  2. Has anyone been on the St. lawrence River this spring? I am looking to see what the water temps are in and around Clayton N. Y. Thnx McBurcon
  3. Has anyone fished Seneca lake in the last week ? and can you tell me what the water temps were ? Is it prespawn or are the fish spawning? Thnx Shane
  4. Thnx for the info on the water temps , I was hoping water was still in the 40's in the main channel. I will be getting up in about 4 more weeks , water should be in the upper 50's I hope.
  5. Has anyone been on the St. Lawrence in the Cape Vincent - Clayton area fishing? I am looking for the water temps. Thnx in adavance
  6. Best time of year to fish the St. Lawrence is the first week of bass season ( third saturday in june is opening day )...Generally 2 to 8 ft close to deeper water ( 20 ft ) seems to the best areas for your 5 lb class fish. Durring that week of june its not hard to boat 100+ smallies a day. I know that's true, but for those of us that haven't had the privilege of fishing in the region, it's just hard to imagine catching that many smallmouth in one outing. I will fish the Tennesse River from October through March and will not come close to 100 brown fish, total! Let me try to clarify the 100+ bass in a day. The St. lawrence seems to be getting better every year with size and numbers the last 5 to 6 years. ONLY durring the month of june have I had 100+ smallies in a day. Durring the trip I make every year I fish everyday from about 5 am to 8 pm , I stay on grindstone Island , and can be fishing in a matter of just a few minutes. I have fished in october , but it gets very rough to fish that time of year. But for me personally JUNE is the month. those 2 fish were caught out of clayton,
  7. Best time of year to fish the St. Lawrence is the first week of bass season ( third saturday in june is opening day ) . Best advice I can give is be sure to get a map of the area , and be very careful of the canadian waters. Canadian police and the U S Border patrol will check you if your fishing the border line. Use plastics ( tubes , flukes and jigs work pretty good ) . Generally 2 to 8 ft close to deeper water ( 20 ft ) seems to the best areas for your 5 lb class fish. Durring that week of june its not hard to boat 100+ smallies a day. Good Luck ! BTW thats the Mighty St. Lawrence in my photo with a 5 lb and a 4 lb 7 oz
  8. Thanks for the info on the water temps, I will be leaving virginia friday evening about 6 pm. I hope to be in the water by 7 am saturday morning. looks like the water temps will be rising as the weather starts to heat up. If your out there next week look me up , I will be in a red Ranger 518 , come on by and say hello. I usually fish between the I81 bridge to the head of grindstone island. thnx again.
  9. I am usually already somewhere around Clayton the first day of bass season. however this year I am still going , just a week later. I am wondering what the water temp is around Clayton to Carelton Island , and is the spawn over or possibly still ongoing? It looks as if the weather has been a little cool in the area this year. Any Information on the water temps would be greatly appreciated. Thnx
  10. Last year while I was at the St. Lawrence I did catch many smallies that would spit out Gobies as I landed them in the boat. The largest Gobie that I saw from a Smallie was 5". Several of those Smallies spit out as many as 4 Gobies. They must like eating them , and there is no short supply of them.
  11. Try areas between clayton and grindstone island , find water 8 to 14 ft deep next to 20 and 30 ft . use tubes and small creature baits , usually any color will work , but the greens seem to work best. I have been fishing up there for 20 + years. the last 4 years I have seen more 4 and 5 lb fish than I have ever seen. My trip last year I boated 28 4 lb + fish and 2 over 5 lb in 6 days. GOBIES are helping the weights of the smallies up there now. 5 years ago a 19" smallie only weighed 3 to 3 1/4 lbs , and last year I caught a 18" that weighed 5 lb 4 oz . Good Luck !!!!
