    FINALLY!

Got the skunk off my back! Went today for about 2.5 hours. Started off slop fishing with a frog. First cast yielded a strike, no hookup. Same with the second and fifth. After that cooled down I moved to a different spot and threw a t-rigged Ika to no avail. Next spot with the frog, got a BIG blow up, waited a second, and set the hook. Apparently my P-Line CXX 15 lb. decided it was a good time to give out ;D Lost the only frog I brought that day. About an hour or so later, I pitched a Senko to a little rock pile and watched that all-too familiar "tick" in the line. This little guy went about half a pound. Normally I wouldn't post a picture of such a dink, but I just wanted everyone to believe that Fat-G CAN still catch a fish. ;D Great weather today. I think some of the fish are done spawning and recovering from the love fest. The bite should pick up in a few days. I can't wait to catch a big girl.
  2. What rig is that?
  3. I might be misunderstanding the term flipping, but i am just making short underhand tosses. Either way i am getting back lashed with light finesse baits That's pitching. Try tightening the spool tension then slowly loosen it so the jig falls reasonably fast, then try engaging two+ brakes. The Curado is a great at handling light baits.
  4. Most people will say 20-25# flouro.
  5. Some of you may remember the post I made a while ago about what I could do catch some fish and get out of the funk. Well, I didn't catch any fish in the two hours I was at my ponds today, but I felt like I wanted to be there. With high school baseball and school I just didn't have time, but now we're FINALLY on Spring Break, so I can get out and wet a line. I wasn't really fishing as much as catching up with the ponds and seeing what stages the fish are in. I saw a ton of 'gills along the surface next to the algae patches, but no bass. I spotted some beds, but not many. It was tough to determine what stage of the spawn the bass were in. I can already tell my new flippin' combo is exactly what I was looking for. My Lowrider/Citica combo is so light! Switching from the flipping stick to the Lowrider felt like I wasn't even holding a rod. Anyways, it was good to get out and have that "feeling" only fisherman can describe. I'm very glad my passion has been sparked again for the upcoming season.
  6. I use braid with a 15# CXX leader and a flipping stick.
  7. Agreed. I think it was a G. Loomis. Either way, he won.
  8. I've seen the light. I love braid.
  9. Well, at least the reel is new anyways. I got my Daiwa Advantage HSTA from Brokeju a couple of days ago, which I put on my Vendetta 7'3 HXF. I think it's a sweet combo. It balances well, and is exactly what I wanted for these applications. This reel is awesome! I can easily pitch baby brush hogs with an 1/8 oz slip sinker, and it handles 1/2 oz jigs well too. It came with 50 lb P-Line braid, which I like alot. Can't wait to use it!
  10. Nice fish! Were you in the last In-fisherman?
  11. I never thought this would happen, but fishing has almost become boring. I feel like I need to try some new stuff, a new lake, SOMETHING to change it up a bit. I've probably been 8 times this year, and all have resulted in a big fat skunk. So, help me out. Should I try different times of day? New lures? New techniques? Different Lake? What should I do to get things rolling here? I went yesterday and had to convince myself to go. Of course, I didn't catch anything.
  12. It packs it together...Makes it easier to grab/pinch. Gotcha. Why do people throw up the first time?
  13. Why do you guys hit the can or whatever you do when your about to dip?
  14. I would suggest a Powell 766H with a Curado 200e7, and 65 lb PowerPro.
  15. Throw away the Vanish AND the Floroclear. Mono lasts a pretty long time. Buy new spinnerbaits.
  16. I'm glad this topic came up. For me, the single most exciting thing in fishing is pitching a jig to a laydown. The best part about it is setting the hook, but my favorite moment is the couple of seconds between the fish biting and reeling up the slack and setting some steel.
  17. x2. Btw David-Hopefully shipping it out tommorow, pending baseball practice is cancelled ;D
  18. Broke, can you get a nice long distance cast with 70 lb samurai?what would you say the equivalent in diameter is in mono or flouro? 14 lb.
  19. These look small and easy to use. I just want something that I can make fishing vids with. Are these any good? Can you put a memory card in to be able to make more than 1.5 hrs. of video? I know there are some other comparable products too.
  20. Just not my first ;D My little brother (actually he's taller than me ;D) caught his first of the year today. Second cast with a Red Eye Shad and this little lady hit. She was a solid 3, pushing 3.5. Good way to start the year for him. I'm still on the zero-train > Yes, that is blood. One of the trebles must have hit a vein, because she was hooked normally. Happily swam away to grow up and be a hoss.
  21. This isn't a "help me" or "I need advice" thread, just thought it would be interesting to see the answers. So. What rod/reel/line do you use for... Hard Jerkbaits Stick Baits Worms Spinnerbaits Crankbaits Jigs Buzzbaits Drop Shot Shakey Head Frogs Carolina Rigs Flippin'/Pitchin' Other
  22. I'm really considering going out tommorow. Supposed to be in the 50's and sunny. I have my go-to techniques for cold water (which haven't exactly been producing lately ;D) but I want to try some other things. Here are some options and characteristics of a couple of the ponds. One has a beaver dam. It is partialy on the shore, and the water-part is in about 2 feet of water. This same pond has probably a 15x10 patch of sunken logs going every which way, probably in 3 feet down to 5 feet of water. Other parts of this pond have patches of pads, which don't go too far out from the shore. A different pond has a fallen tree which is where I caught my PB late last Spring. It is in about 4 feet of water. I caught a 6 there last year in January. The same pond has a little fountain in someone's back yard which brings (I think) warmer water into the pond. I'm certain one cast with any lure could produce a fish, I just haven't been able to access it due to high water recently. That spot also has a big fallen tree, where I caught a 7.5 last Spring. In both of these ponds, there is also less-significant brushpiles along the shoreline, and even a couple of fallen trees, which go into deeper water. So, what would YOU fish in this situation? How would you fish it?
