  1. Whats up brother it's HAMMER !! 1989 east pass north end of sabine lake on a night time bowfishing trip I saw a 4lb carp in the lights drew back my bow and BLAM!! a 4lb bass at the end of my line, I couldn't believe it, that far into seriously brackish water. Good news is I pulled the arrow from his tail and nothing was seriously hurt but my pride !!
  2. You already know the answer ! think about what you said , you already know were there not. Now you just need to figure out how deep they are in the water column and what it's going to take to get them. Catt made a excellent suggestion "jigging spoon" you will hit them it's just gonna take a little work, but when you do , think about what just happened replay it in your mind , duplicate it then clean house. GOOD LUCK !!!
  3. If there has to be a 2oz difference for it to be a record does anyone know the logic behind this ruling. A certified scale is a certified scale anywhere in the world isn't it. If not enlighten me please !! How many tournaments have been won or lost by 1oz. " THINK ABOUT IT"
  4. Just looked at the Bucoo it looks cool. the ONLY thing i dont like is the foam. I personally like cork. Other than that its awsome. and the foam thing wouldnt stop me from buying one for good falcon quality and performance.
  5. I havent used the bucco but i am an original owner and love it. its one of my favorite rods.
  6. Well lets put it this way, I hate KVD Tour rods about as much as I hate KVD himself. I cant believe he would even put his initials on that garbage he calls a reel. All you need to do is read the reviews on anything quantum and you will have your answer.
  7. Hey guys I appreciate the info, I was using heavier line and the smallies could have very well been post spawn fish. I will make some changes and try to give you a report on my results. If anyone has any doubt about the size of these smallies in Lake Belton I would be more than happy to accomodate one of you veterans on a trip. THANKS HAMMER !!
  8. The wacky worm was originally conceived in NEW JERSEY, but I just wanted to shed a little light on the history of it's arrival in Texas. In 1978 a guide out of Fin and Feather marina on T-Bend by the name of Jimmy Callais took two fisherman from New York on a guided trip, both men were throwing a grape creme worm hooked in the mid section of the bait. At the time Jimmy was throwing a rattlle trap and a texas rigged worm with no success, about noon Jimmy ran out to Indian Mounds and decided to give it a go a try the so-called wacky worm. In an hour and a half they had over twenty five bass the first one over five pounds, Jimmy was hooked. Once he arrived at the marina he told another guide by the name of walt fields, who was famous for being drunk about as many days as he guided in a year whitch was about 300, and the rest is bass fishing history. So the history of the wacky was developed in the north and made famous in the south.
  9. I once heard someone say yesterday's history, tomorrow's a mystery but today's a blessing. THINK ABOUT IT
  10. This is for all you smallmouth fisherman out there. I just visited my brother in Belton Texas and went down to take a look at their lake, properly named " Lake Belton". I was walking the bank near the dam and noticed a lot of smallies along the rocks, I normaly wouldnt give them a second look but these bass were toads, I am talking 3 to 4 lbs , and a lot of them. I immediately went and bought a pole and went after them. These bass were in ultra clear water about 6 to 8 ft down, I threw bitsy bug jigs, small tube jigs, wacky worms and every other finess bait I thought they would hit with no luck. I tried to distance my self from them due to the clear water but could not get them to bite. What has me stumped is the fact that while I was trying to hit the smallies the largemouth were all over me. Why would the largemouth hit what I was throwing but not the smallmouth. I am on a mission but need some help from you smallmouth veterans !!
  11. Hey guys ! for anyone else interested in JJ's I have decided to do a thorough and accurate report on this product, I would appreciate it if everyone that tries JJ's would send me a PM and tell me all about their JJ's experience. Please be truthfull and accurate so I can use this info in the report I will be posting in a couple of weeks. I would like as many people as possible to participate. THANKS HAMMER23
  12. NO IMPACT !! but when carp start spawning and I am pretty sure that's what there doing it will definately want to make you break out the 9mm. The good news is it doesnt last long, the same thing happened to me on a smaller lake, they came up blasting water and laying eggs everywhere for about a week and a half then they were gone. They dont make beds like bass if you look where they are splashing you will see the eggs in the grass and on everything else there touching. Hang in there it wont last long.
  13. Good luck this weekend !!! If you would give me a report wether it be good or bad, JJ's has been all over the place lately and I have everything from toxic fumes and nausea to the best fishing trip people have ever had. I am just gathering a little data and would like a accurate report if you wouldn't mind. I appreciate it !! HAMMER
  14. Your not alone brother !! my child support is more than the national deficite. Buy what you can and hold it proudly !!!
  15. Just curious, if you reeled ten different spinnerbaits from ten different manufactures in the same style " say one colorado, one willowleaf " side by side in the water, how much different would one look from the others. Most spinnerbaits have parts all made by a select few manufactures, one makes the wires, one makes the blades, ect. Do some research and you will be supprised how similiar the all are.
  16. BIG GLENN !!! appreciate the info, keep it coming.
  17. HEY STIK !!! I have started gathering data on JJ's so if you would tell us all about it on your first trip, I would like to know how it goes good or bad. The more info about your trip the better. THANKS HAMMER !!!
  18. The perfect answer " set the hook like you are trying to break something"
  19. I dont always agree with Snooky but he makes a good point. If you buy fish from a market make sure the fish is cleaned in front of you, and as far as putting them on ice, I have had fish on "HEAVY " ice for several days and they kept very well. Chances are, if you think it has been to long you are probably right !
  20. In saltwater a hook could rust out in a few days but I wonder how long it would take in fresh water. I am sure as long as food will pass uninterupted it will be fine.
  21. We are about to see how informative this site is. I have never heard of Presque Isle Bay and am curious to see how much information you receive. Anyway I hope you have an excellent trip !!!!
  22. Just imagine if a bluegill grew to 6 or 7lbs , now that would be a fight !!!
  23. YOU NAILED IT !!!! As fast as you weighed in that monster they would congradulate you with the world record citation !!!!
  24. Whats up Rob !! sorry your having such a tough time but rivers can be tough to fish anywhere. I am not sure what your rivers are like there but I will tell you what I hit them on in Texas. On the sabine river, me and a couple good friends throw a white spinnerbait. I prefer a tandem blade in colorado and willowleaf with some type of trailer. We have a lot of luck throwing them anywhere you see slack water on the edge of a current. We will actually troll up current and pull the bait back down pulling it over or under stumps, logs, rocks or whatever structure we have. We do have a lot of luck throwing it anywhere water flows out of a smaller creek or bayou into the main river. We also have good success on what used to be called a cajun frog , of off the main river. We have a lot of swamp down here which provides us a ton of cypress trees and a lot of cover to hold fish. We have caught bass on about everything but the spinnerbait does really well for us so give it a try.
  25. I will put it to you this way, it's better to be safe than sorry so give it a yank !!!
