  1. When you catch fish like that, you'll never forget how beautiful they are. Nice fat, healthy fish.

    Jig Skirts

I am interested in buying/making some 3/8 oz. football jigs, and was going to buy the jig heads off of Barlow's. I have a couple questions about the skirts I would need and how to put them on. First, what material will I need? Silicone, rubber, I'm lost. Second, whenever I try to get the skirts on a jighead, I completely ruin the skirt. Any help? Thanks so much.
  3. And I'm not kidding. My bro and I are getting paid to catch 'gills for a friend of ours who is a catfish guide, and needs them for bait. .20 cents per gill. Anyway, yeasterday we went to a pond and litterally caught a 'gill on EVERY cast. It was ridiculous. Good sized ones too.
  4. Right now I'm using Yum chunks and they seem to be a little fragile, they rip open after like one fish. What trailers do you guys use, and which ones are the most durable?
  5. Strike King Pro Grade Football Head jigs are awesome for only like two or three bucks. The hooks are sharp, and the skirts last a really long time. Pair it with a Yum chunk and your good to go. Great for bedding fish.
  6. hahahahahahahahahahah I choked on my coffee when i saw the last picture hahahahahah
  7. With all of the specifications you stated, you need to get a Shimano Citica 200e. These reels are ridiculous. Smooth as anything. You can't beat the price, and you'll never use another reel again. It's really an amazing reel. Workhorse too. Everyone is going to say different things, but that's just cuz they haven't used a Citica.
  8. In the 7' Heavy action, which one would you choose?
  9. Lately i have been having some god-awful luck. One recent example was the biggest freakin' bass I've ever seen snapped my knot. That was the first time in my life my knot has ever failed me. Today, an 8 jumped off right as I was landing it. It was a PIG. Yesterday, I was using a Jitterbug and had a real giant on, and low and behold, she throws it. Not to mention numerous other 4-6 pounders sliding off. Well today I thought it was gonna be the same thing, as a fish I caught earlier this year (spawned out it was 8.2) jumped off after a long battle on my spinning rod and wacky-rigged Trick Worm. (Small pond, same tree) Couple minutes later, this big girl was tearin' drag off my reel, but I finally landed a pretty good fish, 6 pounds even. What an awesome fight. She inhaled a Trick Worm. http://s709.photobucket.com/albums/ww96/Fat-G-2009/?action=view&current=TrickWormBass004.jpg
  10. The light tackle set-up will be like my ultra-light. I'm not going to use it for worms or anything, just like small grubs and stuff like that.
  11. With the title of this topic, don't think that I've never been on powerfishing. This was the first time I could do it, by myself, with the right mentality. Let me just start off by saying this. I am a VERY good caster. I have AT LEAST 50+ hours of practicing in the backyard under my belt. I can get a jig in a cup from 30 yards away. One of my favorite ways of fishing is spinnerbaiting. That being said, I also love powerfishing..........with spinnerbaits. Suprise! So, the other day I go with my friend up to his fishing club for a cookout, sleepover, and a morning of fishing. Well, as it turns out, we got there early and could go out and fish for a while. Now, my friend isn't the greatest of fisherman, and, he can be downright annoying about it. He's the kind of person that just goes out and casts a worm out (ALWAYS red shad), and sits back and enjoys the evening. Nothing wrong with that, just not my style. He's also the kind that thinks it's bulls**t that the fish would EVER be suspending in a creek cahnnel. That would NEVER happen now would it? If he doesn't catch anything, the fish just weren't biting. If he loses one lure, the day is ruined. Ya da ya da ya da. I could go on and on. Anyway, we get up to the club and go out on one of his dad's friend's boats. It's this tricked out 14' jon boat. Front deck, back deack, depth finder, you get it. Oh, and by the way, really nice trolling motor. So, of course, Hunter, my friend, gets on the trolling motor first. I immediately start catching fish. Then Hunter has to go to the bathroom RELLY bad, and of course we're on the north side of a 93 acre pond, not gas motors allowed. Ten minutes later, he has to go AGAIN. Another trip from the top end of the pond. This time he tells me he's not coming back. (Silent sigh of relief) Don't get me wrong, I love this kid. He's a great guy, he just thinks I "don't fish the right way". So, I'm all by myself. I get on the trolling motor, and think to myself, "well, why not powerfish for a while"........even though I knew the fish weren't on the banks, it was still a blast Caught three pickeral, including one giant. I love powerfishing with spinnerbaits, and that was one awesome experience. Now, if i could just get my dad to buy a boat.........
  12. Hey guys. I am looking to get some new setups for my fishing. Here's what I have. Reels: Shimano Citica E7 Shimano Callisto Rods: Mostly cheap Berkley ones 6'6" MH Cherrywood- guide on the tip looks like someone cut gashes in it, I sanded it down, but it's not perfect. 2- 6' MH Berkley Bionix- Relly not a bad rod. Both brand new. Here's what I am looking to do. I want to get two NEW, NICE rods. Now, keep in mind, I am also about to get my learners permit, so I need to not be buyin' G-Loomises. I use a lot of jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, and am about to get into swimbaits, and a lot of flippin'/pitchin'. Also, I mostly bank fish in small ponds. I want to get a Mojo in the 7' Heavy action. I will use this for flippin/pitchin', swimbaits, and jigs, and I will pair this up with my citica, full o' braid. I also want to get another Citica to put on a 6'6" MH Mojo (maybe), to use for spinnerbaits, worms, etc, with 14 lb mono. I am not going to buy flouro, too much money. Then for my lite-tackle set-up. I am thinking of going with a Shimano Sahara, paired up with a Shimano Clarus 5'6" Light, with 4 lb line. Considering that I am on a a very tight budget, does this sound like a good option for all of the bank fishing I do?
  13. Well, it's been a year since my guide buddy, my other friend who is a biologist, and my bro got out on our smallie trip. It's so much fun man, we just go out on a river. Last time we caught close to 40 smallies. All on little white grubs and ultra-lites. It's always a blast and I am really looking forward to it. We are going as soon as the river gets down some
  14. Yeah there was a little trouble..... the fish still has it in his mouth. It was a worm though, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The fish on the other hand, I have heard the hooks dissolve/biodegrade/dissinagrate (sp) over time. Is this true?
  15. weigh, sorry
  16. Went out yestaday to a local pond, also my pond, and got 4 hours of fishing time in. Plain and simple, I caught fish. I caught a fish on my second and third cast, and they were good fish to boot. Largest of the day was probably pushing five pounds, but I didn't get a picture. I do however have a pic of a beautiful 4+ pounder. Man this thing really popped it http://s709.photobucket.com/albums/ww96/Fat-G-2009/?action=view&current=Couplegoodones003.jpg Then the rest of the day was pretty much the same. My best five probably would have gone 21-22 lbs. Pretty darn good day if you ask me. Most of fish caught on a variety of lures, from worms, senkos, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits. All in all, very fun day. P.S.- All of my fish look small!!! I promise I don't inflate the weight of the bad boys. I even weight them
  17. Try pitching a black or black/blue 3/8-1/2 oz. jig into the pads. You should get the "big bite" you're looking for. Other than that, you can always use the good ol' 10-12 in. black power worm (Dink whisperer will agree ;D)
  18. What is your favorite season to fish? Mine is early spring and fall. I love fall beacause all the leaves are off the trees and you can fish the whole day. Early spring is your best shot at catching the fish of a lifetime. (And there's no leaves on the trees ;D)
  19. When I caught my personal best a couple of weeks ago, I knew it when I set the hook. The fishes head DID NOT Move. So, immidiately, (I was using braid), I just started crankin' that bad boy in. When I saw it's head start to come up to the surface, I jerked the rod tip down really hard. Well, it may have saved me a long time of regrets, the fish wasn't really hooked well, and it probably would have come unbuttoned. The rod jerk was a life-saver. But, usually, I just watch it and enjoy it. On some occasions, if I know it's a good fish, I'll keep it down in the water.
  20. I am looking at the Quantum Code Red casting reel for my next b/c. (this is Fat-G's little bro) What is the difference performance wise between the Code Red and the Code? Thanks.
  21. Going tommorow with one of my friends to his fishing club lake. Awesome lake. They have a bunch of "hurdles" as they call them out in the middle of the pond, scattered all over the deeper water. The hurdles are four wooden post sitcking up out of the water with a mesh fence around them, then the club members sink Christmas trees and brush. Great fish attractants. Anyway, I'm hoping the cropps will be stacked up around them. Went to Dick's just now and got a bunch of Roadrunners, and also some of the extra jigheads. Boy I hope we catch some good ones. I think this lake is famous for huge crappie. Hope so . I'm actually goin' down tommorow around 7:00 PM to fish then spending the night and waking up early and fishing for a while. We decided to specifically target cropps, and keep a lot of them. Do you guys have any suggestions fro catchin' a ton o' slabs? Thanks.
  22. Yesterday we went out with the sole intention of catching some crappies. Well, it worked ;D. We really were trying to see if this pond even had cropps in it, and, they do. And some big ones at that. Next time we go, well, we're not leaving without a cooler full of them ;D Although we never do it, we actually went to the tackle store and got some minnows, and sat there with them under our bobbers. What a day. Biggest one was probably 13+ inches.
  23. I have seen people do this before. How would I do it? I want to do it on a 6'6" MH Cherrywood. Thanks in advance.
  24. Mine are as follows: (Largies) 8.16 lbs (skinny)-Jig 7.5 lbs (FAT!!!)- Spinnerbait Couple of 6's- All on Jigs Bunch o' 5's- Various Ton of 4's/4.5's- Really Various ;D
  25. Mine would be 5 pounds. I catch a ton of 4's and 4.5's. Anything above 5 for me is a great fish. Anything above seven is a hawg.
