning it. Some guys have been throwing chatterbaits, and jigs around docks. Oh and it's still prespawn, so I would think they would be feeding heavily to fatten up for the spawn. I haven't seen any cruisers yet. What should I try? Thanks for any and ALL opinions.
  5. In Illinois. If I catch a bluegill in that body of water. I can use it for catfish?
  6. I live in Illinois as well. So, does that mean I can use bluegil from my pond for catfish on the river? So, this is another instance where it pays to read up on your own state/local laws to ensure that you are not breaking any.
  7. Thanks for all the advise!!! My buddy has a color unit. What does the color represent vs blk/wht? I'll probably get the gps so I can mark stuff. Although I'm considering getting one of the cheaper models this year and upgrading in a year or two, to a side finder. Thats the main reason I don't want to spend too much this year.
  8. Do I really need gps? I fish mostly the same lake and areas of the river. Would there be any real benefit for me to get the gps? I have a jonboat with a 12v trolling motor, and 1battery in the boat. Will I have to put another battery in my boat to be able to run both for 6-8hrs? Or will 1fully charged battery work. Thanks
  9. I'm looking to get a fishfinder/depthfinder. I have fished for bass for years without one, and recently started fishing with a guy that has one. I'm looking to get a user friendly, good quality fishfinder. I have no idea what I'm looking at when I search them. I'm looking to spend Under $300 if possible but if I have to spend a bit more I could stretch it to $400 or possibly $500 if everyone agrees a certain model is top notch. Please advise me on which models are "best buys" Or which models to stay away from. I'm ok with a discontinued model if it's good for the price. Thanks in advance.
  10. What is your "go to" postspawn technic? Most of the lakes I'll be fishing are either entering or are in postspawn conditions. Please include type of bait if you say topwater. Thanks!!!
