I like 7ft. M power F action rod for most topwaters. If im throwing a heavy topwater like a super spook which is rare i'll just use one of my cranking rods. I like a high speed reel so i can take up the slack in the line fairly quickly. And heavy mono line 15 or 17lb. 8-)
I caught about a 10 pounder on a chrome Rat l trap, and one that was close to 20 on a brush hog. Both in the St. Lucie river. The bigger one dragged my jon boat down the river and into multiple dock pilelings. ;D
My personal advice on learning how to skip with a casting rod is use something heavy, sling it REAL hard and train your thumb. It takes alot of practice
I won't throw any brand names out there, but i prefer a 7ft M power fast action rod for topwater. The handle has to be fairly short so it dosent hit my hip, but i dont have much a problem with that because i have fairly long arms.

In my experience P-line Flouroclear=garbage. I would definitely go with Hybrid US for the spinning rig. Id say try CX or Hybrid for the casting if your stuck on a copolymer.
Fenwick HMG's can be found for that price and they are very light and very sensitive(For the price). There performance is very close to the Avids IMO. 8-)
I was recently playing in a glof tounament in Ft. Lauderdale and as im down on the fairway i look into one of the lakes. (im a fisherman before im a golfer) The water was crystal clear and there was bullseye snakehead cruising right along the shore. It was the first time i had seen one, because im from further up north flroida where there supposeably isnt any. He was probly 18 inches id say maybe a shade bigger and he had no fear of me just sat there as i checked him out.
For docks i use either 17lb cxx or 20 lb BPS flouro, no braid for docks it just dosen't have the abraision resistance. For timber or weeds, 65lb Stren Super braid
Just thought id let everybody know, i was at BPS in Lauderdale this weekend and they had Hybrid US. Its the first time id ever seen it at a BPS. Just thought id give u guys a heads up.
