I cleaned out my Citica the other day and it was full of dirt and grime. It was kind of nasty. This made me think of the last time I cleaned it, which I couldn't remember.
That led me to ask how you guys take care of your reels so that this doesn't happen?
I really need to start taking better care of her
Does anyone know where I can get handle to replace my current one on my Citica 200e? I've been looking around and can't find any. Or are there any cool looking custom handles that aren't a million dollars that would fit a Citica?
I'm leaning more towards a rod build. Can anyone give a list of EVERYTHING (tools, supplies, glue, EVERTHING) that I wolud need to do this project?
That would be a HUGE help!
I'm a take things apart and put 'em back together kind of guy, and I really want to custom make something to use, ie a rod, supe up a reel, etc. I don't want it to break the bank though. Any ideas? I was thinking about either getting a rod-making kit from mudhole and learning how to do that, or tuning up my Citica. Any thoughts? Where do I get parts?
Thanks!
As basically everyone knows by this point (I know, I need to pick one and shut up ) but I think I've FINALLY settled on my rod choices.
Instead of getting a spinning and casting rod, I'm going to get 2 casting. Why? I dont really use spinning that much, and I really want to have 2 nice casting rods.
Sooo.....
These are my final decisions
Powell 705c
Clarus 6'10" MHF
This will pretty much cover anything and everything for me
Ever fish with a J/M Elite? At full retail you can't find more rod per $$ even at $200.
UH I think if i was going to spend 200 on a rod i would buy a Shimano Cumara way before i ever thought about a jm elite... sic guides lifetime warranty, and super hard to beat at any price point... no if the jm elite went on sale for like 100 bucks i would think about it...
So you have not fished with one I take it?
If it's so great, why do you want to sell it?
Just a thought.
Because I got a good deal on a rod whose length matched what I wanted better. And I already had one of the same brand. Selling this one would enable me to buy another of the same brand, to help build an arsenal with the same feel......By being the same brand.
Gotcha. I'm doing that with Compre's

As a general rule, anything that you fish on the bottom (ie: jigs, worms, etc) you'll want a little stiffer of a rod, like a Medium Heavy, and any reaction bait (ie: jerkbaits, cranks, etc) you'll probably want a lighter action, such as Medium.
Mine would be BCR854 GLX paired up with a Curado 200e7, spooled with 12# Yo-Zuri.
Never handled any of these items, but with the reputation of Loomis's I can tell I would like that particular rod, and I already love my Citica, so why wouldn't I love an even nicer reel?
Now I'll open up the thread to a spinning AND casting combo.
My spinning would be a Crucial CRS-X68M paired with a Sustain 2500, 6# Yo-Zuri.
If you had to pick ONE reel, ONE rod, and ONE spool of line (brand and lb test) for ONE whole year of fishing, what would it be. You don't have to own it, or have ever touched it.
Well I've finally narrowed my jig rod option to two.
Shimano Compre CPC-X70MHB (7' MHXF)
Falcon BuCoo BCC-6-17 (7' HF)
I really wish the Compre came in a 7' HF. The Clarus does, and it's a good bit cheaper. Anyone used one?
Anyway, they both have their pros/cons.
The Compre is a MH when I really want a H, but it has an extra-fast tip, so it would probably feel like a Heavy. (Is that true?) They have a great rep, and are probably more sensitive. They also have a shorter rear grip. The long grip of my rod now drives me insane.
The BuCoo is a Heavy, but I've heard some bad reviews. Also the rear grip is kinda long.
Which would you recommend?
Most (all) of this gear has probably been accumulated
over the years. Speaking for myself, some of my
stuff was purchased in 1997. I don't trade and generally
pick up a rig or two a year, not all at once. My theory is
like Warren Buffet's investment goals: "Buy and hold forever."
And this is something I have often stated: You only "need"
three rigs:
1. Spinning combo for weightless soft plastics and light
lures. My suggestion is 6 1/2' or 7' MF.
2. Baitcaster for "treble hooks".
6 1/2' MHM.
3. Baitcaster for weighted soft plastics and jigs.
7' MHF or 7' HF.
;D ;D ;D
Good thought. I'm the same way, I buy stuff to keep. That's why I'm still trying to decide what rod to get for jigs ;D
In the next couple of years I hope to be at the point where I have five NICE combos (3 casting, 2 spinning), around $200 in each one.
