Same. For such a stiff rod, it's extremely versitile. I throw swimbaits, frogs, jigs, plastics, and other stuff with it. I also flip with it. Great rod, especially with a Daiwa on it
Thanks. It's got a Zillion HLC spool, ceramic hybrid spool bearings, smooth-drag washers and an HSTA 4-bearing 90mm handle.
Pardon me while I retrieve my mouth from the floor...
I've only caught two big fish this year, but I think five 4 pounders. Slow is right.
However I couldn't possibly care less about the lack of big fish. I have new equipment, which I love. Found the "magic" lure. Work with a dude that has SIX world records for catfish, and also knows more about bass fishing and fishing in general than I could ever aspire to know. I have learned a ton from him. Basically, it's been a dam good year for me.
Yes it was. I'm an assistant catfish guide on the James River. One day last week we weren't catching s#!t and it was like 100 out. Our clients were bored so me and my buddy Billy Nicar decided to just swim in the deep hole. I got some diving goggles and was swimming around, following a couple smallies and a 25# flathead. I was in probably 7 FOW and swam all the way to the bottom, and the thermocline was so cold I just layed there for about a minute ;D
I just thought I would mention this. if you set the hook with slack line(with the line snapping tight) while using braid on a big fish you will likely snap your line, I have done it and seen it done pitching and flipping several times in or near heavy cover places like okeechobee, in fact it cost me quite a few spots at the southern open there by braking a fish off.
And your rod...
Actually there are better rods in that range than the ones you stated (I know I said Bucoo too). I've heard mixed reviews about Mojos and Bucoos. I know that the Shimano Compres are really good rods, as are the Lamiglas Excel series.
As for the action, I like a 7' MF rod for shakey heads. I never fish drop shots.
For the reel, I would suggest a Shimano Sahara 3000, you could find one new for ~$60.
Rod- Shimano Compre 7' M, Falcon Bucoo 7' M, etc. Most of the ~$100 rods on the market now are really good.
