  1. I bought a cranking skeet reese rod early spring with the intent of returning it, until I could find something else I liked, but ive kept it ever since. Its a pretty decent rod for 90 bucks. The only thing I would kind of complain about is the lack of sensitivity, it seems to not really pick up any movement of my crankbaits in the water and/or when I smack it against stumps or rocks. Other than that its a decent rod.
  2. I know there are a lot of these topics ive been reading around and am still having a hard time deciding what works for best and what i should get. I just became a member of a bass club, and we will be doing 10 tournys this year, so id like to get a solid 5 setups to start. im thinking Cranking, Flipping/pitching, Worm/Jig, Topwater/frog, and spinnerbaits. Im kind of starting from scratch this season. Right now for reels I have a Revo S, Citica, BPS Pro qualifier, and a Pleuger asaro. Now im looking to get new rods to 5 setups. I'm interested in the Fenwick HMG, Veritas, BPS . series which i have owned and liked alot. I need some help deciding what sizes and action I should be getting on to the particular situations.
  3. I'm a big fan of aluminum bass boats, like the G3 ones, bass trackers, and the triton aluminum bass boats and i could keep going on and on. But i love all bass boats haha i just wish i had one :'(
  4. From reading some of your opinions, I kind of shied away from gettin the boat. He didnt really cooperate with taking the boat out for a test run to check everything. Another thing is that 80HP merc, I dont really want that big of a motor on it (since its max'd out). So I dont know if the 80HP will beat on the transom, maybe thats why it had to get replaced in the first place?
  5. you guys are more than helpful! Thanks for all the great opinions. The dobyns rods seem like a prime choice but im going to have to pass until i can persuade myself to spend the cash on one. Ive heard some good things on the powell rods, and the lifetime warranty is a definte plus. Just out of curiosity has anyone had bad or good experiences with the bass pro extreme series rods?
  6. I appreciate the quick response! i am actually going to check those out right now. fortunately ill be getting my tax return so that could help fund a much better setup as you propose.
  7. I have been looking and reading on here for a good flippin/pitching rod, but im still stumped. I was originally going to get the st. croix bass mojo series rods, but after reading on here, i changed my mind. Then i was thinking about the new Skeet Reese rods, and i wasnt really feeling them to much. I talked to one guy that uses the Bass pro shops extreme rods, and he says he uses those for just about everything, loves them and has no problems. They are on sale on BPS for $69 regularly $99.. but the shipping is what gets ya. I dont really want to spend over 100, although i just might go a 'bit' over 100 if it is a highly recommended rod... Anyone have any ideas?! 8-)
  8. Thanks everyone for the great advice! If i end up getting the boat ill take some pictures and post them up!
  9. I'm looking to get some more experienced opinions on a possible purchase for me. Like the title says.. The boat is a 1983 Bass Tracker tournament tx17, it has a 1990 tracker bunk style trailer. 80hp mercury(Max'd out for this boat)outboard with hydrolic tilt and steering, it has the original trolling motor, 3 batteries only like a year and a half old, 2 gas tanks, 2 oars, 3 life jackets, Brand new transom, new trailer lights, comes with boat cover and tarp. He said the motor runs, batteries just need to be charged, no leaks. The floor decking is solid, and is pretty much good to go. He was asking 1800 the only reason hes sellin it is because he has no where to store it.. i offered him 1200 and he agreed on that price. So what do you guys think? A good first bass boat?
  10. Thanks alot for all the info guys! i really appreciate the help. I was looking into getting st. croix mojo.. a guy i know swears by st. croix so i was wondering if that mojo is a good rod? I just dont want to spend 100 on it and if it snaps because its not that great of quality, i dont want to have to buy another or put money into repair cost. As far as my budget i dont think id go over 150. im thinking 100 thats how much those mojo's are rougly.
  11. I just picked up a brand new Revo S for 50 bucks pretty sick deal... I was just curious on what rod i could use for Pitching, And big topwaters like buzzbaits and super spooks. or if it would be a bad idea to do that. im new to this so please dont flame. just need some help.. thanks!
  12. I was there this past monday, but i rented a boat. they will let you rent theirs because their boats dont leave quabbin waters. I work for DCR and they say it is a serious matter so they wont let you bring any private boats in for a maximum of 45 days. I I also heard that Quabbin Reservoir's calcium content is high, i guess thats a good defense against the zebra mussels.
