If the water is still high, I would fish about 3 to 6 feet from where the bank normally is located. Fish it slow with plastics or baits like a rat-l-trap, or cranks with rattles in them. If it is spring there, I would think that the fish should be on beds or scouting the banks for potential beds. If they are then you would want to get the baits into their zone for reaction strikes, or them trying to get the bait to blow it out of their bed area. Drop shots, noisy baits, jigs with rattles, t-rigged worms or weightless senkos fished slowly should do the job. I would also use topwater presentations. Good Luck in your tourney.

Thanks. The water depth was 6 to 8 feet and it is the floating version of the swimbait. I was fishing it sort of like a slow walk the dog presentaion. I thought I was having a heart attack after the fish killed the bait from below. The blowup was incredible to say the least. X2 on the camera and toilet paper.

I caught my first dd lmb this past Sunday on a mattlures hardgill. It was 11.2 lbs according to my berkly scale. Then I proceeded to throw a 4year old temper tantrum because I left my camera at the house. But it was caught around 12:20pm. I then left and went to walmart to purchase a camera to keep in my tackle bag.

I recently got hold of some Carbotex line. It seems to be pretty strong and sensitive. How is the memory with Carbotex? Has anyone else here tried this line? I would like to hear what you think about it.

I just picked up a Quantum Code not long ago and it seems to be a good reel. It has a solid frame and is very smooth. It aslo gives you a flipping (should be called a pitching) switch that comes in handy. I still like Shimano reels better but I cannot make any negative comments about the Code so far. I feel that you would enjoy one if you got it.

Congrats on finding a club. If the club is managed well and has friendly members you will learn a lot. IMO, club members should be willing to share secrets and techniques with each other to both improve the average knowledge of the club members and to create a fairness when fishing club tournaments. Never expect all members to give up all of their secrets but many can be very helpful to others. Once you have had the chance to fish with many of the members, you will be surprised by the knowledge you have picked up just by talking with and watching what the others are doing. I wish you luck on your tourney and I wish you luck with your new club.

Thanks for the advice. I tried all of that stuff. There was a storm front that came through the night before so hardly anything worked. After hours of watching the spots bust the surface and the shad schooling everywhere, the magic bait turned out to be a red-fin lure. We caught a few on normal cranks but the red-fin pulled the most, and largest fish out. The average size bass pulled out was 12.5 to 13.5 inches in length. With a 14" limit, our boat came in second place with a whopping 1 fish at an incredible 1.13 lbs caught on a crank bait. The boat that came in first was the gentleman that used the red-fin (the whole day as a slow crank and not a jerk bait) and had 5 fish totaling around 13 lbs. The majority of the fish were caught along the sides near the entrances of creeks coming into Lake Lanier in the southern part of the lake. I am sorry to say that I do not know what color red-fin the angler was using but he did say it was about 5-6 inches in length.

I agree that Matt is a great guy. The way he stands behind his stuff is leagues above most anyone else that I have met. His quality and support is more than enough to have me going back to him for more baits in the future.
